first thing that came to my head when i saw the fresh prince was "fuck will smith". not because i dont like him, i think hes a swell guy/actor. but because it just looks like he doesnt fit in the film. but margot robbie, forever my duchess.
I agree, except for the swell guy part. I don't like Will Smith at all. I don't like how he tries to worm his children into movies and I don't like how he said no to Tarantino (who the hell do you think you are?). I have also heard that he influences the way his characters are portrayed in movies. I guess he could make an okay Deadshot if he just does his Hancock thing but I wish it were someone else.

Harley on the other hand is perfect. Too bad they ruined her by removing the accent.

Joker is the greatest. He looks absolutely insane and actually creeps me out. What makes the Joker so great isn't his look (loving the bright green hair) but the way his face animates. It's perfect.

The same reason we can assume Superman won't be running any kids through with street signs.

A Joker/Harley film would basically amount to two hours of domestic abuse. A Harley solo film though, with guest appearances from Poison Ivy? That I could be into.

Three words: Gotham City Sirens

This is how I see it..

Harley Quinn = will not die. HQ is like the most popular female comic character of this generation and Margot Robbie have a long deal with WB/DC.
Enchantress = will not die. WB/DC will need her for Justice League Dark/Dark Universe especially that it's now a part of DCEU(yeah this is what DC universe is called).
Katana = Dead. no name actress and I don't see them using her in Bat-side related films in this universe.
Deadshot = Got will Smith magic shield. will not die.
Rick Flagg = Dead. in the comic he survives cuz is the leader but we got Will Smith now(also maybe why Tom Hardy rejected the rule)

Killer Croc = Dead. like Katana I don't see DC wanting to use him again in Batman related movies in this universe.
Captain Boomerang+El Diablo+Slipknot = All gonna die. they are potato-tier DC characters.

Katana looks so cosplay / anime convention level. Does she really have the Japanese flag as her mask?

Read the comic. that what she wear in the comic.

U wot m8?

Watch DJango Unchained again. Foxx is perfect in the role. Will Smith deciding not to do it was the right thing for the film and for him.

I feel like this is your first time looking into a 2016 DC film universe thread. We do not know where or how Batman fits into the movie but we expect it to be with regards to Harley's flashbacks/origin. Batman is being played by Ben Affleck, who plays the Batman in Batman vs Superman.

I don't know if it's my first time but by the look of things, I think I'll make it my last time. Some people like you took my questions well enough, but others seem on edge. Even I don't get this testy with newbies in the RGB thread.

This trailer got me stoked. I understand the Will Smith complaints but it doesn't really bother me. Robbie looks great as Harley and that last scene with Leto's Joker was icing on the cake.

On the subject of Suicide Squad, I was just rummaging around some comics I bought at a garage sale a few years ago. I didn't read comics but it was a pile of around 30 comics for $5 so I got it. I somehow never looked at them until now (or I forgot), but the first 7 issues of Suicide Squad are in the pile.

Might have to do some reading.

Hardy didn't reject the role. He was already in production of a movie whose reshoots got delayed well into the principal shooting of SS.
There is an interview where he talks about how bummed he was to miss out on the role.

Flagg is staying alive.

but that dude on the far right looks like him :/ am I stupid?
I mean, he may look like him, but he's not on the role call
And any of us know this how? At 2:14 he is seen walking behind a government-agent looking guy. He's in the film, based on a team of villains being recruited because they're "the worst". He is featured in a scene involving both Batman and Harley, a prominent character in the film. Again, how do you or anyone not related to the actual production know he won't be part of this team at some point? He could end up being the fucking star for all we know.

He's never been on any one incarnation on the team, and as many have said, comic movies aren't 1:1, but they most certainly do follow (at the very least) basic outlines of stories and tend to stick close to characters. Especially in a time where comic movies are attempting to be as faithful to the source material as reasonably able.

On top of that, Joker has not appeared in the line-up photo for the Squad, though when that picture was released it was widely known that Joker would be in the film.

So, while you're pushing this as a possibility (and hell, maybe you're right? Who knows?), there's no evidence to suggest yours is even remotely correct and a whole host of evidence pointing towards the thing that, you know, others have said.

Great post. I guess I can see a scene where Waller tries recruiting Joker all 'I can make anyone do anything' and Joker is all 'okay.' Then mission goes completely to shit because Joker's an asshole. Maybe a flashback?

EDIT - Or maybe gun firing suit guy is this universe's Bob, Joker's number one guy.

Will Smith sticks out like a sore thumb. His "save the world" and "suicide squad" lines need to be cut from the final film, they're so gimmicky.

Outside of that, this looks very interesting. I'm sick of the bright and colorful razzle dazzle of the MCU, so this will be a nice, weirdo departure.

Katana isn't just a Batman character. She's played an integral role in recent Green Arrow mythology, as well as being able to play a strong role in Justice League Dark due to Soul Taker. Not only that, if there's a Birds of Prey film, she is a strong candidate for that film. She's also been pushed heavily by DC as a whole (which has been pointed out before).

Captain Boomerang? Potato tier? You sure? Huh. Coulda sworn he's a major recurring SS member, as well as a major Flash rogue.

Deadshot wouldn't die regardless, since he's a major SS character to the point of essentially being the main character.

