Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Isn't type moon too big time now or something?
I'm pretty sure Kinoko Nasu (Type-Moon's writer) has openly opined about doing a new Melty Blood game after the Tsukihime remake is finished, which is coming out in 20XX. So we'll have a new Melty game in 2XXX -- hopefully I live to see it.

I just had to burst laughing when I first saw this scene in the movie. Like Heihachi, dude. what are you doing? You can't eat an ax.

I thought he would dodge the first time i was watching this but then he opened his mouth and so assumed he was gonna catch it, but then he broke it with his teeth and that was beyond my calculation. I would have lost it if he swallowed.

If everything is anime then nothing is anime as it is now a meaningless/useless word.

The way its been used recently, its been near meaningless as a serious descriptive term for a while now :P

Hope Capcom aren't scared enough to exclude Alex(due to new hogan racist crap) in SFV if they had plans to include him in the first place.

IF Alex was getting into the base roster, I feel its too late to change anything about that. It's not just character models/animations/etc. they would have to change (to say nothing of making new stuff if they had to swap in a new character) but a whole bunch of marketing material too, etc.

Except for Bebop. Bebop is not enjoyable.

I...I prefer FV5 Vanessa >.>

So I bought Xrd while I was bored waiting for the SFV beta to work last night. After watching Xrd at NWM and EVO I've wanted to get into it. This is my first GG, what are the go-to resources to learn?

I guess dustloop.com is the standard answer. I mean for the older characters its fine, since there are enough of the entrenched dedicated players to do all the heavy lifting and gather information for you. Its slightly more rough for the new characters as there might or might not be a person who is willing to put in the work to write up all the information for them and keep it updated.

Personally I just went through the challenges for the characters that were interesting to see what they can do. The challenges actually seem to aim to give you some basic idea of what the characters combos and strings are, and what they can do in some situations. Missions kind of help out with some basic ideas as to what can happen in the game in terms of moving around, attacking, defending, fighting certain types of characters.

The best resource is probably the video threads, since they just skim Mikado streams or whatever else for the more experienced japanese players. Those will really help you get an idea of what the character can do and how they play. Because that's the one thing that none of the tutorials in the game teach, and the wiki/threads dont convey all that well is how the game actually flows when going with a specific character.

Then again maybe I am entirely wrong, because this is my first GG game, and I am terrible at it, and I still complain about my character choice.

Wait, so people believe Alex might not get in SF5 because of Hulk Hogan?

What is the big deal about Alex? I didn't see the big deal about him in 3rd Strike. Urien is better choice. Guy looks like he would be a monster with V-Skills and Aegis CA.

Xrd has a really good tutorial mode and the mission mode goes over game mechanics and some common situations, the challenge mode is also decent for combo ideas. Find a character by going through the in-game stuff, then go on dustloop.

Alex is distinctive enough (especially in facial features) that no one's going to make a connection to Hulk Hogan.

The only reason people do so is because of the shirt ripping intro animation and the special one with Hugo.

It also seems pretty stupid to me to exclude a character because he has a few references to someone who said some racist stuff just recently.

Of course there's no proof that they are even considering this at all so it's nothing to worry about.

Tekken, Smash, Persona, Xrd were all in that room, along with all the exhibitor booths and the MCZ stage. Idk how much of Marvel was in there, I do know top 16 was at one of the sidestream stations in there (I think Mando's?)
All the Marvel pools were squished into a little spot in the back of that ballroom, a bit behind the SF5 setups. It was pretty cramped. Very tough to watch or play any matches.

I may have said this already.

but all of you should watch ping pong the animation.

captures the competitive spirit so fuckin well

Masaaki yuasa is amazing everything he touches is gold.Anime needs more folks like him with unique ideas.

Sorry to keep the anime discussion going but I just saw shinsekai yori: from the new world and it was beautiful. So heavy

all i learned from this was to breathe more oxygen and get back to basics

The hypest breathing you'll ever see.

Yes, everyone should watch Hajime no ippo. Sort of a task with the amount of episodes, but it's fantastic.

