Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Cannon Spike shouldnt have invincibility. Only Ryu should have DPs. :-D

Huh, considering how you feel about monster characters, I thought Birdie and Charlie would be your characters.
Birdie is just a fat black dude...

Charlie is hideous. My monsters are all beautiful. Also, he doesn't have an antiair. That drives me insane.

Yeah, same. Yesterday I had like between 15-20 matches, today I have yet to escape The Room™.
I have gotten 2 matches all of today. Booted during one. Which is weird, because this stuff should be P2P. :p

After playing a bit of BBCPE I just realized how much I miss its lobby system. GGXrd's lobby system is a complete downgrade in my opinion.

In GGXrd you have to jump from 8 person lobby to 8 person lobby hoping that there's an available spot and you don't have to wait.

With BBCP's lobby system it's setup like an arcade that can hold up to 64 people with tons of arcade cabs littered around the room. So I can just join and easily find an empty cab spot to play someone on, no waiting for other people to finish and there's no host to mess up other people's games when they disconnect or leave the room.

Yeah, I just sort of had Arcana Heart 3 Love Max lying around as part of the pile. It was in the Flash sale recently. Decided to play that playing card character Dorothy today after seeing neat stuff at EVO.

Damn was I surprised at how much tech is in the system. Dash cancel combos, homing dash pressure/mixups, crazy as hell Xfactor/Baroque stuff...and damn the card tricks Dorothy has. If she throws out and has 5 cards at once they do stuff depending on what kind of hand she had! Considering the speed of her meter gain and that her Air lvl 1 super throws 3 and her basic air projectile throws 3 I'd put down three in front, 3 behind, they'd shoot up and then I'd go low with a trap card slid under them and go for overheads. Just a fucking MACHINE for mixups. Plus them high low cane twirls were pretty great because if you popped a trap card behind them and pressured them into it they were super screwed.

Man I wish this game wasn't about lolis. :(
Still in shock to find out another type of X-factor existed that both had Baroque style limitations in that it ends when the combo ends and that you could customize the bonus by equipping Arcana. Pretty good shit there.

Also I really hope another title rips off that homing dash + dash cancel system. It is phenomenal. This is how a DBZ fighting game should play honestly.

Arcana Heart definitely has some unique ideas. I only spent a short while with the game but the arcana card system was really cool along with the Homing Dash.

Cr. HP for far AA, Cr. MP for close AA. S.HK for far. Then there's air throw.

AAs with invincibility or reversals? Nope.

Do you get kicked off the cabinet when you lose? I hate getting booted back in Xrd lobbies.

Those AA aren't nearly as good as Bison or Ryu's. They are Blanka tier AAs. ComboFiend even said it is his weakness.

Q - try this with Cammy please:

In corner AA CC s.HK, b+HP, vtrigger, cannon drill under. Can that hit as a cross under when they land?

Looks like you really can't change characters
.Infilratration is running into the same problem I did. I had to restart and back trying to get back in.

Yeah but you can just press X to get back on again.

Rarely will anyone try to contest your spot on a cab.

In Xrd since there's only 8 people in a lobby so there is pretty much always someone lining up behind you to play.

BBCP's lobbies are 64 player rooms so the chances of that happening are really low. It's faster to just find an empty cab spot then to try and camp an occupied cab. It is a much better experience for people who just want to get in and find a quick person to do matches with.

There are still player rooms if you want to do that kind of thing, but when I just want to play I go to the arcade lobbies. I vastly prefer it to GGXrd's system which ended up turning me off from playing the game for a good number of months until I played a bit of it again due to EVO hype.

Cr.MP and Cr.HP are pretty damn good from my experience. VR being his main reversal option is the bigger problem.

TE2 and HRAP 4/5. You could also padhack it with DualShock 4 or Fighting Commander 4.

Also PSA: If you have a PS4 controller, try using it on the PS3 in PS4 mode. If it works, you'll probably get 6-7ms less input lag because the PS4 mode reports a higher poll rate.

