Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

He only has two special moves, right? Command grab and berserker barrage? It seems like at least one of the Barrage versions is an anti-air going by the trailer, but it might be V-Trigger only.

edit: nope, he has it in regular mode.

the stomps seem to be a special but were only done in V-trigger. the barrage might be two separate versions for ground and air, since he uses EX versions of both the horizontal and angled moves

actually the stomp is definitely a special since he EX's it.

I am probably going to be playing an aggressive character in the SFV beta like Cammy. I don't think a zoning/defensive character is going to work that well in SFV. Not that they have a dedicating zoning/defensive character in SFV yet anyway.

It's possible that the stomps replace the seismo in v-trigger, but there's an ex move so it's probably just added in.

Yeah I'm afraid the fireball game will be pretty weak.

we never see him do the v-skill whiled triggered (lol). I bet it has at least a different animation, considering how wildman the ground pound is, if it's not an outright different move, which would be cool

I was thinking the same thing. I think she also has stuff that can combo from her lights.

People were subdued cause the sound didn't work for most of the trailer so they were telling for them to turn it on instead of paying attention to the screen.

I kinda wished they had replayed it

...good?
Just kidding. I think it needed toned down a little but I hope its not weak and unviable. Full screen hadoken festivals were dull and needed tuned, but here's hoping they didn't make projectiles nigh irrelevant to the meta.

Eh, the sound was working in the secondary ballroom and nobody was feeling it there until the V Trigger either.

Vesper breakdown of Bison

https://youtu.be/ZX_oQl2_32c

Bout 30 min in there's some interesting stuff on Bison being able to special cancel into other specials while in V-trigger, without having to charge each one.

Yeah, saw that last night when it went up. Am suitably amped for my main, even if my favorite roundhouse ever isn't the same anymore.

A question that I probably know the answer to. My hands are slightly messed up.....and it would be much easier for me, I am guessing, to map V-Skill to HP + HK and V-Trigger to MP + MK, but I am guessing much like Focus attacks in SF 4, I am out of luck, aren't I?

:(.

If so, goddamnit....:(

personally, I'm interested in Nash. his v-trigger looks really strong in a game with big damage. it's fast as shit and has mixup and punish applications, so the mindgames are pretty sick. I like the idea of an uncontested sonic boom, because the opponent's going to eat a teleport jump-in combo if they throw out their own fireball unless they can also cancel to safety (and even then have to guess unless they can cover all 3 teleports)

cammy seems like a character that's going to dominate online early for sure. her gameplan in SFIV is perfect for this one.

I wonder if there's a way to tell Capcom. Not that they'd necessarily listen to feedback, but the option of decoupling those functions and allowing the user to assign them at will would be great for accessibility.

Finding all these people I know talking about Woshige and Ogawa now that i didn't even know played games is kinda whoa. That Sportcenter highlight is really making the rounds now.

I am also even more upset now that I completely missed Xrd top 8 live.

BTW, any word on what the plan is for SF5 beta if you preordered on PSN? I assume it'll just go up today with the store update but curious if anyone has heard something different.

The parts I can read aren't mentioning specific people in the top 8, but instead general things. Like #2 seems to be about what he should do on wake up, and the last line of #2 says [something illegible to me] becomes a "losing pattern".

Thanks! Interesting how he feels that he need to write all this to himself.

From Combofiend's Blog

Users who pre-order digitally through the PlayStation Store will not need to redeem a Beta key, but will need to manually download the Street Fighter V Beta client from the PSN store starting on 7/20 (Pacific time).

But when did SC last have a strong competitive scene in the West? was it SC2?

Pretty much.

SC3 released on console before arcade, back in the day when patching console games was unfeasible and arcade-first games had the benefit of getting a lot of bugs and balance issues squashed in location tests before wide release. I recall people saying that the game was very poorly put together. SC4 and SC5 didn't seem to be able to turn this around.

I hope they show a dedicated zoning character very soon. They might be holding off right now because those kind of characters aren't great for some kind of highlight reel like the trailers.

Crash-14 is the EVO 2015 PREDICTION CHAMPION!!!!

gxR3dKI.gif

Crash-14 has now earned the title of EVO NOSTRADAMUS for one year!!!

The predictions!

*Ono's cosplay (5+3)
*The number of unique characters in the USF4 Top 8 (5)
*That Tekken X SF will NOT be at EVO (everyone got this right though except for 2 people) (5)
*USF4 had the highest stream view count (5)
*Correctly predicted the number of bracket resets (5)
*Was correct on Season 1 characters having more representation than Season 2 characters in KI. (5)
*Was one of the few users to guess that there will be no repeat EVO winners (5)
*Guessed the EVO finish time of 10 PDT (he guessed 9:30 PDT but rounded up that's 10 PM) (5)

Correctly predicted the following EVO winners (12 points gained here):

Smash 4: Zero
GGXrd : Ogawa
MKX: Sonic Fox
Killer Instinct: Rico Suave

Finished with a staggering 57 points!

PM me for the rewards!

Wow. I didn't spect this. But since I'm EVO nostradamus I'm predicting that first SFV EVO winner will be an ame... Better I don't finish that if I wanna be take seriously.

Should I throw some early bets for next EVO? kappa

I quickly organized some of the more notable moves to try and get a sense of the new guy since he's got a cool design:

sarkeezyfipdz.png

Two interesting facts I found out:

 • The non-EX haka stomps cause two different properties in the trailer. One links and the other causes a bounce. This leads me to believe it's probably a full special move and not just a V-Skill replacement.
 • Most notably, the trailer shows two different versions of EX Discus Guidance, which can be one of two things. Either you can change the EX direction with your button presses like Juri's EX Dive Kick in Ultra, or he has two sets of Discus Guidance like Sagat's Fireballs. Either would be interesting.

I wonder if there's a way to tell Capcom. Not that they'd necessarily listen to feedback, but the option of decoupling those functions and allowing the user to assign them at will would be great for accessibility.

I might try and remember my login for Capcom Unity or tweet @ Combofiend, I dunno. My expectations are low, though.

Right, there was a game-breaking bug in SC3 called air-teching (or something) where you could recover from a juggle mid-air and it fucked everything up. Hilde was too good in 4 and broke the game afaik.
This begs another question - Soul Calibur 2 is one of the most popular fighting games ever made, why did people stop playing it? Is there something that keeps new players from picking up SC2 while games that are even older like 3S or Melee continue to get new blood? Is GI not as gratifying as parry?

has been posted the crowd reaction at the Necalli reveal?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGK7FkSDqk0

It's seems people wasn't feeling it until he activated the V-Skill. and even then..
Honestly its not a great trailer. Half the time I was trying to figure out if this was a redesign of an existing character (Akuma? Eryu?) and it didn't convey the character as well as it could have. That plus, well, the design is kinda plain. I understand not wanting to make the next fuerte or whatever but he seems kinda eh
In general? I think the way it flops around is just because he's unfinished. I do wish he started with his floaty hair though lol
Hopefully it's unfinished. The way it moves around it looks like they just glued a bunch of cammy braids on him.

Wait. Does Necalli have the only V-Skill that connects at a distance so far on command?

With V-Trigger being permanent, I wonder how many bars he has to build. Seems like one of the easier V-Skills to build meter with. Also one of the most offensive.
