Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Tomb Raider is only a little better than Golden Abyss. Maybe. And GA was pretty lame.

Playing Golden Abyss for the first time, enjoying it a lot. On the other hand... couldn't stand Tomb Raider 2013. Might give it another try some other time but... it just felt like a poor man's Uncharted.

Kingdom Hearts is nowhere near a perfect game and is hard carried by the disney license, without that you are left with the forgettable gameplay (first game especially), sterile environments (1 especially, but 2 is still pretty bad in this regard), and nonsensical story. I enjoyed much of my time with every KH game I've personally played (1.5&2.5) , but it shouldn't be anybody's GOAT.

Smash 4 isn't a very good game. They removed more advanced mechanics from Brawl, and because of the frame data and shield, it feels near impossible to adapt your strategy after a certain point and as a result, competitive play doesn't feel fun as a result.

Also, Halo CE is the worst of the series. Very repetitive (I played it in 2010 after Halo 3, Reach, ODST).
It's repetitive but it's still the best by far. No Halo sequel lived up to the promise that CE had... after that they removed any emergent gameplay and made it much more linear.

I think Smash, on the whole, aren't very good games. Sometimes they can be fun if you have some crazy multiplayer party brawler moments, but I will never understand why anyone wanted to shoehorn it into something competitive or where the entertainment comes from in that scene -- but people seem to like it. I'm still a bit salty that it took up 3 hours of EVO's championship Sunday and pushed KI top 8 to Saturday night, but not much I can do about that. :P

Well, GA was better than Uncharted 2, so at least Tomb Raider is still better than Uncharted 2 by your logic. ;)

Oh boy I suppose I have a number of relevant things.

1.) FFXIII is in the top 5 Final Fantasy games and a great game
2.) Tomb Raider 2013 is a better game than Uncharted
3.) Resident Evil 5&6 were both great games
4.) FFVIII > FFIX > FFVII

1) I agree completely!! Actually enjoyed the game a lot!

2) It is better than 1 and 3 for sure!!
3) I agree
4) And you lost me....FF 8 is a chore for me.

On the topic of FFXIII, since someone mentioned it being good and people agreeing, this isn't so controversial I guess, but...I hate how people tell me how low quality XIII was...and haven't even played it.

Get outta here punk.

Final Fantasy VII isn't even in the top 5 best Final Fantasy games. Neither is X.

Actually, it's pretty easy to find what I consider the top 5. Take the main series games starting with the SNES. Remove the games that Nojima wrote. Remove the games that Toriyama directed. You're left with the 5 best Final Fantasy games.

And how Nomura keeps getting work baffles me.

Oh, and Other M was fun.

2D Mega Man is better than 2D Mario.
All Sonic games are bad, including the Genesis ones.
Speaking of the Genesis, it's a mediocre console at best.

Microsoft tends to publish more enjoyable games than Sony. In fact, I would rank it Nintendo, Microsoft, then in a distant 3rd Sony when it comes to publishing games.

I really, really dislike Pokemon. Its strange because I don't hate turn based games in general (Paper Mario TTYD is godlike, I'm playing the new DBZ mobile game right now which is turn based). Everything about Pokemon seems like something fun to me, monsters to collect, RPG stats, interesting battle system... but once I actually start playing it, it just feels like such a chore. I hate grinding random battles and it is just boring to run around mashing a to attack as much as you can. I don't know what happened because I demolished Red as a kid, but now I can't play it at all.

Pokemon sucks now, but I'm playing through leaf green now and it's amazingggg
Got charmeleon, Pikachu, and pidgey atm

Liking Tomb Raider 2013 more than all of the Uncharted games isn't really controversial. They're all very high quality and I could understand anyone preferring any of them.

However, I've never liked Final Fantasy VIII. I haven't played XIII at all, but I don't understand what people see in VIII. Squall is a dick, the story is nonsense, the side characters are all really bland and it just seemed to hit all the wrong notes for me.

In terms of first party, I agree with this.

Although I loved TLOU and Horizon looks really cool.
Honestly I find it the complete reverse myself. Though I think this is more because I can't stand shooters in general so most of the MS heavy hitters do literally nothing for me, while Sony tends to be more varied and has more options generally available between titles. Sure they got their boring shooters in Killzone or parts of Uncharted, but it's easy to find something completely different like say Ratchet and Clank or Heavy Rain or say Bloodborne to fill the other sorts of quotas if you're more into that sort of thing.

