Shocking News. Adams Sandlers newest film (Pixels) sucks.

This just sounds miserable, not awful, just miserable.

I think after seeing Jack and Jill on the bus, I wanted to quit seeing movies.

I just want to say that Peter Dinklage is GREAT in The Station Agent. I think its the one pre-Game of Thrones film that really gave him a shot a meaty, serious dramatic role and he's so good.

The movie is good too. Its one those unique character driven comedy/drama indies that puts the characters in quirky situations, but doesn't rely on quirky humor, if you get my meaning.

Which reminds me that the director of the Station Agent made this AWFUL, NO GOOD, VERY BAD Adam Sandler movie last year called the Cobbler. Please avoid at all costs. Sandler is just poison man, bringing down good filmmakers and actors and shit.

I saw the station agent and really liked it, what made me like Dinklage as an actor.

The same director did THAT? What the FUCK?

The reviewers are conspiring against Sandler. His movies can't be that bad. They are all biased when they see Sandler's involvement.

I think. lol

Seriously I don't like Sandler, I won't watch this but maybe there is really some pre-conceived hating towards him because 0% is too awful.

I saw one of the review screenings with a friend of mine.

This movie is some dreck-y bullshit that physically had me rolling a fist and tightly clenching air. I have a rule with myself where I don't walk out of movies, only broken once by H2: Halloween 2 by Rob Zombie and this shit made H2 look like Inception.

Adam Sandler is a literal poison, he's the dark plague of cinema and Tommy Wiseau squeezed more effort out in "The Room" than Sandler has in the last 7 years. Anything he is ever in will be avoided like the puddle of raw sewage and used heroin needles it is.

Oh, and just wait 'till ya see what happens to Q-Bert.

I would rather undergo a lobotomy carried out by two fifth graders with crazy scissors then watch this hot pile again.

Pretty much. Critics see Sandler's name in the credits and it's an automatc piece of shit before the film even starts.

Audiences don't give a shit about this beef, though. No matter how "bad" critics say a Sandler film is, it makes millions. And that just pisses critics off even more.

Preach, I really liked Station Agent.

Mind blown at the same director doing The Cobbler, though. Wow.

I donno. Jack and Jill was super thorough and it's not like any of his movies have deviated from the problems that one had too heavily. Reviewing his newest ones would likely just be repeating that review for the most part.

I'm totally okay with that if it means more HitBs. RLMs output lately has been cruddy.

Is this like a poot mans Wreck it ralph? Avengers 2, winter soldier iron man 2, 3 bored me to death so i doubt ill ever bother with this one. It could be fun if they put it in the right hands i guess?

I've seen a movie poster for this film for months but never saw a trailer until last week. I went from "that movie looks like it could be interesting" to "nope" when I realized it was an Adam Sander film. Didn't even realize it was coming out this summer with the lack of previews. Guess that's somewhat to do with cutting cable and not seeing tons and tons of movie ads but still.

Now that I'm actually thinking about it, that trailer got more laughs than the entirety of Ant-Man when I went to see it yesterday.

I hate this world sometimes.
Really? When I saw Ant-Man there was plenty of scenes where the crowd laughed, for this trailer beforehand there was maybe one at best. No surprise this is crap.

What generation of Americans is this that goes to see these movies? And, horrifyingly, laughs at them? I don't know what demographic is this meant to appeal to other than "video game nostalgia enthusiast" and the majority of those are jaded millennials who don't find anything funny in a non-ironic manner. And this movie gives me the vibes of "so bad you can't even make fun of its being bad."

Yeah... uh. I confess I can't offer a totally informed opinion as someone who has refused to watch any of his filth for many years, but the fact that his reputation somehow manages to get worse in every consecutive film despite reaching what we already thought were impossible lows? Man, that's hard to do. One continuous downward trend for 15+ freaking years. And the best part is that we already know is next movie is even even worse! Again, defying the odds!

I must be crazy - I don't think the trailer looks that bad. Looks about like an Adam Sandler comedy featuring giant arcade characters. Could be fun.

I don't necessarily think that Q-Bert pissing is a bad thing to have in a movie, either. Maybe I'm an awful person.

So Statler, did you hear about Adam Sandler's new movie Pixels?
Sure did, but what exactly is a pixel anyway Waldorf?
Not sure, but seems like older games had to work with a less is more approach.
That's just what I want in a Adam Sandler movie Waldorf!
What's that Statler?
Less of it!

It was cashing in on the simple idea of classic video games as monsters. I don't even think some of the more eccentric fans think about this and I'm not trying to be mean either.

I thought it looked dumb and I love classic arcade games. The idea though is actually against a defense video games make. They aren't attacking real people. We aren't looking at gamers to fight some intergalactic war. We don't even like d-bags that play games to get girls. We don't want to take the game out of where it is for the most part.

Look how dire Stay Alive was. It tried capturing a few things that are indeed enjoyable, but it singled out gamers as trendy hipsters.

I want classic arcade games around more than some, but I don't know if cashing in on a plot like this is the way to do it. I didn't even get into Wreck it Ralph because it's just an idea making money for someone other than what it actually is. I'd take a documentary or a gallery over something like this.