Yeah i agree with the episode thing.
There isn't enough with them.

Still waiting for that ASW Jojo fighter. Ultimax is cool but i would prefer Jojo. Like it more as a jrpg.
Forgive me carebear.

Ultimax is my favorite fightung game, but I'd easily throw it in the garbage for a jojo fighting game by ASW.

Guys watch Haikyuu.

Marvel fans should watch Kuroko no Basket.

Anyone who likes shonen battle stories and good character drama should watch Kuroko

Seriously the show has some of my favorite characters in a long, long time. Akashi is a Dessler (Yamato) tier adversary.

Ace of the Diamond is the best sports anime in terms of being the best representation of the topic.

haikyuu is dope

added to my queue, heard a lot about this

Demo-sama has moderately fine taste

I may have said this already.

Ping Pong is so good. SO GOOD.

What about Slam Dunk tho

So, what's the closest anime out there to a true Fighting Game centered anime? Would it be GBF?

apparently high score girl is getting an anime so...it would be this.

Watched both and they are real fun.
Major is still my fav sports anime and it's good in very different ways compared to the rest of the sports anime.
Covers the life of the protag from very young till well into adulthood over 5 seasons i believe.

Yeah. You would still have the jrpgs but Jojo has nothing. That ASB game was not good and the new one isn't a regular fighting game.

I disagree. While it had problems at the beginning of its life cycle regarding balancing issues, the patches that it has currently make it a pretty novel and fun game. The joys of learning to taunt cancel moves is pretty great. The only major hits I would give it is that some characters were hilariously underpowered (Valentine), the frame rate took a shit in several stages, and the battle system needed more damage. A bit more speed would help as well.

Yeah. Seriously it's not even about ping pong. Could be called FGC The Animation, just think of players you know and there's probably at least one character in the show that shares things with them in terms of how they approach games or the reasons they have to compete.

I made the mistake of importing and getting it at it's worst. It had horrible framerate and the pace was way too slow. There were unblockables from taunt set up aswell after knock downs. I did enjoy the fan service alot tho and there was plenty of free dlc with characters every week. Fought one japanese Enrico Pucci that did some impossiblle stuff. Juggled me for what felt like forever and i never beat a Johnny unless i used weird tactics. The netcode was horrible aswell but that might have been cos no one near me was playing. You are right as in most of my issues are due to getting it early.

I don't blame you because the beginning of the game's lifecycle (and a lot of the middle because balancing...) was terrible. A lot of it was absolutely gamebreaking and really the only people defending the game are people who were stubborn enough to stick with a broke ass game.

I am super cynical about eyes of heaven now too. CC2 needs to stay away from Jojo and stick to Naruto that they are good at.

Eyes of Heaven looks like garbage. I'm glad that they revamped a lot of it but it doesn't look good at all. Not even the introduction of Diego (or F.F.) will get me to buy the game day 1.
CC2 is really good at fanservice (ASB is unparalleled with the amount of love poured into it), but they really need to stop messing around with combat or get a better company to work with the gameplay segment.

They are masters with the fanservice ripping panels from the manga like that and making them into moves for ASB. Wish EOH got a different dev tho. I wouldn't mind a 90s beat em up brawler.
F.F got in? That's pretty nice. I might cave if i see Weather Report or Ringo Roadagain tho. I'll atleast watch some vids if the game turns to be shit.

So, what's the closest anime out there to a true Fighting Game centered anime? Would it be GBF?

Well Hajime no Ippo is a boxing anime so that's as close as you're gonna get to a fighting game centered anime without it being an actual fighting game anime adaptation.

I hear the Blazblue anime was terrible.

Yeah. You would still have the jrpgs but Jojo has nothing. That ASB game was not good and the new one isn't a regular fighting game.

ASB is pretty good. I'd never take it seriously as a fighting game, but get some Jojo fans together in the same room and there's a ton of fun to be had.

I've been playing the demos and with this new demo Eyes of Heaven is a fun single player game for JoJo fans. ASB wasn't even fun in single player.
