Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Seth was shit because his overall design was shit.

True, but I also didn't like that he provided no overall story importance as a villain other than filler.

Once you introduce the big bad, the little bad usually ceases to be a relevant antagonist as you know he wasn't pulling the strings. Knowing this ahead of time makes it even worse. I think of the Dark Knight Rises and Bane. Bane was an amazing and imposing villain until you found out that Talia was pulling the strings the whole time. It completely invalidated Bane as he was now just a lesser force (even worse in that he became a mere henchman).

I really hope that Gill isn't the boss again. He had all of the cheap AI input-reading BS as Bison and Seth had, but with the infuriating Ressurrection super as well which basically meant that fighting him on higher difficulties was a game of chance that could only be won if he got bored and decided to pop Seraphic Wing or Meteor Storm.

If the leaked list holds true, I'd reckon that the Arcade progression will be similar to SFIV:

X number of matches -> fight vs. rival or Laura/Urien (if they decide to make one of them a sub-boss akin to Balrog or Vega) -> new boss

Above all I just want Mika to be good. I have a blast playing her in SFA3 but her matchups against most of the cast (especially Zangief) are just sooooooo so bad.

As if we needed more proof it seems to confirm that Nash was indeed brought back by the Illuminati, and interesting point, it seems he is not brainwashed and is willingly working with them.
It would also support the rumours that the game is dealing with the fall of Dictator and takes place before SF3.

His personality is that cool. Also given the choice I'd take an ally who is obsessed with revenge against my enemy than a brainwashed one.

I'd personally prefer Karin as the reveal because the announced characters so far, if we include Maori-kun, would be 6 men and 2 women. Karin as the 9th reveal would be a bit more balanced, plus she was the one all the top players mentioned when asked who they really wanted in :P

As someone mentioned in the thread earlier they could even tease her by just having a black screen or silhouette with her iconic haughty laugh playing :3

Yeah it would be nice to have her confirmed, she's my most wanted so I'd be nice to have the confirmation. She ranked first in Japan though so I'd think it'd be likely she'd be revealed at a Japanese event. Regardless I think it's more important that the roster is good than the way they are revealed.

I like that Nash isn't brainwashed. Makes it a lot more interesting. It's going to be really cool seeing both Shadaloo and the Illuminati play a role in the so-called improved story mode.

I have a question about the lore. If Urien is with what I assume to be Gill's secretary, then does that imply that he took over the organization? Wouldn't that make it take place after SF3? Maybe I'm speculating too much into the secretary part.

Yeah at first I was thinking he was revived as Bison's henchmen but this is much better. Still not digging his new look but I'll take what I can get.

Also if this took place post 3S and Urien beat Gill, Gill wouldn't be around, he clearly murdered Gill in his ending.

Possibly. Interestingly, the only two female characters revealed so far have always been unveiled as part of a two-person reveal and always with a male character, but twice isn't really much of a pattern to go off of admittedly :3
Considering they unveiled Birdie and Cammy together and the only thing connecting the two is that they're both UK fighters I'm not sure how fussed they are about pairing up reveals based on relevance to each other :o

I kind of liked that though, the way the reveal worked at l could have done without Birdie and Cammy (Especially Cammy). They show the stage and the two associated characters. It's as close as we'll get to character stages with the way this game is designed.

I agree, I would love the story to take place after 3S. If the finished game does indeed take place before 3S then I assume Capcom just wants to retcon the SF3 storyline entirely.

I guess SF4 retconning Bison's death pushes Capcom to explain the relative powerscale of the Illuminati vs Shadowloo and Bison. The only weird thing about setting this before SF3 is that the only boss options can be Urien or Gill, and we've already had three games with them. Gill is also not a very well designed boss imo. He may be extremely powerful, but he's not intimidating nor imposing in appearance.

Did SF4 really retcon Bison's death? Dude seems like he's always dying and getting new bodies.

Well both Gouken and Bison were killed by Akuma afaik originally, which the later lead to SF3 having new villians.

SF4 retconned both Bison and Gouken's death. Bison had a ANOTHER spare body and Gouken somehow emptied his soul like Gen to survive Akuma's attack.

I didn't realize they actually gave that good of an explanation for Gouken's retcon, I just thought they left it as Ryu and Ken have zero medical knowledge and don't know how to check a pulse.

Bison was already established as going from body to body so I never saw his appearance in 4 as a retcon.

