Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Announced - Releasing Feb 5th, 2026

And DQVIII port is heavily compromised with its vertical view and downgraded audio.
Again, not here to argue over technical specs of cell phones vs a dedicated handheld from 2011. Just pointing out the 3DS version of VII was a ground-up remake with lots of new features and QoL, as was the 3DS version of VIII. Very much apples/oranges when talking about the 3DS remakes vs the phone ports which were more or less just straight ports of the originals.

This has quickly become my most anticipated game. February isn't too far out. If they're doing this for VII and seeing what they've done for 1-3, I think we're going to be in for a treat when VIII gets the revisit treatment.

$250?! jesus christ, I can get Slime plushies cheaper by just taking another trip to Japan. I already got 3 last time I was there.
Blame the ship in a bottle. They probably added an extra hundred because of it.

My review of the trailer is that it looks nice but everything seemed to look a bit dark. I wish it was a little bit more vibrant.

I don't disagree regarding 3DS vs mobile ports. What I am saying is that mobile DQVIII port is a compromised vs PS2 version.

Vertical view is just not great for this game. And it has no VA or Orchestral music. If you do have a decent Android phone, it's probably better just to emulate PS2 or maybe even 3DS version.

Edit: I do have OG PS2 game, 3DS cart and iOS version of mobile port. DQVIII is perhaps my favorite DQ game so I was kind of disappointed. They should have at least have a new version (even if separate $$) to reflect modern devices.

* 2D may not be the right way to describe it, it's chibby 3D.

Is this coming to PS5 too?

Holy shit it's gorgeous

Never played one of these ever, but my taste in games is changing and this looks fun. What should I try to get into these?
Dragon Quest XI (and/or Dragon Quest VIII) if you want to feel the series when it shifted more towards an involved story and an emphasis on party members on a journey. The Dragon Quest 1-3 remakes if you want to feel a modernized take on the early games where the stories were simpler and there is less emphasis on the identity of the characters in your party and more emphasis on finding fun in choosing certain jobs/vocations for your party members (let me clarify that Dragon Quest 1 does not have party members and I'm not certain if it has a job/vocation system). Dragon Quest VII is arguably the best of both worlds because you have party members that are actual characters and you also have a job/vocation system you engage them in. The 3DS version created costume changes for your party members depending on which job they had. I assume/hope this game will as well (I'm a bit worried it won't though because in this remake you can have two job classes activated at once and they seem to be very proud of the character models they made, they may want to focus on those models rather than having different models for different jobs). Dragon Quest VI also did this but from what I understand, the party members aren't that present in the story and largely just tag along with you as the events of the story unfold. I could be wrong though. I want to play VI but have not yet.

I have huge hopes for this remake of DQVII. I think it's going to be an excellent offering for those interested in DQ but need the series a bit streamlined and don't find the very early games appealing.
