Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Yo what makes Elena the go to counter pick character for so many people?
Great buttons, Healing, good damage output. She counters a lot of characters but she does have her fair share of bad matchups, that's why she's always everyone's secondary.
Counters any projectile game easily, top tier footsies, great focus attack.
Not necessarily. Juri can have a solid projectile and rush down game vs Elena tbh.

Elena is love tho

Watching people's sfv training mode footage and it's really fucking strange. Like most people aren't trying to figure shit out or even see what links they just going ham hitting buttons like ghandi or some shit

Did learn that ex shoryu connects after ex tatsu in the corner tho. Not sure if it's worth the meter.

Unless gaining meter changes to be much harder than it is, I think its worth it. Currently, you get meter at a really fast rate that you should be spending meter unless you're saving it for V Trigger or Critical Arts.

Who counters Elena?

Rufus, Yun, Yang, Vega, Rose, Bison, Ibuki, Rolento.

All put up an excellent fight against her in my opinion.

Probably some others I'm not thinking of right now.

Any character that isn't at the mercy of her footsies, essentially. For example, I think Zangief losers to her but I think Hawk goes pretty even because he deals with her on the ground better.

All the chars Mango points out have mobility or options to deal with her stuff in some capacity.

Ex hadoken as well iirc. Ryu does mad damage in this game its crazy.

Everyone does it seems. Almost 50% with Nash using 1-2 bar or so and V-Trigger.

1.0

The cool thing bout ryu atm is that if he is in v trigger and has a full bar any blockstring into super can lead to a full meterless combo due to supers guard break thing. It's a lot of resources but I bet it'd be awesome for closing out a match which is a cool thing to have in a game without chip kills.

I really hope his normal gb fireballs in v trigger are useable in setups and not just a gimmick which everyone will figure out.

Who counters Elena?

Yun, Rufus, Cammy, Sagat, Seth, Ibuki, Chun Li, Juri

Would say Yang but his dive kick isn't as scary as all the other dive kick characters.

I would say Elena counters Rose tbh. Rose can only use Spirals if they're perfectly spaced. Slide can counter ex. spiral and her backdash on wakeup and she can (try) to play the footsie battle vs Rose.

I still think Elena beats Bison.. even though I don't do too well against Bison myself lol

Crush counter combos, last one is cool. Over 50%

https://twitter.com/vryu123/status/624581375576932352/video/1 <---- Is the push back after hit so different on characters in SF? Because it looks like the HK~LP link seems to work without the dash on Nash.

I really hope his normal gb fireballs in v trigger are useable in setups and not just a gimmick which everyone will figure out.
Why wouldn't they? They are a multi hit so characters can't absorb/reflect outside of just parry. They only take a second to charge.

With all the talk about putting down 60$ on PSN and what not.
I would be absolutely exhilarated if Capcom were to announce an early access version only with local vs and netplay, sans single player stuff, keeping it updated with whatever they want to test till it becomes the full retail version.

That increases push back? Or is it something else? Different states don't mean anything unless you know whats different about them.

Increases push back but also adds significantly more hitstun. There wouldn't be time to dash and jab after a normal roundhouse hit, so you wouldn't be able to get anything off it unless you were point blank. You might not get a full combo off a crush counter roundhouse when it's spaced properly, but you would still be able to get some followup that isn't possible otherwise.

So there hasn't been much talk about it because of all the SF5 stuff but what's up with Jebailey going ham and upgrading the venue for CEOtaku and requiring 500 attendees to break even instead of 200? That sounds like a recipe for disaster especially considering SoCal Regionals is slated for the week before.

There aren't enough anime players to support a 500-person anime only tournament that requires travelling yet. Or at the very least, when spaced closely to another event known for a decent-sized anime showing. If it proves successful, it could be rough for other majors in the long term if it were to put in the same time span as another event.

It's kind of a lose/lose situation. If the event fails, it'll hurt the local community, Jebailey and maybe hurt the image of anime players. But if it succeeds it could lead to further complications down the line with the player base and other events.

Pretty much how I feel.

Different crush counters does different states. With Ryu's HK it makes the opponent spin, while HP knocks down. Dictators slide pops the opponent up.

I did. Not too bad but still sucks.

Can we get rid of hand shakes? There's no point.

I actually had no problems with shaking peoples hands, etc at Evo. Of course my girlfriend and myself were using hand sanitizer every couple of hours plus we washed our faces and hands whenever we went up to our rooms.

Oh man, it was gross on finals day. I saw like 3 people straight leave the bathroom without washing their hands. Yuck.
