Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

I think we just have to wait and see. When is the next major?
Socal Regional main event depending on when that is.

That is actually the major that would really be telling where Marvel 3 is heading in the future because Socal was looking strong going into EVO with Justin, Clock, ChrisG and Cloud but no Socal player made top 8. Going to be curious to see how hard they want to defend their turf.

According to http://www.reddit.com/r/Kappa/comments/3dwx4z/evo_2015_finals_twitchtv_peak_viewer_counts_stats/

The relevant stats are:

Tekken 7 (Saturday)
6:00 - 8:45
54,344 viewers at peak

Guilty Gear Xrd (Sunday)
12:15 - 2:00
121,314 viewers at peak

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (Sunday)
7:00 - 9:10
165,003 viewers at peak (+15,533 from 2014)

Ultra Street Fighter IV (Sunday)
9:45 - 12:45
228,776 viewers at peak (+98,102 from 2014)

Nice to see USF4 finally get the most fighting game views.
This puts the numbers in perspective. Every game on Sunday grew the audience, Marvel just had the smallest growth.

I feel like either one of two things are going to happen:

1) America gets enraged at the results and vow to never let that happen again, get hungry again and start grinding for next year's EVO. Then next year EVO it's back to business as usual with US domination in top 8.

judging by social media this isn't gonna happen. everyone is being a little bitch.

America stay taking Ls.

Persona did get golden sticks guys :P I just saw Chou's lol

That's what I thought. I swore that I remember seeing them get golden sticks on Friday. I believed other people saying they didn't because that sounds like something that would happen :P

I'm glad they did get it though.

I was heartend to find out that Ai Ai was outside the old scene and was a online monster and went on to actually kick ass at tourneis. I wonder if Japan does not have the stigma of the online warrior. I know they don't have the batshit insane ideas of some in the west.
Have other issues

That heartens me. Gonna give Juri a real solid try on ps4.

Whenever you read this--Hope you had a blast at Evo, Q!

I only got to see JP players steamroll Persona pools, looking forward to checking out the VODs for everything later.

i am so goddamn excited for NYGX next month, 3 days of VF with people coming in from all over the world to play. I just got confirmation that another og is coming from canada who's been playing since VF1. i hope people here watch, it's going to be really special.

I feel like the marvel only players like cloud and clock will probably still be hungry for the win but everyone else will focus on sf4/mkx etc.

You would think that someone who gave up their livelihood to perfect his craft and then win at the biggest stage due to sheer dedication and hard work would inspire people to step up their game or at least give due respect.

But nah people would instead be salty, complain and play the blame game.

Can't wait until KBR is put into fraud status because he doesn't win the next major he goes to...

Really looking forward to this.

First Persona tournament I've entered outside of a local in almost 2 years and I was one game out from Top 32 :v

I wanna play some more, I'm good at this game but super bad in tournaments cause I never get to go to any. Lots of choking it up.

That may be true. But if i hardline on only playing the game i like best i'll mostly be playing randoms online. I think there's value in offline in person play even if it's in a game i don't like. At worst i can learn some stuff to take to my main game.

Yeah, that's what i'm worried about too. "Oh, his fireball ran out, time to do three forward dashes in a row!" So it will be interesting to see how it pans out, right?
Oh, sure. But to follow it for years with dedication? That's weird to me.

Yeah, when you put it in that context that's fair. Well said
Thank you!

Cool. Look forward to it.

"At the end of the day, there is only passion and love for the game" is how I read the title (I guess I'm a hippy, lol).
I read it that way, too.

I had to explain to my wife why JChen and SKill were crying by the end. She said "They weren't even playing!" The passion and love for the community is just so strong in these people. I know people like to throw the "it's just a game" adage around, but I think that does the experience a disservice.

Dude, his levels of Hulk aggression were unprecedented. I've never seen anything like what he was doing. Hulk was just constantly in the opponent's face with hitboxes and armor everywhere. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

This is why single character tier lists are goddamn stupid.

Also, it's why people should pick their shit instead of tier whoring. I'm talking about you, Viscant!

