Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

The best thing MS can do is bundle the game. It releasing on the same day as FO4 is ballsy and I really see sales being eaten up.

Also I highly doubt most ps4 users will care about TR after a year especially coming after uncharted.
I think the issue is that people care about Tomb Raider, but will they care about it in the midst of a stacked 2016 holiday lineup? I find that hard to believe.

Not MOST people. Most don't have $240 a month to drop on new games in one month.

I didn't say most. But there's going to be 30-40 (probably more actually) million console owners between XB1/PS4 by this Holiday season, and that's on top of PC gamers. Some of those are going to buy multiple games, some of those are only going to buy one game and some of those aren't going to buy any games. But that's a massive amount of potential gamers to tap into, which is why tons of games tend to sell well during the Holiday months.

Well, next year will be the 20th Anniversary of Tomb Raider right?

I expect SE to go all out with the PS4 version, special PS4 edition, GOTY Edition, etc.

As for me and my house, Steam it is.

So, basically timed exclusives make perfect sense for Sony but are ridiculous and unfair when MS pursues them. Ok, got it.

Nope, never said it was unfair or ridiculous for MS to pursue them. It's smart for any company to try to give people reasons to buy their console. I couldn't care less about this personally. I was just responding to a guy who tried to equate FF7 exclusivity with this and trying to point out logical differences.

That is a very long wait for PS4 owners. I hope that price will be maximum of $40, or at least bundled with a lot of DLC [but if it is a DLC like in last TR, they better not bother].

I personally don't think this kind of delay will enable good sales on PS4.

Agreed. Not at full price it won't. Makes no sense to launch it for $60, when steam will have it for $10, and the XBox for $20-$30 max.

If you don't want to wait that long, just get it on PC. Sony is getting Final Fantasy 7 Remake so.....I don't think anyone is going to care about Tomb Raider a full year after it's been out. We're talking about a RoTR media blackout for a year.

A full year? This is the kind of treatment Wii U use to get but when you see it done to the top selling platform for the generation you have to bow down to how affective Microsoft is at this business

way to go I guess

The move is great for Microsoft. Really stupid for Square Enix though.

I noted it would sell decently since it's such a big game. However, the XBO isn't the 360. The 360 had an install base advantage. It had the advantage of having money hatted a lot of JRPG's to somewhat build a fan base for FF13. XBO has neither of those advantages. Tomb Raider on the other hand has a large Playstation fan base. FF 7 would sell decent on XBO, but there is no big fan base waiting for it.

Not to mention, FF7 Remake is timed exclusive to the PS4. That really changes the sales distribution landscape.

I like how everyone has a gaming pc.

This comes out the month after Rock Band 4, Halo 5, Rainbow Six Siege, Guitar Hero Live, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Just Dance 2016.

It also comes out the same month as Need for Speed, Black Ops III, Fallout 4, Battlefront, and XCOM 2.

In the following month, Just Cause 3 and Hitman come out.

Also possibly due out are No Man's Sky, Persona 5 and Fable Legends.

It's a stacked, stacked, stacked holiday season. I don't know how you can just say "People buy more than one game per month," and leave it at that. Well how many people do that? How many do they end up buying? 2, 3, 5? I find that hard to believe. Most people don't drop hundreds of dollars on games per month. Some of us on GAF might, but we're not the average consumer. People are going to have to choose.

Have you ever seen November and December NPDs. Tons of games release, and tons of games sell well. There's a reason the Holiday seasons are stacked with releases. Publishers aren't releasing these things in October, November and December without a reason.

They would be mad to release it at full price, but then again they did release Type-0, Tomb Raider Remastered and Sleeping Dogs Remastered at full price.

Why are we getting this information so early?

Anyways, will buy in the 2017 steam summer sale maybe. Or not all depending on how good UC4 multiplayer is or if it's not under $10 on steam.

iirc I saw a Rooster Teeth video a month or so ago that stated this would be a budget title for the PS4 due to the delay.

It's entitlement to spoiling a game. Sure, we get it. PC and PS4 gamers get it, but the real credit will be those who sit on YouTube or on Twitch and watch someone play through the entire thing. That's the business model.

I'm not incredibly excited about this title. I might get it when it's discounted. I'm probably more excited about the remake of VII. I just see time and technology as being the ultimate recorder of what happens in Triple A video games.

Gears on PC and Tomb Raider isn't a real exclusive. What's next? Games that do more than play?

Just long enough for most people to no longer give a shit about the game. Wouldn't be surprised to see this do poorly on the PS4 with all of the big first and third party games dropping next year.

Hmm, I was thinking at least 6 months, but a whole year is really nice for MS.

Now to decide to wait for the PC version or get it on XB1.

If you got other stuff to play and have a PC that can play it better than the Xbox One version, it's pretty much a no brainer.

Will look and run better on a PC.

Probably they don't want to go toe to toe with Uncharted.

Uncharted is Spring. The longer they wait (if it was truly up to them), the worse position they will be in on the PS4 due to pricing.

They could have launched it Summer or Fall the latest and still avoided Uncharted. This is definitely a paid exclusivity length to be a whole year out, not an Uncharted reactive choice.

That's nonsense. FF7 was huge when it came out.

I've listed the many reasons in my other posts about why there is no evidence of any large FF fan base on the XBO, if you have any counter arguments then lay them out. Your statement above is basically meaningless.
