Halo MCC Playlist Popularity, Ordered by Population

Take out the game specific playlists and the playlists are basically in the same order they have always been in Halo 3, Reach, and 4.

Halo 4 being top 3 is shocking and not shocking at the same time. Shocking in the fact that it beats out playlists like Snipers and Swat, and not shocking that it's the most recent Halo game from the 360, so 360 owners that jumped ahead to the One that got their taste of H2A go right back to what they were playing beforehand, which is 4.

Maybe Halo 4 is higher because people actually prefer it online to the other 3?

Ive been playing halo since I was small on the OG Xbox and 4 MP is my favourite between them all without the unlocks you had to do on the 360. I have a group of 5 people who played Halo from the start and we're all the same.

I'm still waiting on Halo 3 Team Hardcore. I find it quite ridiculous, because they said they have Halo 3 Forge issues, but meanwhile they add Halo 3 Forge maps to the general MP and to the new Action Sack playlist. Their playlist management straight up sucks.

Also, I have a feeling people prefer Halo 4, because it's by far the easiest in the series. Tons of aim assist and bullet magnetism on top of hitscan easy mode, where you don't even get descoped if you get hit. I'm not a fan of those very reasons and because it has like 3 maps I would consider good. It has by far the best netcode in this collection, so I'll give you guys that.

Hope Halo 5 comes with data center selection and population numbers.
I do kinda miss it in MCC population counters.

Unless i missed it?

I can't see them adding population numbers back. They don't want people to post Halo 4 charts all over again. Also, datacenters were already confirmed, but I'll believe it when I see them at release.

And people wonder why Halo is headed straight into a ditch

Because so many "true" fans didn't want to move on and accept old Halo MP is shit?

Halo 4 is that high because its better than 2 and 3. It just feels so much better to play. Having said that, SWAT is the only way to play Halo with any enjoyment factor.

I never really liked Halo 2 multiplayer but really want to give Anniversary a shot.

Halo 1 has great MP, I like 3, Reach is probably my favorite, and 4 is pretty good. I will say though Halo 1 has one of the worst single player campaigns of any shooter I've ever played. Halo 2 isn't far behind. The others are only a bit better.

At least 23 000 as of last night. Game was higher than BF4 on the most played list which sat at 23 000 online for XB1 at that time.

That would be 23,000 for the entire game though. Doesn't tell anything about how many players are in those playlists.

Also another reason Halo 4 being top 3 is shocking, but this might be a MCC issue, is that it takes forever to find a game sometimes. I've watched my brother and his friends stay in that search screen for minutes.

Yeah would have been great to get more stats from this update. I'd love to know how many people are trying to subject me to CTF Gephyrophobia in the BTB playlist - feels like there are way too many folk pushing for that map.

Statements like this always make me laugh. Do you think you are any more of a "true" Halo fan, because you like the newer Halo MP games? What's your definition of a true Halo fan? Somebody who just buys the games and always accepts the direction the new game is going blindly? A true Halo fan isn't allowed to express critisicm (good or bad)? You straight up call the older ones shit, literally shitting on the history of Halo and on peoples opinion about older Halo games.

Everybody has it's favourite Halo game and you should just accept that. Without older Halo games, we wouldn't be at this point, where Halo is still popular and relevant.

Besides that, they measured this chart based on 3 days and that doesn't tell you as much as you believe it does. We don't even know the individual population numbers of these playlists, so these playlists could be literally 2-3 people apart from each other or maybe even thousand.

Here's what Frankie has to say about Populaion Counters btw:

Population counters have multiplicative negative effects on niche populations which is why many games don't have them. There are modes with low populations that we maintain because they have value for those players. Long search times is a tax for that, sadly.

I don't agree with this at all. You can still have those playlists and have a Population Counter. Worked just fine with Halo 3/Halo Reach and certain playlists having less players than others.

That also goes both way. Not saying you are implying that, but I laugh when people say Halo is dead just because they don't like where the series or it's disgusting that Halo 4 is top of most played. Both sides look like dickheads

Before the bundling, that would've been true. Now that it has its own bundle and is bundled with the 1TB console, the population is probably better than where it was months ago.

Current population is higher than battlefield 4 on Xbox one. I think it is going to be okay

Cool to see a breakdown.

