Halo MCC Playlist Popularity, Ordered by Population

Not going to lie, can't go back to Halo 3. Feels so slow. Like walking through molasses. Halo 2 anniversary plays great, something feels off about regular 2.

I find myself in Halo 4 when I'm on MCC. But the map rotation with the voting system means I'm usually only playing 3 or 4 maps, TS or LTS always.

Seems to be a huge disconnect between hard core halo players and people who are just casually playing..

In this community the hard core seem to be unwelcoming of anything modern, don't know how that will help the community grow

It's the gift and the curse....

The burden of maintaining a franchise with massive appeal, but the masses find it appealing for vastly different reasons...

For example Halo2 marked a huge shift from Halo:CE...there was a pretty sizeable backlash against it from hardcore fans at launch, but that was overshadowed by outstanding support from casuals AND other hardcore fans. The exact same thing happened with Halo Reach. And now we're learning that many people currently prefer H4...

With such a large fan base that has always struggled to find a consensus on what make Halo, Halo, I wouldn't want to be in 343i's shoes..

The hardcore can't even agree with each other, let alone invite anything 'modern'..

MCC's iteration of Halo 4 is surprisingly good, so this isn't terribly too shocking in that regard. Most gametypes have no Armor Abilities or Perks, so really you're left with a solid FPS with some poorly designed maps.

Halo 3 being as high up as it is is strange considering it's Halo 2 but bad. Halo 2 being as low as it is is also strange.

Though I myself rarely venture out of Team Slayer, BTB, H2A (for the novelty) and H:CE.

This guy knows what's up. Never understood why people preferred 3 to 2. Equipment was useless/annoying and a precursor to the load out stuff that everyone hates. H2 still has the best maps of the series.

Interesting replies here. It's especially revealing that some people say that BTB queue times are long when they are not. It also shouldn't be a surprise that BTB has the largest population because it's always been high in every Halo game. My only beef with the Halo 4 maps is the fact that they are terribly designed (as were reaches).

H3 was a lot of people's first halo MP experience.... The simple map structure, and the fact that you spawned with the only gun you'll ever need makes it pretty inviting...

I prefer H2 because the maps were brilliant, and I liked the way teams had to coordinate to re supply teammates when they respawned. But I can understand why some might prefer the more streamlined approach in H3.

For me, Halo 4 playlist is only for party play with xbox friends. I always stick to H:CE or Team Slayer playlist.

While everyone in xbox friends on my account loves Halo 4, I'm only one who doesn't like halo 4 because of loadout system and sprint without any penalty. (And That's why I love Halo 5 though.)

Halo 4 is high up for the same reason shipment was the most popular COD 4 map, many players on small maps.

I can't play 5v5 on skyline, monolith, or haven again. Exile is fun but that is the only big map in the playlist and it is the least common by far.

...but they are. BTB search times range anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes for me and more depending on how many people I'm with.

Ugh at Halo 4 being #3.

Expected Halo 1 to be low. Every time I get into that game in Team Slayer, the people run around as if they've never played Halo 1 before.

Yeah I approve of Halo 4 @ #3. Solid game. It has some problems for sure, but it still plays really well, IMO.

CE multiplayer is just off for me...

Doesn't surprise me that H4 is so high. Out of the gate it was the best performing of the bunch. Legendary Slayer is really good. The 6 maps killed H2A, it never had a chance. It also still has inconsistent kill times. I think you have a better shot at lone wolfing in 4 as well. You come up against a good team in H3 and you are hosed.

Where is Frank? I just defended Halo 4.

I love Halo 3 just as much as anyone else, but man the hit detection in that game is awful.

When Halo 4 gets voted for I sometimes just want to throw my Xbox out the window. Especially when it gets voted for over maps that get picked once in a blue moon like Headlong or Waterworks.

Halo 4 being so high makes sense, considering all the maps and everything even to my dismay. I'm all about Halo 2 MP even with all the repeats.

Well the MCC version completely lacks ordnance drops and includes weapons on map now. That change alone has massively improved the game.