Nintendo I tend to find heavily lacking in interesting, much less actually progressive stories, so even when the gameplay itself is amazing like say Super Mario Galaxy, I rapidly lose interest in continuing since there's going to be no real payoff at any point.

Which isn't always the case, occasionally they do do something with a more interesting plot involved, Paper Mario in particular I was a big fan of till they started getting shoddier, but needless to say it's significantly rarer for them to come out with something that isn't barebones in plot to put it mildly.

Which is why my chart generally goes Sony>Nintendo>Microsoft in terms of first party IP that interest me, generally anyway.

Hopefully this shakes up a bit down the line, want to see what that Quantum Break game shapes up as and Scalebound could be promising, but we've seen so little of those it's hard to say for sure. And I'm already not liking what little we saw of that lead in scalebound (doubly so after what happened with Sunset Overdrive) so who knows how that'll turn out.

My get to go controversial opinion is that golden age of gaming ended with Sony.

2D Mega Man is better than 2D Mario.
All Sonic games are bad, including the Genesis ones.
Speaking of the Genesis, it's a mediocre console at best.

As an huge Megaman fan I can tell you this isn't true at all.
Super Mario Bros. (and most of all, bros. 3) is a deep game, while Megaman is straightforward trial and error. Mario gave you freedom that Megaman couldn't even reach.
Mario had top notch physics and much more content. In Mario 3 you can have 2 players and a little Vs. mode also.
We all love robot masters and such but there's no way Megaman could beat Mario.

Also your opinion on Sonic could change if you scrap that mediocre Genesis and play Sonic 3 & Knukles on PC.

I think those players that only plays Triple A titles but dismiss small indie titles are not true gamers.

It's like someone calling himself a 'movie enthusiasts' but only watch hollywood summer blockbuster and dismiss other indie films.

Fallout 5 looks like the worst looking open world game this generation and I can't stand the argument "It's Bethesda, what did you expect?"

The most turn off are the animations and faces of the characters. Also, Fallout New Vegas is dope, while Fallout 3 has a good first hour.

Skyrim is the most overrated game last generation when it comes to RPGs.

Edit: It's early in the morning, I meant Fallout 4.

you must be from the future.

I have a big problem with indies. They all look boring to me and I don't know why. Sometimes I recognize that a game is indie because of the boringness wibe they give me. Indies have a lack of charm that I really can't explain.

A friend forced me into Braids once. I was like "dude, are you making me play an hipster DK94?"

I agree. Generally speaking, it seems Sony invests more in single player experiences, while MS in multiplayer experiences. I love a good SP game, but MP really is my bread and butter nowadays.

Here we go.

Uncharted Drakes Fortune is the best Uncharted of the trilogy

Battlefield Hardline is the best Battlefield

I would have rather seen that AGENT still exists rather than TLG.

I've been underwhelmed by next gen so far

The Last of Us was a great game but highly overrated

Although The Last of Us is really great story-wise, it uses some really shitty tropes. One in particular: How many fucking times can I walk through a doorway and get ambushed by some dude?

And Naughty Dog needs to step it up when it comes to developing gameplay. I got little enjoyment out of playing their entire PS3 library. Aiming a gun at somebody has never been so frustrating. They need to take aiming control tips from Gears of War or Max Payne 3. Clunkiest third-person shooters I've ever played. The Last of Us did better, but not good enough. Melee was pretty fun tho.

End of confesison. :3

I think Bethesda's worlds are pretty fucking boring to be honest, with Fallout 3's DC And Skyrim at at the top. People keep going on and on about how their games aren't really about the gameplay when you criticise that area of their games, or the story or the dialogue or whetever else and that it's all about the exploration but I've never found exploring their worlds to be anything but a drag.
When you've seen one Draugr cave you've seen all of them.

Finally can post!

FF12 is the best FF imo.

Not looking forward to FF7 remake at all. Overrated.

I hate moogles and chocobos. Moombas and tonberry/berries all the way.

Mario sunshine > mario 64

Dragon Quest 7 >>> 1-9

Star Ocean 2 is the best PS1 rpg of all time.

Digimon Battle Card is a good game. Better than Yu-Gi-Oh (not saying its bad). Make the sequel please.

Bulbasaur real #1 >>> Other 719 pokemon >>> Charizard >>>>>>>>>>>>> Luvdisc
Though Gen 5 is the best.

Lastly, Megamen Battle and Chase > Some Mario Karts and Crash Team Race. Inb4 MBC spiritual successor (Please).

Honorable mention: Halo is a lot more fun
by not playing it.
I love GOW though very much.