I play Rumble Pit quite a bit, so I'm surprised to see it so far down the list. I always get into games really fast. (always playing solo online)

I completely agree. Just because you don't share 343i's vision of where the series is going, it doesn't mean that you have to make statements like that. If it's your opinion that's fine (maybe try to be more polite), but stating something as a fact is always not a good idea.

If people like Halo 4, that's fine with me and I'll accept it with stating my opinion about why I think it isn't. Nobody can win here, because you most likely won't change someones opinion.

But I'll take flinch and sprint over not being able to shoot people because of wonky hit detection and pea shooter BRs. If everything is on perfect dedis I'll go H2C and H2A all day long but reality is a sad panda.

I'm honestly shocked as I was certain Halo: CE and Halo 2 would be the most popular playlists (for multiple reasons anyway). I didn't mind the core game play of Halo 4 (movement and gunplay), but I did not like everything else that came with it, however, it sounds like there were some big changes to the game (just the MCC version?) overtime.

At least I feel like I can understand why 343 makes the choices they make a bit better now. While I tend to enjoy the more vanilla Halo's like 2, people really do enjoy the more modern FPS features added to game play.

Rumble pit needs more love though, one of my favorite playlists/game type.

I don't know if I'll have an Xbox One by the time Halo 5 comes out, but I hope it turns out to be a good game for everyone.

Shocked to see Halo 2 so low down and Halo 4 so high up. I guess what Halo fans really want these days is fancy graphics over awesome map design.

I'm still futzing through the campaigns so I can't comment on multiplayer, but I think I enjoy H4's the least. It looks beautiful, but I hate how often I have to pick up new weapons. It feels like every enemy absorbs an entire gun's worth of ammo before going down.

I don't get the love for SWAT, it removes all of what makes Halo great by boiling it down to a one hit kill twitch shooter. Halo is all about shields, melee, back and forth fighting, not dying in seconds.

yeah this. i like it from time to time as a goof but this is not why i play(ed) halo.

Halo 3 being more popular than Halo 2 is surprising to me. Halo 3 is by far my least favorite game on there. The guns have terrible feedback and it feels spongy.

I would have guessed something like:
H2A > H2 > H4 > H3 > H:CE

Seems to be a huge disconnect between hard core halo players and people who are just casually playing..

In this community the hard core seem to be unwelcoming of anything modern, don't know how that will help the community grow

I don't think that's fair to a lot of fans. Look I enjoy Halo 4 for what it is, but a lot of things they had and now taken out. Was not about being more modern, but follow the leader. Halo fans what changes that make sense.

Like thrusters in Halo 5. I didn't play Halo 5 beta. but fans are really high on thrusters. Their is going to be people who bitch about everything you can't change that. A lot of Halo fans really enjoyed Halo 5 beta and say it's the best since 3.

Not hard to beat Halo 4, Reach, or 3.

I like to play a few games of SWAT just to hone my headshot skills, but I can't play it for extended periods for the reasons you've mentioned...

Lot of people seem to be looking for reasons why 4's so high, but most keep thinking about die-hards who like the most recent entry, regardless of H4 dying out so fast on 360.

Think it's pretty obvious - all the other games launched in pretty piss-poor states. Hit registration on H2 and H1 went through multiple patches to get fixed, while H3 didn't have custom game modes for the longest time. As most people know, H3 being the first with forge and having that was huge - all the MLG maps were tweaked, along with a significant amount of base matchmaking maps (Epitaph, Sandtrap, Snowbound, etc.). This alone would probably jump Hardcore up if H3 was added.

Lastly, people like shiny things. Everyone knows this - why else would everyone expect you to buy the newest version EVERY YEAR when its the same thing or worse. I'm sure a bunch of people came in looking to try all the Halo's with this one and when you don't grow up with a certain preference, you prefer the one with the least frustration - aka registered shots, beatdowns, etc.

Not saying this to devalue anything, but proof's in the pudding of the old games population counters. I hope everyone's enjoying whatever game they're playing!

That being said - I will continue not playing any H4 that gets voted. Sprint and flinch and AA's ruin this for me.

Im proud to say that in my 100s of hours playing this ive never played the h4 playlist. My friends and i only play h2, h3, and doubles playlists. unless we have a guest then we play ts.

I agree.

It does seem that Halo 4 MP is resonating with those that bought MCC.
