Metal Gear Solid V final box art (A Hideo Kojima Game/Kojima Productions removed)

But at the same time you get tweets like those where they even tag Kojima.

That probably was a rouge social media employee who sacrificed himself.

Oh my lord. I think you're putting way too much faith into pure coincidence. This game has been in development for 5 years, has tons upon tons of missions, something like him putting credits into every mission isn't some sort of prophetic inclusion. It's merely a design decision trying to emulate tv.

You're wrong.

I asked Kojima what he'd like to cut from his life, during an interview for Edge magazine in 2013, who spoke openly of his plans beyond games. "Tough question. Maybe Konami (laughs). I'm 50 this year, and while I love game development, it's a time in my life where I'd like to explore other things. I love games, but I don't necessarily like the management of the business aspect of working for a company. There are many things I'd like to do: for example, maybe take a year off and write a novel. I've also had offers to work on various movies and make movies, so those are things I'd like to explore at some point. If I could, I think that would be a great change in my life."

This is just speculation on my part, but I imagine that Konami's US employees aren't too happy with what's happening. The company's "new course" pretty much spells downsizing for the western subsidiaries.

Exactly, i feel bad for the people behind this twitter account.

By going digital Konami will actually get more of your money.

Doesn't matter, they're only going to see my one £40-50 purchase in the next x amount of years, rather than multiple purchases over that same period of time and it will be towards a Metal Gear Solid made by Kojima, and not much else if ever in the future.

Someone speculated months ago that this is probably for contractual reasons (ie Konami can't use Kojima's name to promote itself if he's not a company employee) rather than Konami just being "petty" which seems to be what a lot of people are thinking

This is disgraceful. Whatever internal politics are happening at Konami, the fact is this is probably the very last Metal Gear Solid game that Kojima will ever make. Even if Kojima wasn't fighting with Konami this was probably the last Kojima MGS game. To not have his name, and his production studio on the box appears extremely petty to me and a lot of people. Even if it's contractual reasons and not Konami being petty, it still doesn't feel right.

It just feels wrong.

I hope burning the box/altering the box and having pics/vids up becomes a thing. Great way to send Konami off to die.

It's a fucking box.

I've never understood the fuss, he's still credited for his work and everyone associates the game with his name. Sure it's petty of Konami but it's like being angry at water for being wet.

I'll buy it digitaly on Xbone and Steam so no problem for me ;)...what a stupid situation, i hope we'll find out the truth about this story some day

This is the last Konami game I'm going to buy for a long while. It's a shame, because Konami was making some of my favorite games back in the 80's and 90's. I guess it is just an empty brand now.

Kojima is certainly mainstream enough, but unfortunately only people like us will even notice. Joe Schmo in the street won't think twice about this. Initially I thought -and still do- this is so petty and Konami is shooting themselves in the foot by ruining the small goodwill it had with us gamers.

BUT, then I though about some friends who'll pick MGSV just because it's the next Metal Gear game & would also pick up the one after that without Kojima because it's Metal Gear. Konami has lost me and probably most gaffers on here, but to the mainstream everything is normal.

On a side note I don't want Kojima to be scooped up by Sony or MS. Let him be a free man, choosing which games he wants to develop. If he signs a one off deal then great; I doubt he's looking to be tied down to one publisher again.

Such an awful box art. Think I'll cancel my LE and maybe buy it used (the complication is thanks to Best Buy Gamer's Club Unlocked I may pay MORE for used), wish I could be sure to NOT get the hideous Day One Edition box art. I don't have a quality printer to print off any fan made Shinkawa boxart either.

The Day One Edition thing really needs to die. Use shitty ingame items as a preorder bonus if you must but leave the poor box alone, it didn't do anything to deserve this.

No i'm not.

Honestly what do you think is more likely, design design based on the above, probably one of the earliest design decisions made for the game or Kojima can predict five years into the future on how Konami will be petty with his name?