I just tried to give Wolfenstein: The New Order a second playthrough chance, but it's just as irritating as the first time around. The gameplay and gunplay itself feels pretty damn good but I find everything else about it annoying and a barricade to just letting me enjoy shooting shit.

I personally can't deal with constantly being interrupted and told what to do and this game truly knew when to kill my fun every single time things got going for me.

In the end, I actually enjoyed the previous installment much more.

I've got plenty:

The Last of Us is vastly overrated, and a big step down from the Uncharted series.

Half-Life 2 is vastly overrated and was outdone by several other FPSs that were out around that time.

Warrior Within is the best Prince of Persia by some margin.

Splinter Cell in its Conviction/Blacklist form is the best it's ever been.

Tomb Raider (2013) is one of the best games of all time. Better even than any of the (also fantastic) Uncharted games.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is amazing and one of the best FPS games of the last few years, at least.

Sunset Overdrive was shit

Arkham Origins > Arkham City

Dark Souls II >>> Dark Souls

Metroid: Other M was good

Now those are quite the opinions you have there!

Gaming died when developers stopped making the side scrolling co-op brawler.

Forever will I wait for the next Guardian Heroes, Captain Commando, Alien vs Predator, and Streets of Rage... The loves of my gaming life.

-The mission structure in Destiny is so hopeless shitastic and repetitive that I wonder how people have played and enjoyed for as long as they have. And this is coming from someone who avidly plays MMOrpgs-the king of repetitive. To each there own, but I just cannot imagine playing it for any length of time for that long. Its the worst elements of an MMO concentrated to its most basic form.

-I'm happy for the fans, but I have pretty much zero interest in an FF7 Remake and was kind of disappointed that it was the center of attention at E3.

-The PSN service was better quality when it was free. Now all we have is constant maintenance and outages.

-Because I'm so fatigued from the first person perspective there's a high chance I probably won't be getting the next Fallout regardless of how good it is, and the same goes for CoD and any other FPS.

-The Witcher series has probably some of the most mechanically and aesthetically boring combat I have ever seen in an RPG and rivals Skyrim for sheer boredom. The story really isn't doing it for me either. The witchers are basically dark ages jedi's and it does nothing for me.

-FFXIV has its high moments for me, but this'll probably be the last MMO I ever play at this rate if MMOs don't start doing new things. I'm just not feeling the "WoW" model anymore and this game features a lot of things pioneered by WoW.

My opinion in current gen:

Don't like Xbox exclusives and MS in general - they seem aimless with no clear vision. They have to moneyhat constantly rather than innovate and entice devs to their console (just look at the parity clause etc). The games consist of mostly the same games from 10 years ago. More dudebro like Gears, Halo, Forza and now Titanfall. The worst thing about it all is that none of these games were very good in the first place imo. They were just boring.
The UI is just bad on XB1. Slow confusing and messy. Put it this way with a gamerscore of 400k I haven't switched on my XB1 in two months. Never gets used. If it had more appealing games I'd use it but it really doesn't and looks like that won't change either. I'm not excited about Halo 5, Crackdown, Scalebound.
ReCore and Quabtum Break seem interesting but that's two games I'm excited about in what will be 3 years eventually. Don't care much about power differences but that doesn't help with multiplats either,

PS - has a lot of games I play and love. Yakuza, indie games, jrpgs. Uncharted is much more appealing than Tomb Raider for me. I feel Sony try and innovate more with their games such as Last Guardian, Journey, God of War, SotC, Horizon, Last of Us, Puppeteer. None of these types of games exist anywhere else. It's all about the games and I absolutely love the PS3/4/Vita for this reason alone. They have a lot of protagonists which are memorable too like Kratos and characters from ND. Even the more niche titles are fantastic. Like Steins Gate currently playing this and didn't even know games like this existed on Vita until recently, I'm totally engrossed in it.

On the other hand they're not resurrecting their back catalog of great games and need to do more. Crash Bandicoot, Onimusha, Jak, Suikoden, Valkyrrie Profile etc all need new games or reboots.

Also the PSN has some fantastic sales and deals but the service goes down too often and the speeds aren't great. This needs fixing as its letting them down.

The battle system and gameplay in general is terrible in Earthbound

People really like the humor/characters/story aspect but I can't get down with a game that has bad gameplay.

Battle system is kinda annoying and dated but I've played Dragon Quest before so it didn't bother me too much.

Bulbasaur real #1 >>> Other 719 pokemon >>> Charizard >>>>>>>>>>>>> Luvdisc
Though Gen 5 is the best.

My boy.