What does Avengers, WS and Iron Man have to do with this? Other than all being blockbuster films.

Its not often I walk out of a movie before it ends. I've only done it twice before in fact, with a step up movie, and on a second screening of the fault in our stars. Otherwise, with the 4 + movies I see in the cinema every week, I will sit through them all. That should tell you something about my opinion of Pixels that I left just after the half way point (roughly)

I go to see his stuff, as "horrifying" to you as that might sound. And, yeah, I laugh, too. I turn my brain off and don't expect Citizen Fucking Kane. Some people enjoy dumb humor. Others recall Sandler from his SNL days. Still others feed off of the nostalgia vibe that's a common theme in many of his films.

I don't expect award-winning stuff from Happy Madison. I know it's gonna be dumb/vapid/maybe somewhat offensive. I'm fine with that, and as long as Sandler continues in movies, millions of others will be, too. Even if you're not one of them.

Sandler to you is like Michael Bay to me. Neither is going anywhere, because they make their studios fucktons of cash.

And, no, I definitely won't watch Pixels in cinema and I'm not a fan of most American comedy movies at all, but I think Pixels still looks like a dumb popcorn movie that might be fun to watch on a saturday evening if you've got nothing better to do and don't want to do something that requires a lot cerebral activity.

I think it looks like a fun movie. Not worthy of a theater ticket, but I look forward to grabbing it from Redbox.

I saw a early screening of this and it isn't bad. I mean it isn't going to win any awards but it's a fun watch. The premise is dumb and the movie is full of plot holes but is a fun turn off your mind kind of movie.

While it does have that trademarked Sandler dumb humor, it isn't as crass/lazy as some of his recent work, especially due to the ensemble cast. For me the low point of the movie was Dinklage. Just didn't work for me.

Hahah that's kinda what we were saying while working on this movie.

I saw this yesterday at a crew screening and it is bad but not %0 bad. I honestly enjoyed it in most parts. It has that Chris Colombus movie charm but sadly you can tell Sandler also had creative control and anything he touches turns to shit. He is also looking absolutely bored in all his scenes.

These posts pretty much sum it up.

It's not horrid. It's not amazing.

It's a mindless flick with a decent amount of humor (some hits, some fails miserably). Not worth full price at the theater, but perfectly acceptable as a Netflix selection or Redbox rental.

This is a 100% reasonable opinion. I apologize if it sounded like I was attacking any fans personally; I'm just not able to piece that possibility together in my mind so it's confusing. It's not as though people should be banned from trying to enjoy themselves. It just surprises me that there's apparently still this much of an audience for this stuff.

And for what it's worth I find Michael Bay types of content to be almost equally as exhausting.

Pretty much.

Critics love hating on anything Sandler is involved in. He is good at making turn your brain off flicks that lots of audiences tend to go and enjoy, as evidenced by the fact that the movies make money.

The movie is up to 15% from zero on RT btw.

You can tell how bad something (or someone) is by how much fans of it can't stop mentioning how much money it makes. Every other sentence with some people.

Holy shit this is an Adam Sandler movie? I never watched the trailers but I assumed it was just some random mainstream video game film. I was vaguely interested in catching it, too

You ALMOST had me, Adam

And you can tell how much if a dick/asshole/bitch someone is by how much they feel the need to belittle other people.

Well, I was belittling the movie and Sandler, not the person. But hey, being defensive of the garbage you enjoy is sort of par for the course, hence the constant references to the fact Middle America likes your stuff too.

You can like crappy movies without constantly seeking sources of validation.

I kind of grew up with Sandler... through SNL, through the first "good" wave of his films, and through his rougher films thereafter. I'm still more partial to the earlier movies (I have a Happy Gilmore problem), but the recurring material just strikes a comedic chord with me. I know what's coming, with the SNL talent cameos, the oft-sophomoric humor, and the soundtrack pulled from any classic rock station. I guess I feel some comfort in that.

I'm also a pretty high-strung guy. Lots of anxiety/stress. Watching these movies (and other dumb comedies) lets me turn my brain off for 90-100 minutes and laugh. They are welcome Pause buttons for me.

I'm guessing that at least some Sandler fans followed him along from SNL, too. Like him, they've gotten older-- and yet maybe, through his ridiculous antics (that aren't for everyone, I totally understand), they feel a bit younger or hear that callback to more youthful times.

Many thanks for your thoughtful response. I wouldn't dare insist to anyone that Sandler movies (including Pixels) are must-see films... but it gets tiring to see them constantly being shat upon as someone who has genuinely enjoyed many of them and who is looking forward to seeing Pixels next week.

Really? only Sandler and the movie? Lets look at your post:

Clearly only belittling those Sandler movies. I would go with that except you specifically call up every other post that isnt directly trashing Sandler or gives reasons why he keeps getting to make movies as a defense force for him and his movies. (I liked some of his movies, and hated others btw)

But I get it. GAF has a ton of movie elitists who get upset when something they dislike makes money and allows the person starring in them or making them to continue doing so.