We need the return of the DA BEECH!

The Rising Thunder designs might be intentionally bland because you can purchase better looking ones, it's ftp after all.

If Smug is gonna be in the capcom cup he really need to pick up a character who can fight Elena cause they're gonna be throwing her at him.

Customizable mecha designs through FTP purchases would be godlike.

Does anyone really "beat" Elena?

I feel like the dive kick characters have the best shot.

Or maybe there's visual customization/alts you can buy.

Or maybe the generic ones are the initial ones to ease the new players into it (ie the Ryus) before showcasing the crazy ones.

#1 reason why an American isn't going to win Capcom Cup. Too many staunch character loyalists and too many of them have characters that just lose to Elena. The top 3 EVO players had pocket Elenas and there will be more at Capcom Cup.

Honestly it's just too late for Americans to do real damage in USF4 now. They are simply playing a different game from the other players.

that's what is the most disappointing thing about all of this.

Everyone claims FGC is about love and passion for the game, this dude finally wins after he gave up everything because of his love and passion but he gets shit on.

I'll save my conspiracy theories for myself, but fuck the NA scene. shit is disgusting

This actually bodes well for the SFV scene in Japan, while an arcade release would be ideal, online warriors shouldn't be underestimated. The Topanga crew trains a lot by playing online.

Social media has some distortion but I do agree they won't fix that because game is waning and it's widely seperated areas of power, the only way they could revitalize that is setting up a system that they get regular matches between the regions. With no money in Marvel that shit ain't happening.

We have a better chance of that happening in Street Fighter but that will take more effort than I think people will give.

So I wanna get into fighting games.
I've been trying to find a fightstick, so are there any fightstick that are compatible with pc?
I've been searching and all I see are for xboxone/360 and ps3/ps4.

First thing I did last night is look up Juri's frame data on her fireballs.

33 frames total if you're holding the charge? That is sexy. Like 10 less than Ryu, and only 3 more than Guile.

It's like they finally made a rushdown fireball character.

RIP DeeJay.

Pretty much every stick is PC compatible. You might need to download a driver, but you'll be fine. If you're worried, ask in the Fight Stick thread for confirmation before buying.

Man I'm still sad negus choked against bang in top 8 SG. His painwheel was so on point with the crazy resets that really looked as though he could have taken the whole tournament.

Man I really feel for him. Going to have to buy him a couple drinks when he gets back home.

It's the damn NA Capcom cliques.

If you are hating on KBR winning EVO then there's something inherently wrong with you as a person.

Yeah, this is why SFV will probably explode out of the gate since everyone will feel like they are starting from square one and have a shot.

yeah i know its not all of america, but those are the most prominent players.

we need more new blood. the old guard are basically republicans at this point

I'm looking forward to SFV.

I think the next character will be Elena. V-Trigger......You know it.

Yeah, KBR is the best. Perfect person to win. I was kinda rooting for rayray to win because he USA but really wanted KBR to take it.

Here's what's actually going to happen with SFV:

*Day 0 hype, OMFG best SF ever! USF4 sucked ass, time for some REAL Street Fighter! NO MORE OPTION SELECTS!!!

*OP strats/characters are figured out "man SFV balance kinda sucks, USF4 was WAY better balanced!" Also option selects are found because option selects always get found.

*Players you never see winning in USF4 start winning in SFV "oh of course they are winning, SFV is a fraudulent game not like USF4 which required 1 frame links and real skill"

*Similar characters in top 8s leading up into EVO. "So and so characters need nerfs/buffs!" leading into lobbying for balance changes on their characters.

*Capcom finally balances, some players don't like some changes and they compare it to NRS "knee jerk" changes.

*More "man USF4 was a real honest man's game... SFV is for scrubs and 15'ers!"

*New DLC character is released, players complain it's over powered and state that Capcom wants you to pull out the money for it.

*New big version is announced. People get hyped again because SFV is FINALLY going to get balanced properly and the systems changed up. Finally characters like R.Mika get in the game and now they get to start fresh.