Rick Flagg is also the liason to the Squad. Not dying.

now I need the bolded. Get Catwoman in there too.

I dont see Croc dying either. Between Joker, Harley, Croc, Deadshot, the fact that Arkham exists, and some hints from leaked SS screenshots, we could finally get a live-action Batman with a recurring rogues gallery

While true, fuck Croc.

They only reason he shouldn't die is so the Squad can play a poker game where Croc tells a story about how he had Batman cornered in a quarry and threw a rock at him. Then it turns out Bats was disguised as Croc the whole time.

I mean, if Croc doesn't throw a single large rock the entire movie, then what's the point of him even being here?

Proof why King Shark is best.

I just watched this trailer ripped out of my mind and it just blew my mind.

I never read the comics so I don't know anything about the suicide squad, but this seems like such a cool movie idea. I've always wanted to see a movie about bad guys from their point of view.

The Joker at the end too... chills man...

El Diablo and Slipknot are dead for sure.

I'm betting on a "looks like they're dead, but ambiguous enough for a return" death for Enchantress and /or Croc. Enchantress largely because the film already stars a much more popular crazy girl and that looks like the way they're going with Enchantress too.

Looks great. Clearly early and I guess technically this isn't the "first trailer"? Rather just comic con footage. A bit concerned about how they handle the (seemingly) torture of Harley. I mean their relationship is one that is essentially domestic abuse.. Still that's treading dangerous water. Either way there is a lot of focus on Harley's arc here. We'll definitely see her become the character and then see her in the early years of Harley (Batman chase scene) then finally her current self separated from the Joker.. At least that's my speculation. Might be interesting to see where they take it.

I think we basically see 4-5 scenes on display prominently here as there is a lot more work to be done on the film.

The thing about Joker and Harley's relationship is that they're both villains, though. Not antiheroes. That's part of the problem with Joker lately, anyway - he's a "cool" bad guy that people write as if you're supposed to like him. Same with Harley.

But what if you *didn't* like the psychopathic clown and his homicidal girlfriend?

Harley looks fucking awesome and have no doubt she will use her voice and laugh. Leto is going to kill the Joker role, man he is creepy and awesome. The look seems to work, and I can't wait to see more. Man his laugh is awesome. Cannot wait for this and Batman v Superman.

Meh, different kinds of crazy. June/Enchantress is more like split personalities, Harley is just fun crazy. If anything I hope June plays really sympathetic and Enchantress is just plain evil.

She was designed in the 80s. It's one of the most 80s designs I've ever seen.

Also A+ dialogue in this trailer.

"I put them in a hole and threw away the hole."

"They're bad guys."

"Are you the devil?"

"Let's go save the world."

"We're some kinda... SUICIDE SQUAD."

Harley's been significantly less of a villain with her own series lately. Mostly just a girl pulling shenanigans. She's even teamed up with Power Girl!

They were doing really well with her in New 52 SS until near the end. Then New Suicide Squad got...fucked. It's bad. Don't read it.

Yeah, I mean they are classic and have always been.. Charming for lack of a better word. I don't root for them, but they are the favorites.

Not gonna have perfect writing, honestly don't expect that from any superhero movie really. I like the "Are you the devil" line. Maybe that's cause of Harley's delivery though.

Ohhh, I just ordered the first trade of it yesterday. No spoilers, but is it really that bad?

I really hope we get an Amanda Waller and Batfleck scene where she isn't intimidated by the Bat.

People are like really all about this huh?

I thought it looked kind of lame. I mean most of it looked fine enough, but I think Leto's Joker looks and sounds fucking stupid. Even his laugh was super underwhelming. The rest of it looks like ok but not exceptional.

Same here.
And lol at all the gushing over Harley, maybe it's just cause I came back from Amsterdam but she ain't nothing special.

Did I just see Batman on that sports car?

Yeah he's supposed to show up in the movie.

I'm just curious why would they need a band of villains in a world where they have superheroes... I thought this movie was them banding together to wreak havoc.

That was Slipknot

Amanda explains this at the beginning of the trailer. They are forced to undergo borderline "suicidal" missions for the government. If they attempt to escape or backstab they have bombs planted in them (I'm sure we'll see what happens when one does do this in the movie). Along with that if something goes wrong, well they're evil, psychotic murderers basically. Easy to just blame them.

because superhero don't work for the goverment or do their dirty work, with the suicide squad they (amanda waller) force them to do special black ops missions (in which the probably of succeding are extremely low) by threatening to blow their head off if they don't comply and if they do accomplish their missions they get reduced sentences.

Cuz Waller can't control Supes or WW, and there is the unethical nature of their missions which include wetwork.

He turned down Django because Django wasn't the one to
kill Calvin Candy.

That sounded like a lame excuse, racial politics no doubt played a big part.

I suspect the reason he got cold feet was because he was majorly unsure at how the film would go over with his fanbase. I'm sure we've all read about how Will Smith and his agent used to pick their movies. They used to like low risk, non controversial fare.

Also a lot of people were against DU before it came out due to how brutal the script was.

I expected some villains. Instead I got heroes - hopefully the movie portrays the squad a little more faithful. Will Smith - why... so bad.

Smith would have felt even more out of place than Foxx did.

The role felt like it was more suited for someone older and more seasoned. Denzel would have been good in the role, at least in my opinion.
