Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

Yea i dunno. That demo on stage was too scripted, if you look at u4 all set pieces are based on gameplay and this beeng cross gen game it limits them on technical level.
Hated story and Lara in reboot. Ohh well...

Gameplay looked meh but it was a very scripted scene. TR ain't got nothing on Uncharted but it looks fun and it's not like there are 34 new action adventures coming out this year. Graphics look fine to me. Not Uncharted 4 fine but fine nonetheless.

Story was garbage and the Lara reboot wasn't as amazing as some reviewers said before release in my opinion. But eh, cool game still.

The E3 conference footage was an awful, awful choice. The on-floor gameplay looked much better.

Well, the bar wasn't that high in the first place. But yeah, the on-floor gameplay was much better. If what they're saying about weather and its effect on stealth is true, it could make for some interesting encounters.

I hope the fact that they showed off the set piece portion at the conference doesn't mean they think the set piece was intriguing in the slightest. Most of what they showed was already done in the previous game and it doesn't look like they improved their approach to set pieces at all. There's still very little control and we're still getting the same crumbling floor and sliding down a surface set pieces which were already pretty boring to play through in the previous game.

If it was only 900p on xbox one likely would have just waited for the PC version.

1080p on xbox one can't wait a year for the same game to come out for the PS4

I have to agree. It wasn't that it was bad, but the showing and gameplay seem to take qualities of other games and mash them together. So far, ROTR comes off as a "jack-of-all-trades, master of none" game.

Yeah, I said in a previous post that the previous game was like a cross between Batman Arkham Asylum (stealth action + metroidvania) and Uncharted (action set piece + TPS) while having none of the quality displayed in those games.

ROTR is doing something interesting that we haven't really seen before, though. Weather is supposed to be playing a big role in the game which should add an interesting element to their stealth mechanics. The set pieces still seem to be really mediocre which is a shame.

If I would describe myself as one thing, it's patient. So patient, in fact, that I still haven't gotten around to playing the original reboot!

If you were paying for a timed exclusive wouldn't you specify in the contract that they can't announce the other versions until the game has been out for a month or so? >_>

Don't give them (more)shitty ideas.

They're gonna do DLC regardless... may as well make it decent DLC imo.

Like if Sega weren't stupid, we'd have seen new classic zones added to Sonic Generations as DLC. Because that's what the fanbase would have liked to have more of. DLC doesn't always have to be bad.

How is Holiday 2016 shaping up anyway? What would this potentially be going up against for the PS4 only crowd?

Too soon to say, but potential holiday 2016 candidates for Sony:

God of War 4
Gran Turismo 7
Horizon
The Last Guardian

That's excluding the usual onslaught of third party titles like Mass Effect 4, a new COD, etc

Huh. Was considering finally buying an Xbox this Black Friday to play Ori, Cuphead, Tomb Raider, Sunset Overdrive, and maybe finally try a Halo game. This probably won't change my mind because I don't quite want to wait a year, but it's interesting that they didn't at least wait until after release.

I'd rather have a story expansion featuring tombs as well. Tombs without a story are meaningless :p

I'd like something like Wolfenstein The Old Blood, a stand alone expansion 5-6 hours with Lara on another mission.

I though TLG was early 2016. Is it delayed again?

That'd also be nice I guess... but would probably get sold at a Destiny (almost a new game) sort of price, lol.

I don't really need new story though in the DLC. It's important for there to be a decent narrative in the first place for the main game, but by the time I'm playing DLC I'm usually just more gameplay focused, and would happily trade any story resources for more gameplay challenges.

If you need a story... Lara can be told what's at the end of each tomb, and consistently respond with "oooo, I must have it!!!" :P

What you said makes no sense.

.

I was willing to wait a few months for the PS4 version at 1080p had the believe the xbox one version was 900p, i was wrong.

Turns out the xbox one version is 1080p and PS4 version not out for a year, decision made!

I rather play it on xbox one day one than wait for the PC version also

I think its rather presumptuous to think may or may not have spent this. And as we went over earlier in the thread, Microsoft don't lack new IPs, they have a lot of them coming.

I can't really imagine they did this deal and cancelled something else or refused to fund something else in the process.

yea they even have a new ip from black tusk studios which i am very excited about!

Lol. I was kinda disappointed that the last game didn't get a story expansion, I really enjoyed the DLCs for Underworld. More tombs are nice either way I guess. That's if they're actually tricky and have depth to them.

Off the top of my head:

Battefield 5
Mass Effect 4
CoD
AC
Horizon
FFXV
possibly GT7
and who knows what else.
Thanks guys, I completely drew a blank when trying to think of what would be out late next year.

Well looks like it will be the One version I play then.

Multiplats this generation I just go PS4, because well, I personally have no allegiance to any company and 98% of the time the tech specs for PS4 multiplats are better for my own personal tastes (I'll sacrifice a few frames per second, and it is always just a few, for native resolution every single time), but if I have to make the choice between going with native res vs waiting a whole damn year, well I will choose to not wait a year.

Why would The Last Guardian get a Fall slot over Horizon Zero Dawn? Just judging by the E3 Horizon is going to be a much bigger game(size, budget and sales).

I think Sony wouldn't risk it. They know pretty much everyone's hyped for The Last Guardian (due to their legacy) therefore making it a fall title would be a smart move.

However Horizon is a brand new IP (Last Guardian is too but its a Spiritual Successor) even if it looks great summer is the best bet since games hardly come out in summer.

Awful scheduling. Why would they want to squeeze into an already packed season? I think it would do fine in the non-crowded months like July-Sept.

You want to help them finish it to launch for sept? Game is not done yet buddy.

I'll happily pick this up day 1. Loved the first one.

What's so shocking about this? I doubt this does enough sales to justify it's existence. How many PS4 owners just have a PS4?

That's because PC players got the best version of the game. What's PS4 going to get? Slightly upressed Xbox One port? The best version will be out already.
i don't get what you're trying to say here. I said I don't think rotr on xbone will flop.

Square Enix is basically killing this series after spending huge amounts of money ressurrecting it. Shooting oneself indeed.

In any case, I'll wait until November 2016 and buy it for my PS4.

And by then PS4 owners will be over it. I mean I understand on one hand why they do stuff like this, but on the other it doesn't seem like the best strategy to sell copies on the system getting it much later. It will sell copies of course, but not nearly as much as it would have initially, I don't think.

That's the point. For all intents and purposes, this is a full exclusive in the eyes of Joe six pack. I mean, Destiny was seen as a PS4 game thanks to marketing and Xbox copies were on the shelf same day.

Tomb Raider, for a full year, will only be seen on shelves as an Xbox game. Its as close to full exclusive as you can get from a mass market POV.

Bummed out by the news.. One year wait