Yes you are because he doesn't say anything about credits before a mission.

I still stand to my theory that they put those credits in after the fallout.

And the interview and quote i posted above pretty much confirms that the relationship between Kojima and Konami wasn't all rainbow and sunshine.

I have huge respect for Japanese culture usually, and i appreciate a lot of there stereotypical norms, but my god there business practice's are straight up murderous.

like honestly i would hate to be one of the guys at the bottom of the food chain in a Japanese business, you just get straight up ganged up on and cut out like your didn't ever exists it's one thing we got right in this part of the world.

a little bit more respect for the man who yeah probably spent a lot of your money but helped make your name mean something,

This news really sucks. Also, how anyone could think combining the V and ! into one graphic makes sense is beyond me, it looks absolutely awful

Good work. Making your company less relevant is absolutely the way to go,
it'll be Ko-Nobody after this games out I'm pretty sure of it,

at least when it comes to the west,

Nah. Metal Gear Solid 6 will be massive. New blood, new ideas and coming of the massive marketing budget that V is getting they're turning MGS into a bigger and more relevant franchise this time. They'll make 6 and if that bombs Konami is probably done on consoles.

I think that's a ridiculous theory based on nothing really. Even though they didn't have a good relationship, it doesn't mean that Kojima thought "They'll probably wanna take my name off of the game cover, QUICK, put my name into every single mission, that'll show em! Totes has nothing to do with this game emulating tv shows or anything, which typically have the name of the director and others at the beginning and end credits when they are presented, no no this is to stick it Konami!" It's so ridiculous.

Sure i could live with that, hopefully your right, but i can't see them getting the right vision behind a metal gear game without KJP, i mean that's what makes a metal gear game a metal gear game,

if they can pull it off great, but there's just something i fear it would miss.
for example take a look at what happened to fable,

petere M goes, fable becomes a moba, f2p, 3rd person team game, lolwut?!?!

Frankly I'm still not entirely convinced this isn't all part of the usual over the top crazy marketing plans these games tend to have. Each release has been more and more crazy and the mgs5 reveal wasn't any different. This could just be the next level. At least I hope so :/

I'm happy to say this is the last Konami game I'll ever buy. Seriously, fuck them.

Unless they randomly make Suikoden 6, but who am I kidding?

I hope this game sells 20 million copies and Konami realizes how they've fucked up. What a bunch of goddamn assholes. It's not even just about money anymore. It's personal.

Of course it is, the whole situation is fucking ridiculous so i wouldn't even be surprised if it turns out to be true.

Maybe they'll get reassigned to promoting Konami's gyms or gambling machines. Which is probably worse. Lol

It's more melodramatic than the usual company fallout, but it's pretty par for the course so far when it comes to company rumblings. Firings, confusion, one side generally pretending that the other doesn't exist in the public eye, etc.

Honestly, why do people care about that crap? It's fucking trivial. It's not like Kojima Pro wasn't part of Konami anyway, regardless of their recent contract changes.

Unless there's something monumental in play here that I don't know about.

Cover looks great btw. I like me some close up covers.

Missing Kojima logos aside, what's up with the recent trend of plastering 'Day 1 Edition' on every game these days? It's ugly as hell and makes me want to wait to buy a game. I don't know who started that but it needs to stop.

"A Hideo Kojima Game" has been a thing on KCEJ/Kojima Productons games he directed for a long time.

There's no way that fans wouldn't notice if it's removed.

This will be the last game I'll ever purchase from Konami considering what happened to P.T. (i.e. Silent Hills) and Metal Gear. Ugh.

In a way your totally right its kinda just bushiness at the end of the day, but gaming isn't just a business it's art and peoples life's work for us to enjoy and play people have there Favourite actors, singers, and now we have our favourite game developers. i guess it comes from that ?

Honestly fuck Konami.

Buying this last game for Kojima and the end of the MG saga, but after that, never touching Konami again.
