Halo MCC Playlist Popularity, Ordered by Population

how do i reconcile this info with the halo 4 population drop off chart?

After the mass exodus from halo 4, 343i made a ton of changes that made it more like what people expect from halo MP. Many People who left (myself included) didn't know these changes happened until MCC. Other People who hadn't experienced it at all until MCC are getting a better first impression.

You don't, really.

Halo 4 launched at a different time to the others, in a much more crowded and CoD-dominated marketplace. Much of Halo 4's drop off was external factors, rather than people's distaste in comparison to other Halos. Despite what reading these sorts of threads would have you believe.

Except Reach launched alongside Black Ops and Battlefield 3, and held a steady 100K the next year and a half against MW3 and every other game released in that period, where Halo 4 dropped below 100k in months.

Reach MP was saved by the Falcon alone
:-P

I'm not surprised. The Halo 3 playlist is riddled with Ar starts and Halo 4 has a better Br.

Still, population means nothing at this point since the game is "dead".

That's not really true, it's in the top ten most played games on the X1. Whilst that might not be massive by Halo's standards, it's certainly not dead.

Halo 3 went up against 3 Call of Duty's (4, WaW, MW2) and a whole bunch of other games, and never dropped from the top 3 most played 360 titles until Halo Reach came out.

Halo Reach fared a bit worse, dropping out of the top 3 after about a year and never came back, but did not drop out of the top 10 until Halo 4 came out.

Halo 4 did so fucking bad that it dropped out of the top 3 after 3 months and the top 10 in under 1 year, and was competing with Black Ops 1, the game that Reach launched next to.

That "different times" excuse is bullshit. Once Halo started leaning more towards CoD, people left to go play what Halo was now trying to ape.

Knowing that BTB is #1, I'm sure Warzone will be a hit for Halo Guardians. I'm surprised Halo 4 is pretty high, I thought most Halo fans hated it.

That's why I put quotes around dead.

I remember a few months ago, people found out the population of bf4 was around 15-20k and Halo was lower than that. Really wish we had a population counter.

Why?

Let people play games based on what they like, rather than what other people are playing. In fact, I'd argue that counters do a lot of harm to the populations of all but the top two or three games.

Oh, okay.

The MCC is typically above BF4 nowadays actually, the game being mostly fixed and bundling with the X1 seems to have done a fairly good job bolstering the community.

Just goes to show you these internet Halo 4 haters who make a billion threads and flood every Halo thread with their thoughts are the tinniest of factions.

Good to see BTB at the top - its always been my favorite thing about Halo. I do agree the MCC community votes on 4 a bit too much in BTB though. It would be nice to see some forge maps make it to BTB. Halo 3 and 4 had some essential BTB ones.

Do shots in h2 still not register? That and smg starts were a big reason i avoided that playlist

Halo 2 Classic still has those issues from the Halo 2 Vista port where BR and Sniper shots have trouble connecting at range. I recently had a match in H2C where I shot a guy twice in the head with a sniper and did not do any damage to him/her.

Nice that Halo 3 is up there. Very confused by Halo 4, but I guess Legendary Slayer BRs with a lot of the Halo 4 BS removed is pretty fun.

Wish we had playlist numbers.

Halo 4 sucks, everyone hates Halo 4, fuck 343 for running Halo into the ground with Halo 4, look at these charts of how fast Halo 4 fell off the map, look at this Halo 3 chart (best Halo)...

Halo MCC Popularity List:... fucking Halo 4.

I'll be honest, I'm shocked to see it so high and Halo 2 down so low. Scoreboard doesn't lie though.

I remember that pointless thread, it was also pointed out that the games fluctuated constantly and about 5 minutes into that thread Halo was above BF4 in the active player popularity list. The majority of the time, Halo was above BF4 when I checked.

I don't want to search in a playlist that has a really low pop. The game already has long search times in some of the most popular playlists.

not really it just proves that 343 slaughtered the old school Halo fanbase lol. doesnt mean Halo 4 is good at all.

I can't tell you how many of my friends bought MCC and an X1 just to play Halo 2 and just about every single one of the got fed up and quit altogether after a decades worth of failure and disappointment, this game was the last straw.

I get on 2 nights a week still every week and can tell you H3 and H4 are still as piss poor as they always were. Go into any playlist that votes H2 H3 H4 and H4 will never win a single vote and H2 wins a majority of the time.

