Shocking News. Adams Sandlers newest film (Pixels) sucks.

This would be just as bad without Sandler right?
It might not even exist without him, I think, it's his production after all. Maybe it would be less dumb and more nothing? I don't know, I haven't seen it and I don't care to. I have family who loves his schtick, so if I'm not hearing about how funny this movie is I'm going end up unwittingly stumbling into watching it in glimpses as I did with Jack and Jill. God, that was miserable.

RT score is up to 19/59 (critic/user) so its not his worst
Jack and Jill RT is 3/39 for comparison.

Actually, going by RT critic scores, the following Adam Sandler films are all worse than Pixels
I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
Blended
Eight Crazy Nights
The Cobbler
Grown Ups
Bulletproof
Mixed Nuts
Grown Ups 2
Jack and Jill

One thing that the movie did that bothered me a lot was
the dog from duckhunt was a trophy, uh that came out in 1984, not 1982 which apparently was when they sent up the games to the aliens. They didn't even bother to get that right , just look up the info I mean damn.

He is a thing because people like you watch his movies and therefore they often make money. If no one sees his movies they will stop and the world will be a better place for it*

* disclaimer, I really like him as a dramatic actor in Punch Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, and Spanglish. More of that and less of his nonsense with his unfunny friends would be nice.

Also, I don't understand how he does Funny People, which seems to be an indictment of what he has become and then afterwards he just returns to the same sort of nonsense. It's like he knows he's a terrible sell out hack, but can't help himself.
Preach, funny people and punch drunk are great.

It already existed before he came along. Someone else would have tried to adapt the short film if Sandler hadn't.

It would take a script rewrite, but I feel like this movie could've been solid with another comedic team behind it. Get the Lonely Island guys, the dudes from Workaholics - really anybody other than Sandler's troupe of morons. Visually it's clever and has some fun set pieces, but it's all at the mercy of Sandler's piss-poor style.

What was the last good movie Dicklage was in?

Frank Oz's Death at a Funeral (and no, not the remake one)?

Really, most of Adam Sandler movies are just part of his big scheme to get money. High budget movies with 0 production value whatsoever.

My issue with Adam Sandler's movies is that the humor is so effortless and low key they just all blend in. Adam Sandler doesn't do any real jokes and gags. His humor is basically, "Let's laugh at that guy because he's gay!" it's all based on stereotype shaming, race shaming, occupational shaming, you name it. All of his jokes are based on degrading people that isn't "normal" and therefor it's funny, and it's done in a way where it's easy to understand by mass audiences hence the money.

There isn't anything clever about his jokes. There isn't a point to it. It's just shaming people and being mean-spirited. Someone in this thread said Pixels is like Scott Pilgrim for assholes...but all of his movies are pretty much targeted towards assholes.

Which one? I can't guess film I haven't seen from a gif I don't recognise.

Scott Pilgrim, directed by Edgar Wright.

The one thing this movie really made me want is a parody of House of Cards starring Kevin James and Jane Krakowski. I want to know how James got elected POTUS, and I'm willing to bet Krakowski did most of the scheming.

Stupid comparison. If Marvel movies were insultingly bad and hated by most critics, you'd have an equivalent point.

My movie opinions are not based on critics. They both make insulting bad movies , with similar structures between them , pandering to their target groups. Hence , he is the Marvel of comedy. It's all shit. Even if its an adaptation of the property you like. Still shit.

Ant-Man was funnier than any Adam Sandler movie I've seen.

Haven't seen it.

"Marvel of comedy" still doesn't make sense as a comparison if you take critical opinion out of it. Just because two things have a formula, really? Adam Sandler is the found footage horror of comedy. It's a comparison that doesn't really say anything of value.

You know I just saw the movie with my nephew and I have to say screw the haters. The movie was hilarious and probably the best Sandler movie in a long time. Was the plot epic or something new? No but it was hilariously funny and actually a good movie. Probably helps that I grew up in the 80's and 90's. It brought back so many memories of being a kid.

I really think people who haven't seen it or won't just based on reviews are missing out.

Once every summer we take our kids to a drive-in not too far from our house. This past weekend was the first chance we've had to go and the double feature was Minions and Pixels. After reading all the reviews, I was dreading see it. Turns out, it wasn't horrible! Probably helped that I went in with the lowest possible expectations.

I can't believe people are saying "that's my
Boy" is hilarious. The premise of the movie was so awful it killed any potential funny.

It's not the only one,
they also used Tetris and I'm sure others I'm forgetting
let's pretend the aliens we never see also did some research or something.

As for the movie it was uh... Okay I guess certainly not the worst vacation time with friends movie he's ever made.

I enjoyed the early Adam Sandler movies. I don't know if it was because I was younger, because the older ones were better or both but Sandler hasn't made a decent flick in a decade.

Eh, I didn't find Funny People, Reign Over Me or even Click as unoriginal as it was to be that bad.

I saw Pixels Tuesday night at an advance screening (in 3D). I went in knowing it would probably be awful and didn't expect to like it much at all. However, video games being a huge part of my life and growing up in the '80s really helped me enjoy the movie more than I anticipated. Now, don't get me wrong, the overall film isn't great and there are so many plot holes that your head will spin. However, if you go into it just to enjoy the ride and throw reasoning out the window, I think you can have a decent time.

That's the key to enjoying his movies. They're fun to switch off to. It feels like the Adam Sandler hating bandwagon has grown and becone more vicious. I don't oppose criticizing his movies, because they aren't good, but I don't remember near the amount of bad press for his previous stinkers.
