Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have BAD BLOOD on Twitter

Madonna doesn't matter. The fact is that the media worked hard to fuck Tidal because, to my knowledge, it has higher payouts and has less label involvement than Spotify. People applauded Taylor for taking a stance, but people were coming up with 1001 reasons why Tidal should fail though it's better for artists than Spotify or Pandora.

It's because it's owned by a black man.

lol

Tidal is failing because it doesn't have a free option, provides a premium service that few music streamers are interested in, is missing various artists from its library, and had one of the worst launch events in recent memory. It has little to do with Jay Z and even less to do with race.

So it's bad for them to want to get paid more for their work aka adapt to a situation because they're already rich? and if they're helping themselves, they're helping other artists since the people on stage weren't the only people with their music on the service and of course they're not going to focus on indie artists the entire time, but they made it known that indie artists will benefit for being on the service. Along with the big artists, but that was probably to get more artists to drop exclusive releases like Lil Wayne just did.
They didn't prop indie artists up, though. They propped themselves up. It's not bad to want more money but a lot of people find that if you're rich and you want even more money then you're just being scummy.

Of course because Tim Cook isn't in an industry that is hurt because people are getting his stuff for free or anything. Completely different. These are musicians pushing a music service that will get them paid more because their current industry is being hurt by the low payouts by streaming service. Tim Cook isn't a musician. That's a big difference.
No. The big difference is Tim Cook has a good marketing team. Tidal would have been more accepted if it didn't start off with rich musicians wanting sympathy because they didn't have enough money.

You can chalk this up to whatever you want and take the objective route of, "they get paid more so it's better" and ignore the reality of the crappy marketing all you want, that does not change the fact they had crappy marketing.

Shirley, you can't be serious.

Tidal was panned because:
- $20 was expensive for the high quality music they were trying to sell.
- It was sold by rich and popular artists, instead of actual indies.

Majority of normal people have no idea who owns the service. Actually, the majority of people don't even know about the service period because it was a marketing disaster. Race is the least of its problems.

Which is why they offered a tier on par with Spotify's paid one. Can't have a free tier and still have higher payouts.

That second point really doesn't matter. Doesn't even make sense. Artists have a right to push a service that would help them out since their industry is fundamentally changing and all artists would profit, signed and indie.

I'm sure more people than you think know Jay Z owns and know what it is, with Wayne's album recently launching on it exclusively and that Nicki/Beyonce video launching on it. Along with it randomly popping in the news when rumors of an artist launching an exclusive album on it.

Nothing is scummy about wanting more money when your main source of income is changing.

It's so weird to see people think it's bad for people to want to get paid for the work they do. Like it's just the artist getting paid off a song and not producers, other writers, etc. I'mma bow out because I think us disagreeing on artists deserving to be paid is a pretty big difference.

oh lol, i fell for the troll

Can someone explain this since I'm seeing it everywhere now?

Come on. This was Jay z's thing from the start. He's the one who bought the company
I know Jay-Z is the face of the company, but we're talking about public perception here. Their unveiling of rich artists wanting more money was specifically called out about the media and other artists.

It doesn't matter that they also offered a cheaper paid tier. The higher quality streaming aspect was its main differentiator -- and everyone knew that there's hardly any demand for that. And the second point does matter, if you read above. If you're not gonna have indies out there promoting your service, and instead trot out millionaires saying they're not getting their share, you're gonna have a bad time.

I don't disagree that artists shouldn't be paid more. Make a service all you want. If you market yourselves as needing more money because reasons then you will fail. Tidal demonstrates this to a tee.

Get artists more money. Don't try to get sympathy from people who make minimum wage. You have failed to grasp how bad Tidal's marketing campaign is and chalked it up to people hating the service because the owner's black.

People didn't hate Tidal off the bat because of Jay Z. They hated it because most people simply don't trust a music service started by rich musicians.

Your snotty remark (to a different poster, not me) was someone who said he didn't know who either of those people were. Not Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, but the two people Taylor posed with. You were just being rude.

Yes, the guy wearing the Nazi shirt, looking at the pic one can understand the racist overtones. The white blonde girl in the green outfit? You told him to "google it" when he asked who she was. And guess what? Googling "Taylor Swift Blonde Girl Green Outfit" is just gonna show 10 million pictures of Taylor Swift in green dresses. So stop being so disrespectful to other posters, please.

So this is totally going to be a song on her next album, right?

Still will be better than anything Taylor Swift has ever put out, that's for sure. Hell, a song about getting fucked in the ass is better than anything Taylor Swift has ever put out.

Ok so Nicki Minaj posted something that had nothing to do with Taylor Swift, but Taylor Swift felt like she was being aimed at? But it was just a generic statement?

If that's what happened, then I sure as hell will be on Team Nicki.

The two women who are nominated in the category appear to be Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

Yes, Taylor Swift is not mentioned by name, in the same way I can say "That poster with a purple female MK avatar sure is an idiot," and then act innocent when you call me out on it for being rude.

I think those first links were kinda the point. Instead of that, slam streaming services for their low pay. Why focus so heavily and negatively on the rich people on stage supporting something you say you support (M&TD link) when they could have slammed that and then focused on the point they're trying to make. We all know there are rich people behind all of these services, so the transparency is a big problem? If indie artists are supporting it, wouldn't you be glad you have big people supporting a program because that would hopefully mean more people get behind it?

That's so weird to me. These are musicians upset that big artists are working to make sure they all get paid more and instead of supporting it to push people to the service, they call it out. That's dumb as hell to me. None of these streaming services are owned by small companies or people struggling, but there was only one actively trying to make sure artists get paid and it's a problem because they brought famous people out to appeal to the most people?

Along with exclusive music(videos), behind the scenes stuff, first sale on tickets for concerts and all the other stuff they talked about. It didn't really bother

I think it's a mixture of both. Not saying the marketing campaign was great, but I also believe race played a factor in the way people slammed it, too.

Stressed Gaffer. I made a mistake about who he was referring to and then edited my post/told him I was mistaken. No need to moderate me.

Well I took your advice by using Google to figure out exactly what a "Gaffot" was. Turns out it you're calling me a stressed faggot? Nice. I see you edited already but I have a screen shot in case anyone questions that. Again, why not just stop being rude to people?

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess someone already gave you a "time out."

Remember that time Taylor broke out her vanilla dance moves @ the awards between an American Idol contestant and I-totally-didn't-pay-her-$$$-to-be-my-friend Lorde?

You have been unable to articulate how race is a factor. This is the problem and original contention.

I think the media and numerous publications were being overly harsh partially because he was black. Just the way I feel; there's obvious nothing factual to support that, but people are gonna feel the way they feel. It wouldn't be the first time that websites have went hard on black musicians and tried to paint them in a bad light.
