Dragon Quest 11 Announced! [PS4/3DS (simultaneous), NX (tentative)]

It's been a decade+ since a completely new main series offline/sp DQ was made for a home console. Glad I was awake.

So...when Horii talked about playing it on a big screen last year or the year before...he was obviously trolling, but it turned into a reality, right?

One important note here.

Every numbered DQ game has been done by an outside studio. Even X, which we originally thought was an internal project, was done mainly by Orca. That means outside of funding and a bit of coordination these games don't effect SE development one bit. They're doing the 3DS game to make money in Japan. They're doing the PS4 version to hopefully goose the numbers for Japanese sales of games they are marketing as global titles. This is a total win/win scenario assuming the development is smooth. SE isn't in any immediate financial danger like they were a few years ago.

No, it's done mainly internally, but there are a ton of different external studios who have helped, including Orca and TOSE.

There it is. I haven't played anything Dragon Quest in a while, but since this is coming to Ps4 i'll keep an eye on it. The Gifs looks good.

Why was he obviously trolling? He was very clearly being sincere. I don't understand why you would think otherwise.

Regarding DQXI's release date, producer Yosuke Saito said that they're aiming to release it within DQ's 30th anniversary year, meaning anytime from May 27, 2016 to May 26, 2017.

なお,発売時期については「30周年内」(シリーズ1作めの発売日は1986年5月27日)を目標にしているとのことだ。

Good stuff with the multiplatform release. Wish they took that approach with 8 as well.

Also, really starting to get confused about Nintendo's new hardware.

Or he was just being honest but like with everything a company says, people assumed it meant the opposite because reasons.

Well, jokingly I mean, not really negative; like he wanted to do it but wasn't sure if it was going to happen. I'm just looking at the PS4 version and it looks kinda early compared to the 3DS version.

Did they say what version? As 3DS looked more like an alpha game there while PS4 version looked more like a tech demo of using UE4.

Probably both if they're treating "DQXI" as one entity.

And haven't people covered that the 3DS version looked like it reused assets so of course it was going to look a bit more complete than the PS4 version. D:

Game looks amazing. His hairstyle looks awful.

And I guess this means the Wii U is dead in 2016. Short life time but it happens.

Just woke up and dig up some stories. Apparently Orca was known to work on DQ (now we know it's DQXI) in May. According to this article it seems like DQXI was still in the very early development

“Since it’s a project that we’re barely starting, we’ve made what’s going to be the base of the game, then from here on, we’re at a stage where we’ll make various elements to add to the game. And to do this, we’ll need staff that can provide ideas, so we’ve decided to get planners to help participate in coming up with ideas.”

If this is true, it's kinda surprising that the game will come out in 2016.

Ni No Kuni NDS and PS3 release dates were close to a year apart.

Oh, and NDS version was never released in North America. I hope DQ doesn't follow same treatment.

The 3DS version is one of the silliest uses of the Dual Screens I have ever seen.

The retro 2D screen stuff is totally going to end up on smartphones

With the PS4 version, it had no NPC's and no combat shown off. It was just the Hero running around a town and then the field. With the 3DS version, you had a town with NPC's, a field, a small story/cutscene thing and the battle system. Not to mention the 2D bottom screen. It just felt more complete.

Having never been a fan of the 3D look for most 3DS titles due to how weak the handheld is, the 2D mode is amazing. That's the one I'll be using the entire time.

Like I said in my previous post, they will probably port the 3DS version (I don't think phones will have problems handling the graphics when they release it) to mobile, then years later, the PS4 version (or a downgraded version) to mobile when phones can handle it.

NX???

BTW, Verendus was right, 5 DQ for PS: Heroes, Heroes 2, Builders, X and XI.

He said all of them would get localized, so I guess even the MMO is coming over.

So the first officially announced NX game is one of the biggest third party franchises. Interesting.

The game looks rough. Unreal4 version looks like a tech demo. 3DS version looks more fleshed and the two perspectives are great. But May 2016 seems a bit early for a release.

I love it personally. It's such an awesome contrast, and the bottom shouldn't be very hardware intensive anyway.

The old school RPG look of it has me hooked, and somehow more interesting than the PS4 version.

He said one of them would be a remake.
I don't know why people always just gleefully ignore every time he's wrong about stuff.

Still waiting on Shadow Hearts, Verendus.

Oh phew. DQX was the one I was worried about for localization because I don't know if Verendus knew about it or not.

Great news though. I'll be buying all 5 games.

Oh man I didn't expect it to be announced in two versions for PS4 and 3DS. But I have to say that both versions look great. Sure, PS4 version looks early, but those visuals are lovely.
And I think the Dual Screen 2D/3D gimmick of the 3DS version is really neat. And visually, the 3D graphics in the 3DS version also looked nice for a 3DS game. I actually really want both versions, Square Enix got me there lol
Now I'm praying to the stars that both versions get localized

Also, that NX announcment caught me completely off guard. I was legit shook when I heard them say "NX" and said "WHAT?!?" out loud, haha. Beating Nintendo to the punch at announcing games for their own new system, didn't expect that, heh.