*Repeat from step 1.

I can't really imagine anyone more deserving of the win. Not only has he put in the time and dedication, but he was playing some of the best Marvel of his life in that tournament. Nationalistic hate garbage needs to go.

I don't even think that's what it is.

Americans hate putting in work. There's always excuses for something and this guy just proved that hard work does pay off.

Any US player would have mentally quit if Gamerbee pulled off 4 heals in one round against them, got on Twitter and bitched about how it's a stupid game. Instead Infiltration adapted and forced Gamerbee away from his "op" character.

US players want the easy route. It's why they clung to Marvel. No one ever gave a shit about it so we could have fun in our kiddie pool with our arm floats but now they do, and we got fucking bodied, so now the excuses come out.

It may take some time but SFV will become balanced soon enough, you can see that they are real proud of USFIV's balance. And this time they are focusing on the competitive scene from day 0.

It kinda reminds me of the entire marvel clique coming together to shit on Full Schedule that one tournament where he beat fchamp and neo, even though the dude is actually a hard worker who helps his scene as far as I know. Big E banning his stick even though the dude didn't actually break any rules really demonstrated where the community was at.

yeah i know its not all of america, but those are the most prominent players.

PR Rog and Du are technically '09ers, aren't they?

Old saltfiends like PL getting pushed to the side for the next generation in MK was a good storyline for MKX, and their top 8 felt like a really positive experience.

Du is a 09er. I think Luffy is one, Infiltration technically is one too. The most explosive players tend to be new people. Look at Ai Ai.
People never realized how good Juri's fireballs were. They're godlike.
I did. I just suck. But I made people rage quit when they ran into them. Poor T Hawks.

yeah i know its not all of america, but those are the most prominent players.

This is why I love the new changes to SF5. It makes the old guard uncomfortable? Well fuck them we need new blood to change the scene.

I can't really imagine anyone more deserving of the win. Not only has he put in the time and dedication, but he was playing some of the best Marvel of his life in that tournament. Nationalistic hate garbage needs to go.
This is why I never liked the whole USA chant thing especially in games where the US has NEVER won evo. It just seemed stupid and tribal. You should like the style of play. We are all a specials that arose in a rift in Africa, none of this nation shit. Especially when you nation is shit at building new talent.

Huh...apparently that game Rising Thunder is made by Seth Killian. It looks cheap given its got no life to its background and that it has very little in the way of effects, but what it has is some really good animation and apparently a lot of love poured into its combat.

Its odd though...its F2P, and built where you have 3 attack buttons, and then 3 special moves that have their own buttons. You also have a cooldown on special moves so I guess its meant to be noobie friendly. Could work if they have a lot of effort put into move specific cooldowns on specials so I wont rule it out as bad, just mark it as different and explore it when it comes out to see how it functions in practice.

Also theres something like 100 variants or something per character as you choose a 3 special move loadout for your dude...guess thats where F2P might come in?

I dunno...its odd, looks cheap and has a lot of ear markings that says F2P might turn it into gems 2.0 by making your character a case of the haves and have nots in terms of tiers. Or it could very well add a level of customization to characters that keeps them fresh and balanced per matchup to eliminate matchup strain to an extent.

Just don't know enough...it does have someone competent behind it and its animations and attacks look well made so I'll try the alpha thing thats hitting in a week. I'm cautiously optimistic here. Its got a lot of pitfalls to avoid, but making fighters approachable is something that often leads to interesting stuff like Melee.

My 2nd P4U2 tourney ever (and I didn't own the game for the first one lol). Still happy for my placing considering I don't play P4U2 really. Chou was auto-loss into losers bracket though :/

Just still seeing if I can get an answer for this. Also is there a thread more dedicated to discussing fightsticks?

Does anyone know when Madcatz is planning on shipping out these PS4 TE2s? I want to go ahead and upgrade with the SF5 beta coming. It says pre-order on the main page, but when I go through the motions it acts like I'm buying it right then. Says nothing about when it will actually be shipped.

I don't wanna slap down 200 bucks until I know.
