Metal Gear Solid V E3 2015 Trailer

Straightend out one of the images I didn't recognise

Yeah it's scrublord Chico.

Flipped his hat to the other side to show in how edgy he is. Also, how he's basically personally responsible for Big Boss' coma, Miller's abduction and torture, the deaths of hundreds of soldiers and the destruction of Mother Base.

I HATE YOU CHICO. First thing I'm gonna do when I get TPP is waterboard him.

OK guys. In anticipation for TPP, I'll need to read up on the whole backstory.

I played MGS1 & 2 when they came out but paid little attention to the actual scenario. So little in fact that I played MGS3 without realizing that the main character was not the same as in the previous instalments (I know).

Didn't finish MGS3 for extraneous reasons (it was a great game). Didn't play neigher MGS4, nor Peace Walker nor Ground Zeroes.

Where could I find a well made recap? Wikipedia is a rabbit hole and I'm getting lost in the whole thing.

or the metal gear wiki.

This was confirmed at Tokyo Game Show 2014. There's even a 25-minute demo showcasing this Buddy!

Really?!

So there are more buddies than the 4 which have been bandied about a lot?

- DD (shown)
- DH (shown)
- DM (shown)
- Quiet (shown)
- Chico (not shown)
- ???
- Profit (known)

Edit: Anyone reckon co-op could still sneak in here?

Oh boy, thanks for pointing this out! There were a few analyses that stated the obvious or just repeated theories from yesteryear. I bet this will be good, since it seems he took his time on it!

It's very good so far, you can tell he put a lot of work into this, Yong finds lot's of little details that i've never heard or seen anyone talk about before, very fun to watch.

So quick question. Has anyone brought up the Man on Fire character being Volgen from MGS3? I just pieced it together after looking at the images of the action figure.

You can see how his costume resembles Volgen's and the hand attachments on the bottom right have him holding the bullets like Volgen did.

Yeah it was talked of ever since the first trailer.

edit: snaku

Nice job!

Now have people debated about the possibility that he is real or a PTSD image. I have a friend who is convinced that the "Phantom" in Phantom Pain is gonna mean Snake will be fighting memories or PTSD hallucinations. Honestly I hope this isn't true. I want Volgen to come back for real and for the Bosses to mean something. Not just Snake fighting his inner demons.

But he's already a demon...

:(

With the inclusion of Psyco Mantis, I'm not betting on reality with much of what we have seen.

Yeah, one of the first things people noticed from the Moby Dick Studios trailer.

Just because he's a ghost, doesn't mean he isn't real... 2spooky4me

Seriously though its still in the canon that ghosts legit exist in MGS. The Sorrow, Volcan Raven I think, hell even Liquid's possession of Ocelot through his arm is still canon, just that it ends after Ocelot gets a cybernetic replacement and decides to pretend he's still possessed. He's the son of the Sorrow after all, so he has a direct psychic affinity.

I wonder if Ocelot will play any role in helping Boss with his hallucinations. Maybe only Ocelot could help Big Boss escape from the Cyprus hospital because he's one of the only people who can see XOF's phantoms, maybe the reason BB gets attached to Quiet is because she sees them too.

XOF is seemingly composed of a unit of people who Skullface convinces to "not die, and instead live only for revenge" according to the secret tape in Ground Zeroes, so I'm expecting lots of supernatural madness. And I cannot wait. And yeah, Fire Volgin is probably meany to be Volgin's actual ghost in my opinion.

Edit:
Holy cow, I just noticed Yong's video is almost two hours! Guess he went all out since it may be the last chance to speculate on a Kojima MGS again! Even if there is another trailer, I doubt it'll be anything but another Konami ad basically, like the second trailer they showed at E3. Kojima teased a new trailer at the beginning of the year, so he probably had it done before the whole Konami debacle, so they probably still used it because "why not?", the only change was probably the wordless Kojima Productions Logo.

HOLY SHIT at the Lord of the Flies theory, kudos to Yong for finding this :O

Kojima you're such a mastermind, WOW!

Haven't watched a trailer for than this one. Fuck, it's so good! That music by New Order is haunting as anything I've heard.

Kojimaaaaaaaaaaa!

I've seen all the theories and analysises (sic), and I now believe we play as Gray Fox. Ground Zeroes can reference Cypher and Null (Frank Jaegers' name is ops). I think that is Decoy Octopus, not David, and this is a prequel to Mgs1 like Mgs4 was a sequel to mgs2... And I no longer think that's Volgin, I believe it's Python. The powers match up (the overheating).

Regardless, Metal Gear is one of the few franchises where fans get together to speak on the bat shit lore. I love it.

So here's my Metal Gear history.

I played 4 first -- read up on the compendium released for PS3 before hand.

Since then I've only played GZ -- and my other knowledge of Metal Gear comes from playthroughs of the other games, like Metal Gear Scanlon 2 and 3.

I know Peace Walker is the game set before this -- but is it essential? What should I play t catch up on?

GZ basically follows directly from Peace Walker. Necessary stuff.

Can't wait to watch this trailer and the analysis after playing through the story.. don't want to spoil the story and I love to see how much yong gets right with his theories

It's funny. The more I watch this trailer at home, the more my girlfriend (who's never played MGS and isn't a gamer) keeps coming up with her own theories about what's going to happen.

Even she's been sucked into the story of Big Boss's downfall.

The lord of the flies connection/allusion is seriously very cool. One of my favourite books of all time and kojima referencing it within the context of his world.

YongYea's E3 2015 trailers analysis is up, i'm 9 minutes in and it's already better than all the other stuff out there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu0E9AkAnNE

Just started listening to this. The part where YongYea is talking about the cassette tape and it's mean could also be interpreted as BB and not Skull Face. Which I found interesting. I also like how it is placed in front of a mirror and YongYea is talking about the mirror image of XOF and FOX.

Chico = Decoy Octopus = Eli 2.

The metal cylinders on the ST-84 could be variations/derivatives of the mammal pods.
Also I didn't notice the skull painted on the ST-84 in the concept picture before. That looks cool, hope I can paint my own design on my Metal Gear.

I think "The Man Who Sold the World" is actually referring to Big Boss. To the world he was a great hero, and he sold the world on that. On the inside he was angry and dissatisfied with how The Boss was done by the US Government. I think he's angry at the world that created that situation. So we have the creation of the MSF, then the Diamond Dogs and finally Outer Heaven.

Skullface becomes a phantom inside Big Boss. Possibly a dissociative presence inside Big Boss' traumatized brain or representative of Big Boss' conscience or possibly dark side. We know that Big Boss probably slowly recovers his memories during the game, and I feel like he must have killed Skullface in a very disturbing way which is why he is haunted by his "phantom". Not really sure who the second phantom is, and I think it'll be less figurative and be someone like Zero. Someone in the shadows.

Also, a note about Skullface's mask. We know it's like the Lone Rangers', but it also might allude to The Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom was disfigured too and came across as someone not knowing the love of a home, family or woman.

If you mean the cylinders on the outside of the legs it's probably a weapon system

I reckon you may be disappointed.
