I don't know guys. I thoroughly enjoyed stuff like Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and Taken 3. I think I'm gonna watch this one.

I know it's going to be terrible, but I was hoping that the special effects are at least good. I'll probably see it in 3D because video games.

My 8 year old son wants to see this so bad becasue...pacman..

I just can't do it...does that make me a horrible father?
Take the kid. It's not about the movie itself but his memory with his dad. Also, who doesn't like seeing their kid happy. If something as simple as a movie will do that then go man.

I saw Pixels Tuesday night at an advance screening (in 3D). I went in knowing it would probably be awful and didn't expect to like it much at all. However, video games being a huge part of my life and growing up in the '80s really helped me enjoy the movie more than I anticipated. Now, don't get me wrong, the overall film isn't great and there are so many plot holes that your head will spin. However, if you go into it just to enjoy the ride and throw reasoning out the window, I think you can have a decent time.

I was surprised how many times I chuckled and outright laughed at some of the craziness throughout the show. Maybe a packed theater with others laughing was contagious? I probably wouldn't pay full price to see this, but maybe a cheap matinee or if your theater has a $5 movie night or something it's not the worst movie you could see.

I will say I enjoyed the 3D in this movie. The pixelization of objects into cubes looked pretty awesome with the layered effects. Kids might enjoy the movie as well, but there is a bit of light profanity throughout the movie. Overall, I had a fun time. I liked it more than Super Mario Bros. The Movie - so there's that ringing endorsement.

I'm not sure if I would suggest it for kids, though maybe i'm just out of touch with what kids may get. They won't get the majority of the 80's references and yeah... lots of swear words being the punchline. lazy.

They'll definitely like the action/visual stuff though.

The kids in my theatre ate it up.

Adam Sandler seal of quality

Maybe I don't get that brand of american humor but I just can't understand why that guy is a thing

Adam Sandler makes cheap movies that make their money and then some.

He's gonna keep getting deals until it ends.

Apparently, his friends are part of his production company and he sees every project as just a fun time to hang out lol.

I have to wonder if Pixels will make money. It's a way higher budget project than his usual fare, but doesn't seem to be attracting a bigger audience. There's also a bit less star power in this than his usual type of project - meaning the pull doesn't quite reach 'Grown Ups 2' levels. They seem to be banking on nostalgia for the characters, but most of that demographic has a highly negative opinion of Sandler.

It's on track for a $25M opening on an $88M budget - might not even make that back.

I didn't even know this was a Sandler movie. Is his name not on the posters on purpose?

I'm not sure where you're from, but he's been prominently plastered all over the commercials for this for like 4-5 months in the US. They were advertising regularly during the NBA Finals.

Not sure about posters though, maybe they don't have his name, I haven't looked.

"Remember when this guy was in good movies?"

Not really....

He had some really solid comedies towards the end of the '90s.

The problem is he stuck to their formula, with the angry manchild, and removed what made them work.

I have to admit, though. I liked Little Nicky. The absurd bits tipped the balance to the good side for me.

IMDB said its budget was $110 million. In any case, the fact it might not make its money back should send the sign that if you want to make a movie featuring a ton of gaming icons, Wreck-it Ralph = the way to go, Pixels = noooooooooo.

Also was rewatching some Simpsons on FXX & I saw this part & couldn't help but think about how it summarizes Pixels' "humor":

Wedding Singer is good fun, probably his best straight comedy. Maybe I was in a bad place at the time but I kinda enjoyed Click.

He is a thing because people like you watch his movies and therefore they often make money. If no one sees his movies they will stop and the world will be a better place for it*

* disclaimer, I really like him as a dramatic actor in Punch Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, and Spanglish. More of that and less of his nonsense with his unfunny friends would be nice.

Also, I don't understand how he does Funny People, which seems to be an indictment of what he has become and then afterwards he just returns to the same sort of nonsense. It's like he knows he's a terrible sell out hack, but can't help himself.

Well is not like you have a video game thematic movie every week. Besides I usually don't watch his movies at all.

My comment wasn't written well. I meant people, including you. I'm not blaming you for the blight that is Adam Sandler comedy.

So is Donkey Kong in the movie original Donkey Kong Cranky Kong (ugh) or is it Donkey Kong Country son of Cranky Kong Donkey Kong?

This is depressing.

Reign over me 20m Budget 22m Gross
Funny People 75m Budget 71m Gross

The two serious movies he did are among the lower grossing ones and were likely flops. Sadly I think it's too late for Sandler to break away from his typecast. His fans want stupid fun clearly.

Don't peg that crap on my country. Sandler is in no way an American mascot.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.

This sentence is so much fun to read.

I didn't mean it that way, The US has awesome comedians, Luis CK, Stewart, Doug Stanhope, Zak... etc

Somehow Sandler is a comercial success.

I suppose is the equivalent of actually having great US musicians living in obscurity, meanwhile Taylor Swift and Kaney West are always selling zillions.

Gotcha, no worries.

He's the Marvel of comedy. No idea why he's hated so much on Gaf. He has a formula and repeats it ad nauseam.
Stupid comparison. If Marvel movies were insultingly bad and hated by most critics, you'd have an equivalent point.

"No idea why he's hated so much on Gaf."

It helps if you read people's opinions on why.

It blows my mind Adam Sandler is still famous and making movies that turn a profit, but I guess it serves as good reminder to those of faith that we are indeed living in hell on earth or at least approaching the end times..
