Guardians of the Galaxy opened in August. This is coming out the same weekend, which is intentional.
That has nothing to do with whether or not WW fits in the actual movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy came out in August. If I recall, so did Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Both did just fine.

Looks good (very VERY good), however I am really gutted about Waller - I just want them to cast someone bigger (at least she's not stick thin like Arrow Waller).
Will be at the cinema day 1 for this, can't wait.
Totally agreed, there have been a billion government flunky characters over the years, but Waller has been such a fixture for 3 decades because she's so unique, and looks perfect for the part. Making her skinny really removes a lot of the impression of physical toughness that made her likeable/believable.

It might have very broad appeal.
One one hand it's comicbook property, so superhero fans will go see it. On the other hand the whole supervillains Dirty Dozen aproach will likely lure in plenty of people who just like action movies and aren't fans of superheroes.
Some of the negative reactions to the trailer I'm reading are bugging me. People have been bitching for a long time now that comic con trailers should be released officially after the event. Now that it has happened some people fail to comprehend that the movie still hasn't finished filming and has over a year of post-production left. If they're gonna keep releasing these Comic Con trailers in the future then they should start adding disclaimers like they do with early footage of games.
Yup...like how many like Wolverine in the X Men movies because he seems to be the only hero, good guy one that actually kills ppl. He has that edginess to him.
This movie has a chance to be huge. And I usually consider myself a movie fanatic...but this was totally under the radar for me. Probably because I havent been to a theater in many months.

Probably, but it might come close. GoTG wasn't a mindblowing success and R movies seem to be doing better and better these days. I think Suicide Squad has potential to reach 600 mln worldwide.
Considering something like Mad Max: Fury Road can reach near 375m then I can easily see Suicide Squad getting at least 500m if not considerably more if it's actually a good movie.
Don't think that was said anywhere. He simply pointed out that releasing a movie in August can be (and has been) very successful.
Gonna be rated X.

Unless you're some passionate Suicide Squad fan, I don't see why you're so against this movie...for seemingly no reason.
Plus this is pretty much Phase 1 of the DC cinematic universe.

Last time I compared this film to gotg I was labeled as "crazy" so be careful. Even though it's clear the only reason this movie was rushed into production is because it has vague similarities to that box office blockbuster.

The Joker laugh kinda sounds like William Dafoe's Green Goblin and the Joker talking kinda reminds me a little of Ledger Joker's voice. I like those parts a bit anyway but the visual design still just doesn't look like Joker. All I see is some kind of punk rockstar/marylin manson type. I commend them for trying a different look, but i don't think it works from first glance. Wondering if they are gonna stick with that look through all the DC universe films or if they might later change him to a more classical style, perhaps like the animated series or something, like a proper clown look?
I think Leto will knock it out of the park though.

From pretty much the start of this universe coming together, Suicide Squad was among the first movies rumored to be in serious development. People just didn't think it would actually happen since we were still in the 'WB/DC only does Batman and Superman' phase.

No doubt at all. I'm praying that at the same time, I'm hoping there'll be a big boost in love for more obscure pics like Waller and Enchantress. From just how much people seem to love Cara Delevingne, I can see people coming to the opening dressed as Harley and buying Joker shirts to watching it a few weeks later dressed as Enchantress and begging Hot Topic for Killer Croc plushies or something.

I hope Smith does well, but if they wanted an A-lister for Deadshot, they should have gone with Tom Cruise tbh. I've never seen Smith play a bad guy/anti-hero. I've seen him play various versions of himself. Tom Cruise does the same thing, but I've seen him play shitty people and I find him more charismatic than Will Smith.

Suicide Squad is the first full superhero movie featuring mostly villains.

Tom Cruise next to Killer Croc would possibly be the most hilarious thing in all of movie-going.
Also I'm pretty sure Cruise has an exclusive deal with Paramount.
Viola Davis (Waller) was the 3rd to last member of the squad trotted out after they played this clip at comic con. I think she's the most important character in this movie besides Deadshot, Harley and Joker.
Thinking Enchantress will be pretty important too. Slipknot is as good as dead within 30 minutes of the start.
