Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Wait.

Are actual real life human beings legitimately complaining about KBR's team? I figured this was all a joke I'm not in on.
I don't think there's a single character in the top 30-40 of the cast that doesn't get some sort of complaints.

X-23? OMFG MORE SET PLAY THAN ZERO.. UNBLOCKABLE SO CHEAP!
Captain America? YOLO CHARGING STAR INTO HYPER CHARGING STAR FOR EASY MODE DAMAGE!!!
Super Skrull? METEOR SLAM YOLO COIN FLIPS NON SENSE!
Shuma? Urgghh... Mystic Ray is SOO CHEAP! IT COMBO BREAKS YOU AND COMES FROM OFF SCREEN AND HITS FULL SCREEN! I CAN'T MOVE WITH MY ZERO/MAGNETO BECAUSE OF THIS ASSIST!

It's a game that is designed around just about every character having some over powered mechanics or ability. Even the two worst characters in the game Hsien Ko and Phoenix Wright are cheap/OP in some situations (Hsien Ko with the super armor assist and Phoenix Wright with the Turnabout mode).

Did FChamp really get much hate for his Evo win? I remember more hate being directed at Infrit.
FChamp got a lot of hate for being a Phoenix player and because he's FChamp the villain. You already forgetting the boos? The Infrit hate mostly came from FChamp + his camp, most other people didn't really care about Infrit.

I remember the Luffy hate, calling Rose a cheap character and saying his win was fraudulent because he made Bonchan look more free than a grocery overstock giveaway.

Honestly getting hated on is a rite of passage for EVO champions now. "Hulk won Marvel, thus Marvel is dead" = "Zero won Marvel, Marvel is just a Zero TOD game" from Flocker's victory. It's all the same.

I don't care much for Marvel and I'm pretty new to the FGC, so I can't say much, but the community and its salt surrounding the game is probably the most interesting/hilarious to follow. Following these tweets is pretty nuts.

meh he probably only apologized because he got a ton of flak from people on twitter.

The reason why most people apologize in general.

wheres MarkMan when you need him. I'm sure he could clarify

Please allow me to clarify!

EVO 2010 - We made 24 GOLD EVO TE FightSticks. Number 1 - 8 went to top 8 of SSFIV. 2 went to the cannon award winners. 1 went to Kayane for winning the women's tournament. 4 went to the EVO heads. The rest went to friends within the industry.

Capcom Cup 2014 - We auctioned off 12 of them for charity (Philippine Red Cross). Top 3 for each game got one (3 games). The rest are with Capcom.

EVO 2015 - We made 40 GOLD TE2s. Top 3 of each of them 9 games were awarded one (27 total). 4 for the EVO heads. The rest for industry/internal use.

Yeah, I know that. I was just under the impression people who still play this game 4 years later would've accepted it by now. I'd think dudes would be excited to see something new actually winning when the mvc3 "top tier" has been stagnant for so long. FGC is weird.

They only thing annoying that happened for me this year at EVO, though, was how my friend got hassled for being in both Tekken 7 and USF4 at the same time. He was still in the Tekken 7 tournament when the USF4 semifinals started, and Noel Brown came over to tell him to hurry up. You can't get disqualified in EVO just because you're playing in another concurrent pool in a different game, and since my friend's first language isn't English, he didn't understand that clearly, and it made him really nervous.

Once he got done with Tekken, he ran back to the USF4 semifinals and didn't have any time to tell his other friends that he was back so that they could watch him play or give him advice.

I just think it could have been handled better somehow.

Marvel is the God of Salt.

Grats on member!

cool. thanks

I thought other games got them in 2010 as well. I was way off.

Hulk drones is some vile shit, adding on lariat? Come on son, that shit is "cheap" but everything in marvel is cheap. I play zero, I know what's good with the cheap shit. I've played dope as hulls who use drones, it's some cheap shit but u go on about ur day and play nigga.

The evo mind blown emoji was me agreeing with you lol. Hulk is vile with drones.

There are two different type of people you are talking about here.

One camp are the more casual FGC crowd who have a generally passing interest in the game and just prefer to watch rather than play. Those people don't know that much about the game aside from what they see. So they are the ones tired of the top tiers and for them KBR winning is refreshing and entertaining.

The other camp is the old guard of the Marvel players. People who have been playing the game competitively for a long time. These are your FChamps. They have in their own mind a certain meta of Marvel and anything that strays away from it is considered scrubby or dumb. Not every top Marvel player is like this but there are enough of them for this to be a thing (obviously or we wouldn't be talking about it).

To paint a better picture on this, a few years ago people were theorizing about a potential Marvel 3 patch and what changes the top players would like to see. At the FGTV, Magus/FChamp/ShadyK/GCYoshi were making their patch list and all of them agreed that characters like Hulk/Haggar should never be "good" or "competitive" and they actually wanted NERFS on those characters. Their thinking was that characters who are easy to play should never be as good as Magneto who takes a high level of skill to play and a character who should always be top tier.

Basically FChamp and co wanted to turn the Haggar vs Magneto match up from a 8-2 match up to a 9-1 match up because they think Haggar is scrubby or whatever.

so markman any word on the sf 5 pads? are you guys planning on showing them anytime soon? have they been canceled?

Guess I expect too much from a player that didn't even know what Arthur's level 3 did until he got hit by it in tournament. Still pretty surprised by the number of people that share the Fchamp mindset.

Reminds me of all the dumb melee vs smash 4 stuff. Or even Starcraft 1 vs Starcraft 2 arguments. Too many people seem to think pressing more buttons = having more skill. Weird how that works.

There's really no good way to handle a situation where you have a conflict between pool play and quarterfinals/semifinals. They do schedule pools so that doesn't happen, and I figure that the pool/semifinal conflicts are rare enough that you just kind of deal with it as it happens. You're right that DQs should not happen due to a conflict between official games, but communication with the judges and TOs in such a situation is paramount. The issue there is that can be difficult when you don't speak English as a second language (or at all).

Trying to deal with multiple games as a player or as a TO is always "fun". All you can really do is keep people informed as best you can and just plow through it.

Infiltration got shit for not being Daigo being "boring" with Akuma
Xian got shit for winning only because of his "unknown" character"
Luffy got shit for winning because of his character

Momochi seems to be in the clear though for now

I stopped hardcore following SF at EVO 2012 and I remember Infiltration's Demonfest so as a returning follower, getting to see his variety made me really hype and got be back in.

Apparently Dan Patrick talked about it on his show today.

Him and Her also featured the clip.

How long till the Japanese TV will show this clip?

HRAP4 Kai impressions:
Wow, the stick has no resistance at all. I am not sure how I feel about it so far. It will take time to adjust, because the resistance on my SA guides my execution.

Yeah, I remember mentioning my friend's being weird way back. It's like I'm slamming into the gate when I'm playing regularly.

Ok, I definitely did not see you then. Good thing I didn't try to go to every person in a wheelchair and asking if they're Q lol
That'd be awkward

I was wondering why the salt from the American players was so funny to me, and I remembered it reminded me exactly of how desperate and salty those atl commentators were when Wong played their hometoen hero lol

This gif perfectly describes that match:

I wonder how much of the salt over Zero has to do with him being Chilean. I wonder if that is such a thing in the Smash community.