If they did a population counter the first month I can guarantee you H1 and H2 would have been top half of the list along with H3 and H4 would be near rock bottom.

Dont let them fool you. Theres a reason theyre just putting out these numbers now haha. its basically a desperate "Hey look at H4, we told you it was good!"

nah try again 343

I assume the people who liked Halo 4 and 343 tolerated the MCC's bugs, while the people who liked the first 3 Halos but didn't like Halo 4 and thus had a bad opinion of 343 already weren't as tolerant of the MCC's bugs and dropped the game earlier.

Yep going to agree with this.

I have played more halo 2 and 3 customs than I have played matchmaking at all

sadly 343 will look at this as an excuse to further ruin halo :(

Well I guess the 15k that played Halo 4 on 360 a few weeks after launch came over to play Halo 4 on MCC. The millions of other fans probably ditched MCC at this point. It's pretty bad.

It's for convenience. Should I bother now, or wait until later when more people are on? Will more people be on? Will the game not even care and still take minutes to search?

MCC is too random to accurately gauge when it's a good time to search, and I don't want to check the top played games and compare the game to bfstats every time I want to play.

For me I'm probably the exception. I liked Halo 4 but I absolutely did not tolerate the bugs in MCC so much that I returned my Xbone and MCC.

And this will make 343 actually believe a majority of people like Halo 4, completing ignoring they scared away hardcore halo fans by releasing a shitty collection of games, and that Halo 4s population fell through the floor.

They should patch Halo 4 so the thruster pack keeps you in first person and you can continue to shoot, couple that with legendary BRs and I'd actually play it quite a bit.

Really though I just want Halo 5.

BTB still has the longest search times, but is the most popular. I can't see that knowing the population would help you, to be honest.

I do have to give 343i some credit regarding Halo 4... They really worked hard to fix that game. The title updates and changes to Halo 4 really helped... Most people had long since stopped playing by the time the changes were implemented.

They basically changed H4 the way Reach received a title update in 2011. They made enough tweaks and changes that it feels like an entirely new game.

Basically this post. VVV

I never would've guessed BtB being #1 mostly because of the really long search times. There's just not knowing because I cannot see how many people are in the playlist.

I mostly play BTB, because that's the playlist where having bad players is more manageable, you rely on them less as there's less of a chance their in your vicinity. I'd say my favorite games in the collection to play would be CE, 2, 4, 2 Anniversary and then 3 in that order. CE is sometimes pretty borked on peer to peer connections, but I still like it nothing beats the CE magnum and crazy physics. 2 and 4 seem to be the most reliable as they offer hit scan weapons. 3 is the worst to play with it's awful BR, but can be fun on dedicated servers. 2A seems to meet the most lag/latency for me and with little map variety I get sick of it (would really like to see Midship). To me, Swat cuts away some of my favorite mechanics in Halo. Weapon control on maps and longer TTK that requires actual thinking and not who sees who first.

You'd think the hardcore players would be the ones who would put up with some bugs to play, not the casual "H4 kids"...

I tip my fedora to all you conspiracy theorists in here. I agree; there is NO WAY people could ACTUALLY enjoy Halo 4.

halo is dad

The hardcore Halo fans don't put up with 343s bullshit, and the people who barely understand how to grip a controller are the ones I constantly play in MCC. Most of my hardcore friends have quit because they don't have time for incompetence.

Yea. It's like with this post:

What exactly are better pastures for a Halo 2 lover, than Halo 2? Are they all playing CoD today or something?

I know a lot of people who bought XB1 and came back to Halo for this game and when it turned out to be garbage they either quit gaming or went back to CSGO

Y'all just need to accept that you are in the minority when it comes to your stance on Halo 4. It's a great game and I'm pleased that the playlist population reflects that.

I think it's safe to say they're no longer Halo lovers. CS:Go is a big one they play.

I originally quit on it last year. Used to eat, sleep, and breathe halo, but I'm not that same 18 year old anymore and it was easy to walk away last year when it was bugged on released and go to other stuff. I just came back tbh.

Well I would argue that you are the minority considering both Halo 4 on 360 and MCC on xb1 on average had a population of about 15-20k while Halo 3 had 800k+ for 3 years.

So where did they move on to? Some kinda "hardcore" fans they are. You would think the hardcore would stick it out not leave at the drop of a hat - especially considering H2 is not playable online anywhere else. The numbers are plain as day - and proves the internet H4 haters are the vast minority.
