I watched Nightcrawler again, Leto is a mighty fine choice for the Joker but Gyllenhaal would've been a nice pick too!

I really like Gyllenhaal. He is one of my favorite actors. It would be interesting to see him in either DCCU or MCU, but of course, in a major role.

Leto is a great pick for sure, but I agree- Gyllenhaal would have been awesome if it were something he had been offered or wanted. He was damn legit in Nightcrawler. Fantastic film.

The Nightcrawler should be the Joker's personal camera man. Guy's completely insane.
Amazing movie.

Since he doesn't want to be tied down to a whole series of films, he would be perfect for a one-off villain role in some kind of DCEU film. Him and Hardy. Would be fantastic.

Gyllenhaal would do an amazing Two-Face as well.

Hell, dude could probably play any on the Batman rogue list and knock everyone's socks off.

For those stat-trackers at home

The initial Suicide Squad trailer rocketed to the top of the week’s rankings with an impressive 50.9 million views in its first week, according to streaming media monitoring firm Zefr.

Those numbers compare favorably to Avengers: Age of Ultron (50.6 million in the first week) and Jurassic World (53.9 million), but still trails Stars Wars: Episode VII (58.2 million).

For the week

Shocked at those BvS views, it should be more. Good for SS though.

Also why were there reports going around saying Episode 7 had 88 million views in 24 hours when this says it only had 58.2 in a week?

I am amazed Suicide Squad has got the number of views it did and is surpassing BVS. Not that I think that will be the case in the Box Office. Suicide Squad will be lucky to cross 500 million.

...Okay, this is a weird case where I'm conflicted on a trailer.

I like everything I saw of the actual movie.

But I hate the pretentious musical choice. It doesn't work at all. It's not just the softness, it's also how the music swells up "inspirationally" at certain points and never communicates the grittiness of the visuals. And the dissonance could work, but not with all the action beats that happen in the trailer.

So it's not a bad trailer because it makes me want to see the movie, but it's an annoying one with some really jarring decisions.

So what is the deal here?
I am happy that Suicide Squad is gonna be pretty popular when it comes out, even though I was skeptical of it working as a movie.
Is it the Joker that is drawing people in?
Or/and that it's a different type of team-up movie?

Don't over think it, everyone's all in for Rope Guy.

You're definitely in the minority there. The song choice is smart in that it's catchy, lyrically in line with the Joker and Harley Quinn, and is a haunting version of a song much like Suicide Squad is a twisted take on the genre. The way it builds up as the action does really works and amounts to a very strong first impression, as evidenced by all the views.

I feel like the trailer would have half as many views if it didn't have Joker in it. Every time I've seen this movie mentioned by friends or on TV, it's 90% about Leto as as Joker. And people are already gobbling it up online. I'm betting a lot of people check this out just to get a glimpse of Mr. J.

I wonder how WB is going to market that.

The actual BeeGees version is better, and funnier, and creepier.

Just in case people missed it at the top of the page.

It's not going to be rated R.

Every 5 or so pages it comes up.

He's right. It's not.

Glorified cameo or no it will still be a film that has Batman in it. If Batman V Superman hits at the box office the fact another film featuring Batman will be releasing less than six months later could give it significant momentum with cinema audiences.

with Batman Joker and Harley plastered over everything.

Hopefully Ayer can deliver, people won't care that Batman is in the movie for like 10 minutes if the film is good.

If Batman v Superman makes 1 billion or 900 millions of dollars in the box office, I can see Suicide Squad make 700 millions in the box office at least, if it's a good movie. It has Joker, a scene (at least) with Batman, Harley Quin, Will Smith and the sucess of Batman v Superman, if it turns out to be a sucess of e.g. 900 millions of dollars in the box office.

Margot Robbie's HQ will actually be the thing people are talking about now and what they will talk about after the movie gets released. Poor Leto, he's actually not going to make the impact he wanted here.

Sounds like a dream cooked up by a Margot Robbie fan to me. There's a reason every trailer thumbnail has the 5+ seconds of Leto's appearance. It might as well be called "Joker: The Movie" at this stage.

I think she will shine the most since she will have more panel time, but there is no way Leto is not going to come out of this looking like a fucking stud. An amazing actor like him getting Mr J's role is going to mean only greatness. It's very, very likely he plays a huge role in the 2019 Batman film.
That's what Tom Hardy thought.
Err what? Hardy pulled out since he was filming another movie that was pushed back. He complained recently regretting that he couldn't be part of it.
