Suicide Squad Official Trailer Drop

I don't think Youtube trailer views necessarily equal success box office wise though.

Ultimately though, they need to get BvS right to set this universe in motion. I'm still a bit of a skeptic regarding the quality of these two movies despite being hyped for them.
Suicide Squad has "it." A year away, it feels like it's a hit already.

Mixed cast of established stars and growing ones. Cara's getting a million views a day just beatboxing for a minute.

I think Suicide Squad will be a hit regardless of Batman and Superman. Its the right sort of thing in the slightly over satirised Marvel (or Marvel inspired) do goody heroes.

For all the complaints at DC for taking itself so seriously Marvel are just as guilty with the arc nonsense and hero aspects; (only X Men has got it right imo - doesn't put too much importance on the hero vision) so having the 'bad' guys take over is a breath of fresh air - we are already seeing the hype filtering through from the number of views this trailer has had.

I think next year will be a big year for DC and its not as if Batman or Superman are unpopular properties anyway. Suicide Squad could be the bigger film though as I think audiences will respond well to a change.

Harley will do well as I think everyone has always felt she would; she's the perfect villain to root for.

With all due respect to SS and putting aside how excited I am for it, BvS will likely slaughter it at the BO. This is Superman and Batman on the big screen for the first time ever. Throw in Wonder Woman and you have an event film. As long as it isn't complete shit it will do huge numbers.

Suicide Squad also has The Joker though. Which is big in itself. Think it'll give it a run for its money but word of mouth for both is important.

True. Also depends on the rating. I personally am pulling for a R but in all likelihood we're looking at PG13.

No need to pit the films against each other, it's all going in the same pot.

Having said that, BvS is trying to break records. Just sniffing a billion with Suicide Squad would be insane.

Is there a reason for Leto's pictures being pasted side by side like some sort of comparison? Or it's just because Joker and Harley? Honest question.

Nice pictures by the way.

ha idk it was posted around tumblr, seemingly because Joker/Harley for that one -- And as if he gifted the fanny packs to them, which idk if true but it wouldn't surprise me.

Suicide Squad Trailer has surpassed the BvS Trailer, niiiceee.

It's got a 1M view lead at this point.

Oh right! The fanny packs... I read "funny pics" and didn't notice them on the pictures, I'm blind. lol

Err? Villains fighting other villains is no reason to make the movie rated R?

giphy.gif

I don't think you know what movie ratings actually mean. You should google them. Do you think pg-13 means they will be fighting with pillows? There is a lot you can get away with pg-13. None of the DC or Marvel films so far was R rated. The best R rated film of the last decade , Mad Max, could barely clear 150 million in the box office after weeks. So yea, villains fighting other villains is no reason to make the movie R.

I forget how well did 300 do again? (I'm aware it was a number of years ago).

300 did 456 million worldwide on a budget of 65 million.
Mad Max was 365 million on a 150 million budget.

However, 300 was also an easier sell to the vast majority of people.

Also, you have to remember Mad Max opened against Pitch Perfect 2 and was released incredibly close to Age of Ultron.

Mad Mad had a production cost of 150 million and has, to date, made more than 366 million. Maybe that's not enough to get studio heads buying 2 new chrome-plated rocket packs, but it's still a success. It hasn't even sales and considering the word of mouth on it, the thing is going to big numbers there too. If anything Mad Max proves that R-rated movies don't mean box office poison.

But it's all academic. There is no way in hell DC will allow this to be a R rated flick. You have a better chance of Margot showing up at your house in full Harley regale asking you out for a night of Netflix and pizza.

You guys also need to remember the goal of the superhero movie is to sell merchandise/toys/licenses. Box office takes are pocket change compared to how much these companies make from licensing.

You know 365 million on a 150 mil budget does not mean they doubled their investment right? Just making sure. That means Mad Max barely broke even.

Watchmen was rated R. So its not like DC isn't capable of doing it.

Assault on Arkham animated movie had a lot more mature themes than the usual animated film as well.

Also..All of David Ayer's work in the past has been R rated iirc. So I think SS has a very good shot at being R.

An R rated movie with Harley and Joker is just too rare of an opportunity. I am hoping WB eats the cost or wtvr and does it. It would be great :D

Point to where I said it doubled their investment.

Considering these characters will have crossovers in the DCU (Batman is already in SS) I wouldn't count on it.

The moment they put Batman in this is the moment any slight chance of it being rated R died.

Depends on his screen time and intended promotion level.
If Batman was put in the movie just to get butts in seats, yeah I agree.
If Batman is hardly in the movie and is just there to fill the world in, could go either way.

If they did go for hard R, they just can't advertise Batman all that much. Scene in the trailer is about as far as he should be promoted.

Really if there is no sex or gore then an R rating isn't really needed. They can get away with a lot of violence and even things of a sexual nature with a PG-13 rating. The only thing that would be hurt by that rating would be the amount of foul language in the film and honestly I don't need F bombs, etc dropped every few seconds. So if that's what goes then fine. I actually got pretty annoyed with the Deadpool trailer because of this. That trailer was a good example of trying to hard and trying to justify the rating after the fact instead of the film being giving the R rating on it's own merits. I really don't like movies or even shows like that. That trailer just hammered home that film is not at all being aimed at me and I can skip it.

Are you ok? I just want to make sure you don't slip and fall from that high horse of yours, you might really take some damage. They won't have to hold back and cut away from some of the fucked up scenes that will happen in a movie about bad guys doing some fucked up things. You think Harley's torture scene would be same whether it's PG13 or R? The idea that you don't see any reason to ramp it up must mean you have absolutely 0 imagination.

Now whether you prefer it or not is another point. Obviously, it will make more money if it's PG13, which it will likely be. Now keep riding that high horse.

Eh, I don't trust hollywood accounting. Every movie making 100% of their alleged budget is a success unless told the contrary, those people don't waste their money.

There is also a marketing budget this is often not reported in those production budgets. Studios do not get the same cut from overseas as they do on domestic grosses.

I'm sure Disney is not happy about Tomorrowland just clawing past 200M or John Carter just getting past 280M. There is no way they made money on those films.

If it makes 300m and the cost was 150m excluding marketing, wouldn't they make money from other avenues (toys, Blu rays, dvds, etc)?
