I never understood the Shoto hate bandwagon.

Can't speak for anyone else but have you ever had a song you keep hearing everywhere? Like on television programs, in adverts, played aloud at nightclubs, etc to the point where you're just kind of sick of it? For me, couple that with a severe case of novelty-addiction and I personally just want anything other than a shoto to turn up as both my opponent and in my selectable characters

Also... I subscribe to the leon philosophy:

The rifle is the first weapon you learn how to use, because it lets you keep your distance from the client. The closer you get to being a pro, the closer you can get to the client. The knife, for example, is the last thing you learn.

To me, fireballs are rifles. You're welcome to use them but I want to knife you

edit: I guess I should be clear that like the others posting here I don't actually 'hate' shotos. I'm just kinda bored of them.

We don't need 6 characters who share the same playstyle and moves apart from a few tweaks. Instead, put more variety in.

I don't hate shoto characters, I just find the "archetype" really boring, so having five or more characters with this kind of gameplay can't be a good thing to me.

They are definitely putting more thought into it this time, but I don't know if they'll take that "big of a risk" with her. I could see it going either way, but time will tell, if she is even in to begin with.

They took a risk with the second most important and famous character of the game (Ken), why would they not take a risk with Sakura as well?

I remember reading that she is Ono's favourite character in SF series in an interview on GamesTM (was a four or six pages interview published in one of the issues of 09 I think).

Too soon. Game is about 8 months out and they still have 8 characters to reveal.

Why do people keep saying "if they bring Sakura back, she wont be changed designwise?" She already has a canon older look, that has nothing to do with being a school girl. They would 100% use that that design

They didn't change Chun-Li even though they had a bunch of quality redesigns they had drawn up. The unfortunate expectation is for them to be super conservative in this respect.

Street Fighter 4 made me hate them more than any other fighting game on the face of the earth. My problem is that the characters rarely ever evolve both in terms of personality and gameplay. That and everyone and their mother picks them and we know how a new guy is going to play with them: run away, chuck fireballs, bait you to jump in, Shoryu, wakeup Shoryu if they get knocked down, jump tatsu crossup, tatsu to get in, basic flowchart.

It's so incredibly boring to play 10 people in a row (and I've actually had this happen) who play almost exactly the same with the same kind of character. Plus SF4 had (counting Sagat) 8 shoto characters...

That's why I don't understand why people are excited over Ken's reveal. He's the same character as before except now if he spends meter on a jumping Tatsu, it becomes a Dive Kick move that he can juggle off of, and he's got a command dash. That's it. That's not a new character. He's got a new gimmick move and the properties on his Tatsu have changed. That's it. I honestly believe people who are hype about Ken's changes have never played an SNK(P) fighter. Because SNK(P) enjoys radically changing up characters from game to game and the standard shoto's in their games play radically different compared to Capcom shoto's.

That said, I like that Ryu's got a Parry and that will change the dynamic by quite a bit (hopefully).

for the first lady of fighting games, i atleast expect them to be conservative because of the icon status. Not a character who was canonly out of her teens years ago and has had a canon appearance to reflect that for almost 20 years

I don't think they've taken any risks with either of the females revealed so far, and again they wrote a reason to keep her in the uniform regardless of age.

I'm not saying they are not going to do it, but I think the chances they will leave her old design are higher than the chances they will change it, from my perspective at least.

Gouki as a DLC could set shittons. But that could raise an outrage among a lot of fans, too.

I for one hope we can get as many characters as possible along the way anyway, provided they manage to keep things "balanced", so that everybody can be pleased. Even Dan fans.

Seeing as that list has 18 characters and not the confirmed 16, I think it's pretty safe to say it's fake.

SFIV Ken Light Tatsu, Med Tatsu, Heavy Tatsu & EX Tatsu are pretty much the same shit except for a bit of dmg/stun and them being -2, 0, -1 and +1 on hit.

SFV Ken Light tatsu is like Akuma's and you can combo after.
SFV Ken Med tatsu resembles his normal tatsu
SFV Ken Heavy tatsu can jump over fireballs, change jump arcs, anti air maybe etc
SFV Ken EX tatsu is Juri's divekick.

His "gimmick" command dash lets him continue his rushdown and also opens up new combos for him.

Momochi did cross up mk, heavy punch X command run x cr mp x lk tatsu ex srk.

Exactly the same as SFIV.

Did you just imply people playing a zoning game with fireballs are "less skilled" than rush down characters? Yes that must be why Daigo prefers them, because he sucks and is boring.

Notice in the Leon quote that the key word is 'learn' not 'use'. Leon doesn't kill everyone in the film with a knife now, does he? Also, close != rushdown. That is only one style and it's certainly not mine :3

I get what you are saying, but I don't think Cammy and Chun-Li keeping their classic designs mean much towards Sakura's design (if she is in the game), especially Chun-Li's design, considering she is the first female character in a fighting game and extremely recognizable.

At any rate, I don't care a lot about Sakura. I like her, but I don't play shoto, so her design is not a big deal to me.

Now if I could get a female grappler who isn't R. Mika. Or at least Alex to come back.

Yeah, I don't think she will be in the starting roster either, but she will eventually be in the game as DLC. So I think the discussion about her design is valid.

Speaking of DLC, it would be nice go get new DLC characters every two months or so, instead of "DLC packs".

What would be the point? The reason people want a new outfit is because she isn't in school anymore and it is inappropriate for her to wear it, but if they're just gonna offer the schoolgirl outfit as DLC then they clearly do not care about what is appropriate, so may as well just make it the default costume and offer something new as DLC.

The point is that Capcom would be permanently changing the appearance of a classic character, which is a good thing to me, BUT some people don't like changes when it comes to character designs*, so they would offer her original outfit as DLC to please those folks. Everybody wins in this scenario.

*Just look at how much Reptile fans begged for a "classic skin" for the character in MKX threads.