I'm not sure but did Ken Bogard didn't really assign newcomers to any regions? Mainly I have a gut feeling that New Zealander's name would be Rashid.

I'm not sure if anyone is aware that Ken Bogard didn't really assign specific regions to the characters.. I have a gut feeling that New Zealander's name would be Rashid.
He's more likely to be Xen than Rachid. Rashid(Rachid in French) is an Arabic name, which is why people are associating it with Africa(North Africa). Ken Bogard only named three names/regions but said there would be 4 new characters, which is why some are assuming this is the unnamed 4th new character.

Someone mentioned in one of these threads that "Rachid" (the spelling Bogard gave) was specific to Arabic people in North Africa.

I'm hoping for mah man, Cody, to make it in at some point.

Probably not at launch though, that's for sure. :(

I'm with you, I've never really used Cody until SSF4, but I took a liking to him and was experimenting with adding him to the characters I was interested in playing.

Rachid is a common arabian first name, especially from north Africa (Morocco, Tunisia etc). Not from New Zealand at all.

Alright, my bad! I'm very excited for newcomers to see what their personalities and movesets would be like.

Thanks!

Okease..please..Sakura, Karin, Mika, i don't need anything other than this. Plus, this series could use more female representation, there are more males in the roster than females at this point for SF5

Well, we only have seven characters announced so far, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a 50/50 split gender wise. Unless we get a sudden influx of a ton of new female characters, the series will most likely always have more male fighters on the roster due to the current range of eligible past characters.

Yeah I think around 1 female for every 2 males is a realistic expectation, but maybe they'll get closer to half on the starting roster. Full roster will almost definitely be male heavy due to the series history though.

What are the chances El Fuerte makes it in this game?

He placed about 15 places from last on the poll and seems to be largely hated by players, I would expect his chances to be low.

I'd say quite low, at least for the foreseeable future.

Any SFIV character other than Juri, Abel, C. Viper, and possibly Gouken, are most likely quite far down on the priority list, and even the latter two are probably not gonna make it in soon either IMO.

I don't expect it to be a 50/50 split, but they definitely need for female characters since the roster is currently sitting at 6/2 (including that new teased character) in terms of male/female characters.

I don't disagree. I imagine it'll probably be a around a 35/65 split once all is said and done.

Street Fighter generally only introduces 1-2 new female characters per new installment/revision, (with the only exceptions being Alpha 3 [4 new female characters] and 2nd Impact [0 new ladies]) and I imagine it'll be the same this time too. And as I mentioned, given the back roster, it's unlikely that enough veteran male characters will be forgone and enough veteran female characters added to really change that, especially as the roster expands.

Considering that his entire running mechanic is borrowed from Mika's super and in Omega El Fuerte got a version of flying peach (flying nachos), there's a strong possibility that might actually be the case :o
Exactly. I guess that she'll be in "run-mode" only during her V-trigger which will make the character a lot more bearable than Fuerte.

Never cared for R. Mika, but if she really take El's spot, then she'd be at the top of my characters wish list. :D

Cool idea, though they could easily make it her super or even been stupidly evil and make it her v-skill XD
No idea what her v-skill would be though, I just hope it's one of the more interesting ones as opposed to Cammy's spinning knuckle ¬.¬

I hate R. Mika, jut I'd rather have her in the game than El futete.

More votes for Mika regardless of reason is fine by me :P

Hope so.

They need to bring Ingrid back. She needs more time in the spotlight.
I wouldn't say no, but I don't think her moveset is really all that noteworthy sadly and this is coming from someone who actually really likes her design: how can I not love someone with a 'haters gonna hate' retreating animation? XD

so I've narrowed it down to 3 characters I want per series. how likely any of these are is anyone's guess.

SF2:

Vega, Honda, Sagat

SFA:

Adon, Sodom, Cody

SF3

Oro, Necro, Q

SF4

Juri, El Fuerte, Abel

My expectations will be pretty easy to meet so i'd be surprised if they didn't :P
I just expect them to reveal maori-kun and explain him. Anything beyond that is exceeding XD

What timezone is that 2pm? I'll make us up a timer :3
or if someone else wants to, you can use this: http://secondapps.com/countdown/

Well I'm expecting 2 characters, and with a statement like that he better deliver.

El fuerte ain't making it in. Don't worry

Everyone is going to continue to fear that he will make the roster/be added later as DLC until the game is discontinued and SF6 launches. I am just hoping R. Mika can protect us from him and honestly I think she could take him without too much problem.
