Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

IIRC Tomb Raider was basically presented as an exclusive, wasn't clarified until there was a large backlash and we didn't get any clarification on release until now.

FF7 was at least announced as first on PS4.

Regardless, I don't really care much either way about this type of thing if you guys are really that offended by these tactics complain to MS/Sony's social media and boycott the game. Only way this stuff will change.

My take on it has always been business is business with these 3rd party "exclusives" like SFV and these "timed exclusives".

It makes sense for companies to keep games away from their competitors consoles, that's fine.

But, you know, tell me up front, no bullshit, how long will that period of time be.

Like Titanfall and SFV, they pretty much shot down any questions of the games ever leaving the XOne and PS4 shortly after questions of timed exclusivity arose.

Am I the only one who don't give a fuck, imo the last entry of the serie was boring and souless.

A cross gen uncharted like after UC collection and UC4, not a smart move.

If anything, the ridiculousness that ended up surrounding this Tomb Raider ordeal and the crazy language around probably taught everyone a lesson on this.

It just looks really silly to obfuscate that much. Be clear and let people make their purchasing decisions accordingly.

Good news for the PS4 players:

Would've sounded better without the last sentence. Kaz fail

Vaporware...? It was an announcement trailer, plenty of games get them, nothing about it is "Vaporware"

Including Phantom Dust and Black Tusks game.

I don't think it's vaporware but surely you see where the person is coming from with CGI trailers

A year exclusivity is fine with me, I'm perfectly willing to wait. We still have the UC Collection and UC4, and I haven't gotten around to the DE of TR 2013 yet anyway..

Still I hope Square got a pretty penny from MS for this. Locking it to the less popular console for a full year seems foolish considering the games RotTR is going up against this holiday--Battlefront, CoD, Halo 5, and AC are all likely to be chosen ahead of RotTR by XB1 and PS4 players alike on the console front. Somehow I feel like this game is going to be doomed to relative obscurity.

Phantom Dust didn't even have a developer named until it was put on hiatus and we saw footage at that time. Black Tusk's game was never even named. ReCore is nothing like those situations.

I think that's a pretty reasonable viewpoint.

I felt the last line is what really made it work. Opinions I suppose.

Not really. It happens all the time (pre-rendered trailers), some projects have difficulties, others don't, neither of Phantom Dust or Black Tusk were shown with the intention of what happened, unless you're overly cynical.

Microsoft have been much more committal on the release of ReCore than they were the others too.

I think it will depend on how good the game end up. Great reviews = possible big sales IMO.
Yeah but usually big games usually sell consoles. Not saying that Quantum Break isn't one of the big games of next year but how strong is Remedy's reputation to actually sell consoles? I really want QB to be amazing and I have faith in Remedy.

But yeah, this isn't a thread about QB.

I think it's quite safe to say that Rise of The Tomb Raider will be better on PS4 than XB1. Only question is how much better? And will it be better than the PC version too?

The PS4 version could have some dlc or some such included, but the chances of it running better than the PC version are very low.

Quantum Break is an Xbox One only game.

You're correct but I doubt MS would put it on PC they still need exclusives for Xbox One. I doubt any major AAA exclusive game is gonna go to PC.
Source?

Because PC got Microsoft-published titles like Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect, and plenty of others both past and present. Ryse and Dead Rising 3 are recent examples as well.

It's actually in Microsoft's interests to push Windows 10 gaming as well.

Biiig surprise.

Now to find that thread where people were arguing with me about this. I thought it was Summer 2016, but whatever. Too bad it couldn't stay on XBO *mumble grumble*

Maybe Sony could pay some cash to SE so they can have the PC port done by Iron Galaxy and secure the best version of the game for PS4.

Halo MCC will definitely come. Probably next year. But I don't see Quantum Break coming until Spring 2017 or something.

Weird that Microsoft let them announce this before the game is released.

I was pretty sure that it was going to be 6 months, one year is nice exclusivity window for MS.

I doubt Quantum Break would be at Gamescom this year if it wasn't going to come out in 2016...just my $0.02.

Edit: Oh, were you talking about PC? If so, nevermind...

Well, saying it's going to be beta tested implies bugs will be ironed out. It's not that clever either way as etta pointed out.

TBH I don't Quantum Break coming at all, its making the Xbox irrelevant, people are just gonna realise oh this game will come to PC in a year no point getting an Xbox, pc gamers that is.

I think games like remasters of old exclusives such as MCC, Gears Ultimate,Rare Replay but not new games like Recore,Quantum Break, Halo 5, Gears of War 4,Scalebound and Crackdown If they all come to PC whats the point of the Xbox One ? They need exclusives to sell the consoles.

In my opinion, it's a damn shame that the industry is still clinging to these severely outdated practices. A year of timed exclusivity is a ridiculous amount of time to be forced to wait. At least the PC wait is more reasonable, although personally I find it absurd that Microsoft is enforcing that exclusivity against one of its own platforms.

GAF beef part 2?

it's not really a beef. Just a topic where all these people were doubting it was timed, then I came in and said something like "guys I don't even like the new TR and it's factually timed exclusive. Mark this post." I can't find it though right now

Soooo, this essentially means for me it went from a must-buy game in 2015, to a probably going to get it from the bargain bin in 2017.

Holiday 2016 is way too long. Sorry SE, no dice.

Every single exclusive deal like this when it comes to multiplatform titles is annoying. Brings nothing of value to gamers.

But they don't care, it's all about business.

This didn't meet expectations on all three released platforms. It'll be something when it sells even less with this staggered schedule.

If they shelve TR because of ignorant release strategy, it would be a shame.

Wasn't the rumor by those Silent Hill guys that it was going to be $40 with the DLC?

That seems like a pretty good price point and value, despite the release date. I think the game will do fine despite it's release date.

They probably got locked sales so to speak from Microsoft truck load.

So TR will be fine, remember Angel of Darkness ...

I wonder if we see any footage of the Xbox 360-version before November 11th. Nixxes has a good reputation and the game seems to be possible on last gen.

My bad, this part sounded way more "It's payback time!" in my head.

Was a huge fan of the previous Tomb raider and was looking forward to this. But there is no way i'm going to be able to stay spoiler free for a year while waiting for the PS4 version. So i might as well watch it on youtube because if the game is anything like the previous one, your not really playing it for the awesome gameplay...

What? Gameplay was super solid!
If not the gameplay what were you playing TR2013 for then? The story? LOL

Exactly. No doubt it'll be some GOTY version but that far out most PS4 owners most likely won't even care. I do hope it does well on xbox but them releasing the same day as FO4 and it just being around other high profile games. I wonder how much it's going to be looked over.

meh, unless Sony is helping with graphics or some type of optimization I would 't worry too much about porting the game later. It's designed for PS4 and takes advantage of the hardware, that's all that's necessary. It is kinda a big deal, but I don't think a SFV deal is quite necessary here, sales will likely be very tailored towards Playstation.