That happened months after Halo 4 released it seems like you are talking about team slayer which does not have PODs and some weapons on maps.

Two had the best maps, I can't stand 3 and after not playing halo for years, I prefer the gameplay from 4.

I find games faster when I join up with 4 as well I've noticed.

Most miserable game I've played in the MCC was on Waterworks. Whole team got spawntrapped in a CTF match. Total misery.

I will truly never understand how Halo 3 "feels slow"
It's like someone played the game once, realized you can't sprint, and then gave up.

That's exactly what I said, I'm pretty sure the MCC version has always been like that though.

Well it has the slowest movement speed made even worse by a very low FoV and very high average kill times.

That's what GAF and other forums would have you believe. The bulk of Halo players don't come to these places. They're too busy playing Halo 4. :p

Even though Halo 4's player base dropped exponentially faster than Reach (and don't throw around the bullshit "but more shooters!" argument when Reach held 100K solid for two years against Black Ops, Battlefield 3, and then MW3) and still sold worse than Halo 3 with an even larger install base on the 360.
It does feel slow, tho.

Narrow FoV + mild movespeed = slow-feeling game.

Guess I prefer the slower methodical tone of the game then since Halo 3 is my absolute favorite >.>

The FOV is extremely limited, and it feels like molasses while trying to move around. It just plays badly in that it did not age well.

BTB BTB BTB in the place to be

for some reason i said that a lot when playing halo 2 back in high school haha, love big team battle B^)

swat is also still fun

Halo 4 3rd? Disgusting.

Yo, Halo 4 is AWESOME in the MCC. They did such a great job reworking the match mechanics that it plays legit like a halo game should. Timed respawns, weapons placed on maps, and everything else just feels right. It got me a lot more hyped for Halo 5.

What's funny is that it is the same as the 360 version

People left the game before they saw the changes

Someone recently tried to tell me on here that BTB wasn't one of the most popular Halo playlists, and Rumble Pit was always more popular. Ha.

I was saying it seems like you were talking about the changes in MCC was when they made the changes on MCC, not when they already made the changes years ago on the original Halo 4 on the 360.

It seems like people think 343 changed Halo 4 on MCC when MCC came out, but it seems 343 just used an updated Halo 4 from 2013. Also if it is Team Slayer, they didn't get rid of OD entirely, they still have static ordinance drops. They got rid of personal ordinance drops that was in infinity slayer.

Halo 3 was the peak for me. I loved the methodical pace and balance minus the extraneous fluff that came after with Reach and 4. Everything just clicked.

I couldn't stomach 4 at all.

no it's own playlist. Team Slayer includes CE, 2, 2A, 3 and 4 and there is an actually separate Halo 4 playlist, both are different.

I've been playing the Team Slaver playlist and there literally isn't an option for Halo 4. It's just CE, 2, 2A, and 3. I don't know about the other playlists atm.

Really wish I had come to this game earlier (only got a 'Bone a few weeks ago). I guess it wouldn't have been working as well, but it'd be cool to play this with a ton of people, now there's a lot of sitting around waiting for matchmaking.

Mind blown, Jumper admits things change during development.

Its mindblowing that you dont know why i said this.

And i never said that there wont be any changes during any game development. But whatever makes you happy i guess. Back to ignoring you.

Haha Yep. Yes maybe H3 is a bit slower. But thats IMO good. Im really getting annoyed by all this fast paced crap nowadays. A jetpack here, a thruster there etc... Whats so bad about a more grounded and slower mp?

how do i reconcile this info with the halo 4 population drop off chart?

I can feel all the salt in this thread.

But I am really surprise that Aniversary
playlist is so low. I almost find matches instatly in that playlist

how do i reconcile this info with the halo 4 population drop off chart?

You don't, really.

Halo 4 launched at a different time to the others, in a much more crowded and CoD-dominated marketplace. Much of Halo 4's drop off was external factors, rather than people's distaste in comparison to other Halos. Despite what reading these sorts of threads would have you believe.
