Transformers: Devastation (Platinum Games) - SDCC trailer

So here's a little mind blowing tidbit for you-

Frank Welker is known as the voice actor for Megatron, you just get told the name Frank Welker and instantly Megatron's voice from the 80s cartoon comes flooding in.

Well Frank Welker also voices this character

He does all kinds of animal sounds and voices. I was always shocked seeing his name in movie credits for various roles. He does the Hyena in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Scooby and a bunch of Gremlins.. Check out his IMDB page.

Its nuts how much he has done.

I remember listening to a movie commentary and he was referred to as the busiest man in Hollywood.

Uh, not really mindblowing, Frank Welker has been one of the busiest VA's in america for yonks.

Hell, he's been Fred Jones in Scooby Doo since DAY ONE, and that started in the sixties, and he was better then ever in that role when Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated ran a few years ago

Read More than Meets the Eye. From the beginning.

If you want to read the other books you can, but that's far and away the best TF book out there. It's so good I recommend it to comics-but-not-transformers fans.

Just read ANY TF comic written by James Roberts...well not really, here's the suggested reading order-
1- Last Stand of the Wreckers
1b- OPTIONAL: TF: Chaos Theory this contains 2 issues that James wrote which are fantastic and show that Optimus Prime was a badass even before he became a Prime, don't worry about the Rodimus story too much :P
2- More than Meets the eye Vol. 1-4
3- Transformers Dark Prelude (contains stories that take place during Vol. 1-4)
4- More than meets the eyes Vol. 5-6
5- Dark Cybertron
6- The rest of MTMTE

Only thing you need to know before reading Wreckers is that the Autbots and Decepticons fought on Earth, Autobots made a few human friends, one of them hitch hikes on Magnus' ship and has been with him for a few years/months. Finally the main events of the book take place after Megatron is presumed KIA.

I'm gunna take these suggestions and give it a shot myself.

So if we were looking at this from a very vague G1ish perspective, what sort of era does this take place, what time period of the war? Is this still season 1ish, or post season 2 but before season 3, or during s3?

I know the comic is it's own thing, I'm just wanting to get a feel for what sort of time period to expect. Get my head in the right place going in.

This game should probably very successful.

Knowing that, beyond DLC, for a sequel / follow-up PlatinumGames should not only have the other Decepticon and Autobot combiners but also, obviously:

I always knew him as the voice of Megatron and only that which is what surprised me when I was looking up Curious George for my niece and saw his name for the show :P

If this game has been in development since early 2014 with Saito at the head maybe there never was a MGR2, I guess.

MTMTE takes place after the Chaos Storyline, after which Cybertron is revived and able to sustain Cybertronian life, so all the autobots, decepticons and even Cybertronians who never sided go back to their home to start again.
This is seen as the Autobot/Decepticon war, which is stated to have lasted 4,000,000 years to have completely ended. Hot Rod prefers instead to take some autobots and whoever with him into Space to find their ancestors, The Knights of Cybertron, since they are no longer obliged to fight Decepticons or stop them, etc.

It uses the G1 designs but will make you look at characters like never before.

Good to know, thanks!

The last time I really was into TF was when Binaltechs were a thing and I really dug the lore/story bits that came with the toys. Kinda fell off after that. If these IDW comics are indeed something I should be catching up with, then by all means, I'll start getting their trades right alongside TMNT's!

Or maybe a game that at some point was MGR2 was reskinned and retooled into this. I mean either way so long as this game delivers, I'm fine with whatever its development history was

Honestly, even as a kid this stuff (and the size inconsistency) didn't bother me.

I actually thought it was more stupid when Shockwave turned into a huge floating Space Gun.
The inconsistant and constantly shifting scale never bothered my in the Cartoons or comics, but it did used to bug me when it came to the toys.

Having an aircraft carrier which is barely bigger than a Porsche let alone able to carry an aircraft took some serious imagination to work with.

So post-war, Megatron is dead. Thanks!

I always equate that song to GI Joe music since it appeared in GI Joe The Movie before they recycled it for g1 season 3. =P

Wow forgot about that but I think you're right they did use it. I could have sworn it was originally created for the Transformers Movie soundtrack first though, maybe GI Joe then grabbed it for the TV movie afterwards?

On a related note I remember the animation and production value on Transformers episodes going way down around that same time.

Yes and more yes. I kept these since my childhood and now my son has them to enjoy too. Amazing how long the old toys will last and remain in perfect working order.

Megatron has to turn into a gun. Size changing be damned. The IDW series hand waved it easily enough.

I'm going to be honest, I'd sacrifice a potential MGSR2 a thousand times over for a good G1 Transformers game.

Raiden is cool. But he aint as cool as this.

I can't help but be disappointed with the lack of pomp and circumstance in Devastator's introduction. Having him just clamber into frame and strike a quick pose gets him a pretty low reading on the Platinum Games First Boss Hype-o-meter. Ain't exactly Metal Gear Ray, y'know? Are we even going to mash a button to punch him ten thousand times at lightspeed and then do an ultra turbo hyper-suplex on him at the end?

All of these are IDW, right?
