To me, it's what has made him so terrifying in the trailer.

He is doing it with glee and joy.

And there's nothing scarier than someone who enjoys making people hurt

Oh yeah I know that, but it seems like, a face without any kind of malice whatsoever. It's just smiley happy.

Right? This is a Joker that you wouldn't want to piss off. He's legitimately creepy. That laugh is easily my favorite live-action Joker laugh. Hearing that while walking down a dark alley in Gotham would cause you some nightmares.

well I think for not being a trailer, it's very very well edited. The music, and the slow buildup it does when more crazy stuff starts happening, then ending with that joker line... it's a very well done first look.

plus it looks so different from the usual superhero stuff, it looks dirty and ragged. I don't know, looks like it resonated with people well because you don't get almost 30 millions views for a shit trailer, or first look or whatever you want to call it.

Yeah...I hate some people saying "ahhww it look so bad for a first trailer, what a shitty movie, bla bla bla" and don't even realize it's just a (long) teaser.
You don't even get any plot from it.

Hell, this is all I need. I don't even want to watch any more trailers. I'm in, baby.

This is how trailers should be. I don't need to know 80% of the movie's plot other than climax before I even get to the theater.

Yeah, this is the first Joker that seemsto actually revel in the more sadistic shit.

What? That's Joker's whole shtick. All of the good Jokers have been that way.

This new film Batman, who brands criminals with the bat symbol, must have been the one who knocked Joker's teeth out.

I'm down for a brutal Batman, but I like the idea that Joker's pissing everybody off, that he's gotten into a lot of fights with different people throughout his career.

This movie man. I'm extremely hyped.

Leto. Margot. Jai.

My body is ready.

I just noticed, we never had a bad Joker in the live action movies.

Isn't it awesome? What's even better is each one of them brought their own spin to the character. We still need to see Leto's Joker in full, but considering what we've seen, it's safe to assume he'll be nothing like Ledger.

I wonder if it's because of the figures they picked for each iteration. 89 Jack Nicholson was legendary and the overt campiness obviously didn't fit with Nolan's world. Ledger's performance and death elevated his Joker to almost mythical standards, so any attempt to follow him up directly would never live up to it, so they went Sid and Nancy on us.

From the moment WB brought in Ayer to helm Suicide Squad, I think that gave people a pretty clear idea with what they were going to do with the film. If you've seen End of Watch or Fury (I recommend both), you know that Ayer's films have a very particular kind of look and feel to them. He specializes in dirty, often-times disturbingly realistic imagery.

Whether or not those rumors suggesting that the DCCU would be more director-friendly than Disney/Marvel are true at all, Ayer's style is showing in spades with this trailer.
Can anyone expand on the bolded segment?

Can anyone expand on the bolded segment?

It is widely known fact that Kevin Feige of (Marvel/Disney) keeps directors of MCU film on a tight leash, not allowing them to express their indivdual style and in particular, script content. This was evidenced by Edgar Wright's removal/resignation from Ant-Man after he failed to acceded to Feige's requests/script amendments. The criticism is that Marvel is producing cookie-cutter superhero films mainly based around macguffins thus prompting the following parody:

The rest should be self-explanatory.

Don't watch any trailer for 25+ years ago, then. They used to tell you the whole movie, now it's more or less a sequence of quick cuts with some dialogue or Inception horns over it.

Lies
I'm rather anal about storylines.

And thanks for the info guys. It totally makes sense why Marvel movies for the most part are the way they are. I really hope DC gives them a ton of freedom, we might see some unique movies and less of that Green Latern mess...

In a day or two SS will surpass BvS in views, nevermind the 10 million+ it had racked on Potato-visioN. The Joker gonna put asses on dem theater seats, man.

Shameless self-promotion, but when Guardians/X-Men trailers dropped last year actually thought was a cool idea to see how comic book trailers/teasers evolved over time

I don't miss the early 2000s with their terrible music

I wish it was like that too. But look what happened to Edge of Tomorrow. None of the trailers before the films release told us what the plot, or big twist was to that film. It wasn't until reviews came out that general audiences found out, and after they found out there was intrigue in the film for the first time.

So while there is a nice sense of enjoyment for the filmmaker that comes with the surprising their audience. There is also the chance that you'll hurt your box office by alienating customers.

It's more fair to compare the first BvS trailer to the SS one.
People tend to watch the first teaser/trailer and not watch anymore until the release of the movie.

Or at least, that's what I've always assumed.

Thing is, there's a difference between spoiling the plot and leaving audiences confused. That's what the Suicide Squad teaser / trailer does perfectly. It opens with the basic concept of the film "Got some bad guys we can use for black ops with ultimately deniability lol" whilst also tying it into the greater DCCU by name dropping Superman. It then just gives us pretty interesting footage with little dialogue or exposition. We know exactly what the film is about, but we have no idea what the actual plot is. What are they going to be doing on their mission? Who is the bad guy and what are they doing? We have no idea, but we know what kind of film it will be.

it's an objectively better teaser trailer imo. the music and shots are great. plus i bet a lot of those views are people taking another look at the joker/his voice again.