Thanks for the suggestions. What's the difference between the HRAP Hayabusa and Kai?

I stated that Cammy was going to be my pick for SFV going into the game.

She is IMO what a strong character in SFV is. Fast, aggressive, explosive, can go around fireballs with her V-Skill, doesn't zone herself etc.
I haven't gotten my hands on SFV yet but I know I'm going to love the fact that I don't have to do a motion to do spin knuckle + the fact that it comes out faster.

Anyone know what her anti air options are in SFV?

I think you can edit the lobby setting to make the game ask if you want a rematch after each battle.
Never works for me. :-/

Guess we'll be fighting a Cammy army at launch...
Still 9 more characters left to reveal. Who knows what will come out. People will split up. Game isn't balanced yet.

Much of the cast has no reversal option at all. ;-)

Ryu is the worse character. Needs a lot of his SFIV stuff.
I'd rather they give him one of the very few invincible reversals in the game. Then he would stand out on that merit alone while staying a newbie character.

no ryu juggle

ryu cant special cancel his fierce?

theres also no chip damage in this game right? or am i delusional.

It's the other way around. Specials chip and all normals chip via grey recoverable damage. You can't however KO on chip damage as far as I know (someone said super move chip may still KO but I haven't seen it yet). Blocking a string of normals is actually pretty serious pressure in this game because of how easy it is to build stun as well as the grey life you can lose.

MP DP is still invincible, isn't it?

BTW, you can mess around with the training options by hitting the triggers. So you can have the dummy block, depleating health bar, etc.

What I mean is that I want him to have the only DP. Or make it very rare. I like that Nash, Bison, and Birdie have no invincible reversal options. Chun-li has to spend meter for hers, which is okay. I'd like to see Cammy's gone as well.

There's really nothing wrong with invincible reversals.

Most of the cast having them, and having a way to make them safe is pretty brain dead, but nobody having them means the aggressor gets to abuse dumb shit on your wake-up all day with no good way to challenge.

If they're all hard commitments, having them is fine.

Oh yeah, Birdie's...j.MK? It is an instant overhead on standing opponents.

I am not a fan of them.

I am not a fan of them.

I can see that, but I'm afraid the lack of them just buffs vortex play.

"Just block" is fine to say, but if the mix-up is completely ambiguous, you're playing rock paper scissors and you don't get to use scissors.

Especially in this game where one combo can basically stun and mean certain death.

There's no vortex play when a game almost completely lacks hard knockdowns.

It isn't just about vortex play. It's about stuff like mashing DP in hopes that your opponent drops a combo. Everyone knows wakeup ultras are dumb; wakeup DP is just as dumb. Make people block.

There's no real vortex play but it's still a game that heavily rewards offense. You get the hit into a combo and then suddenly the other player is in a bad situation where the next wrong guess could mean game over.

If you block too much the pressure adds up over time through the chip damage and more stun build up. There's no invincible back dash either. Throw tech window is smaller and throws add quite a lot of stun. And then you add that there are few invincible options in the game. Only thing that is keeping offense from being totally out of control are the V-Reversal options.

In the couple of matches I played, I was basically looking at my stun meter more than my life. Players aren't very good right now but there was still a huge snowball element to the game.

This is why a character like Cammy is naturally strong in this game.

So happy to see infiltration blowing up in stream numbers been enjoying him on twitch for a while now.

He is funny as fuck.

Love how rush down heavy SFV is feels awesome to apply fuck tons of pressure on people. Thank you Combofiend for no more turtle fighter 4. <3 Though I will say Alpha counter should be used more if you feel under the pump since you build bar very fast in this.

I had a feeling that my time tonight was going to be better-spent learning about KOF2002UM and exploring May Lee combos than it would fighting with the SFV beta and its 21007 errors. Seeing as I'm still not hearing about any Canadians getting in, I'm glad I went with my hunch.

Hopefully they let us into the "North American beta" tomorrow!

people are going to learn what's unsafe and block gimmicks easily after a while. offense will be ok in the long run I think.
