Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Wow, Rip actually got into some online matches yesterday.

From what I saw it seems like the graph they show during loading screen are for your preformance overall, but it also grades your match preformance at the results screen. You also get 10000 in FM for wins. On his second game he earned 12000 FM instead of the previous amount too. Might have to do with the fact that he won two rounds straight, but I'm not sure.

second person is a japanese player. huh.

Man, too much Anime talk! Forget you guys!

So you're gonna listen to anime. Gundam is great.

As a primarily anime player I don't care for most majors unless I know they have dedicated anime presence. CEOtaku still sounds fun,

I just wanna see Marvel have to have a non streamed top 16 in the back corner and then have 8AM top 8 on a sidestream. I don't even dislike Marvel I just think it'd be hilarious.

Wasn't Linkin Park huge in Japan? Don't they have like a Gundam or something?

I don't think it's necessarily dangerous to his brand as his track record with CEO itself is great. My concern is how this affects his finances for the main CEO and to an extent, how it reflects on the anime community should it end up not being a resounding success. As much as we know it shouldn't, I have this bad feeling some people will think more poorly of the anime community if they don't show up in force. =/

I don't think it reflects badly on anime if the mark isn't hit. I think that says "We're not there yet." Its not different to me than some of the event's trying to build on MK or Marvel exclusive promotions this year. The communities are almost there, but not quite.

The success of CEOtaku will not impact June CEO 2016. The events are different buckets under one brand. Alex likes risks, but he's not going to risk being unable to do anything expected of CEO's Flagship tournament.

Public perception wise as long as its not a failure and a good show gets put on I think it helps anime in general.

You and I know that it shouldn't reflect poorly on anime but we're a part of the level-headed crowd in the community. I'm really unsure if the more irrational folks will think like we do in regards to this.

That's good to know he's separated the op costs out for this then. I guess he's doing if he can afford to take a risk using the Wyndham again but not have CEO2016 be impacted, heh.

Have we talked about the huge amount of growth Smash had at Evo and how it was a bit crowded this year as a result? IGN did a poorly thought out article about it saying there was an "us vs them" thing against Smash.

I don't blame the Smash guys, but my god they take up a lot of space and I don't think things were organized with that in mind orz.

the problem with that article and a lot of articles about the FGC that are general gaming sites is that it's written by a person who primarily deals with Street Fighter, not the "FGC".

People want to tell the smash crowd to stop complaining when they are the main reason why evo boomed in the last 3 years.

I really don't understand why someone didn't foresee those issues this year, lol. We knew the numbers going in and we knew that they were super invested in the games like 2013. So why didn't they adjust the layout to address it. I mean, it was a better layout than 2013 but it still had a lot of fairly obvious problems like I mentioned in my post earlier in the thread.

tbh, i was fully expecting a Smash ballroom with like Persona and Tekken mixed in there instead of what they did this year.

It was funny watching the Marvel quarters/semis and nearly everyone is watching the matches on the projector and there's a pocket of Melee players in the middle (just to the left of where Spooky/Persia were commentating) still going at it (in what I assume were casuals). They paid no mind when KBR beat Justin and the whole area went nuts. Nope. Just focused on Final Destination, haha.

Yeah I feel this. I wouldn't mind Smash like having their own primary (large) area but people would yell segregation when in reality they're just massive and need dedicated space.

Highly doubt that.

Smash overflowing effected marvel anyhow

It is slightly us v them tho... That's kind of the nature of the issue as long as the scenes are piled on top of each other.

I don't really feel against the Smash players, I feel more against the planning staff to try and make it so we can share space in a better way. Smash just takes up a lot of fucking space and it's the new element here they weren't prepared for.

I love my Smash homies <3 We do separate them at KiT to more or less take over one room with CRTs and dedicated Smash stuff and it's not out of wanting them to be away from the mainline FGC stuff, it's out of wanting to give them the appropriate space.

Stick arrived today, Beta is on hold so picked up Ultra for PS4.
Time to begin my long overdue road from scrub to ....well...less of a scrub.
Have played since Street Fighter but never really got serious.
I refuse to be a family guy.

Did smash effect SF4? If not they are good. Mahvel is only a tool. Then again I could be cynical. :P

you base this off....

It did affect Marvel top 16(?), and it affected Xrd worse lol that's a fact. Again not Smashers faults, more on Evo for how they set that up.

Based it off of seeing a crowd watching Xrd on a phone due to the area being jampacked with no projector,

Actually, Smash and SF4 weren't in the same ballroom, which made sense. It's just uh, SF4 took half of the main ballroom and got so crowded it was hard to walk anywhere to find someone in that section.

What's clear is that there are two (possibly 3 if you divide up smash between melee and 4) scenes that are so huge that if not segregated they will stomp on all other smaller games around them so yeah both sf and smash needs there own space.

Anne got the right mindset to handle it I'm too partisan to not see it as us v them

That's a pretty accurate way to sum it up actually. It's just how it is and logistics lol
