Rock Band 4 or Guitar Hero Live?

I got rid of all of my plastic instruments a long time ago, and I'm thinking of picking up just the guitar bundle for either RB4 or GHL because I'm not storing another set of fake drums in my 550 sq foot apartment.

But the guitars are different this time around, basically making the games incompatible with one another, right?

GHL seems to have made some interesting changes with the live crowds and the new guitar controller, so that seems cool. But I'm thinking my craving for a new music game might be best served with just the classic formula that I already know how to play and the endless track availability of Rock Band.

If you plan to pick either of these games up, which one?

RB4 for me. Huge library of songs that I downloaded on 360 will be available when I boot up on XB1.

Screw that new GH guitar. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Going with Rockband. No backwards compatibility for Guitar Hero hurts. And isn't a lot of Guitar hero content online only through Guitar hero TV?

^ Agreed. I have no interest in Guitar Hero Live. I'm all for trying new things, but I prefer Rock Band as I like the current guitar and will be able to use my $700-800 of songs.

RB4. Activision doesn't give a crap about this genre of games. Your old dlc or instruments work? No. I wonder how many GH games they'll churn out in a years time.

I'm going with Rock Band 4 at launch due to the fact that it's basically building on a formula that has worked for Harmonix for a while now (and the fact that a good number of my songs from the previous versions will work). I do applaud FreeStyle Games though for changing up Guitar Hero and introducing new mechanics to it (and I'm sure I'll get it sometime down the road)

I'm ridiculously invested in the Rock Band ecosystem so I'm all in for RB4.

Also freestyle vocals and the guitar solo thing are a huge draw for me.

I still have a GH:L pre-order w/ Amazon but will likely be cancelling it.

Got both pre ordered, was initially only going with RB4 cause of the huge library they have available. But couldn't pass up on Guitar Hero for 69 Canadian Dollars, That's a steal!

I'm going Guitar Hero. Not gonna lie, the track list isn't blowing my nuts off, but my platform situation means I have no prior DLC to consider, I'll be playing almost exclusively on my own, and I really only want one plastic instrument to worry about.

Plus I think the new guitar is just cooler, and provides something a bit different than what we've seen before.

I breifly played guitar hero live at e3, and while I love most rhythm games, I could not get into live at all, the 3 frets split into two was just not unique enough to distinguish it from it's predecessors, and the presentation is not really satisfying.

Rock Band 4 is better than ever, the choice is obvious. The new guitar solos is the best thing since sliced bread.

This is actually the black mark against RB4 for me. I jumped from Xbox 360 to PS3 near the end of the generation and haven't looked back...except all my Rock Band DLC is locked to Xbox. If I could somehow transfer it over to PS4, I'd immediately buy Rock Band 4. But nope.

I won't be touching Guitar Hero Live because it looks like trash. I'm not willing to start over from scratch right now, and I'm not willing to buy an Xbox One. So I guess I'm just done with music games.

It's really kind of a shame that they changed the controller for Guitar Hero.

I get that they wanted to try something new and in some ways I like that since the genre has gotten stagnant, but the "live" aspect looks really cool and that probably would've been enough while keeping the gameplay the same.

I would've easily chosen Guitar Hero if it had the classic formula.

I mean...fuck me, right?

I'm going 360 > PS4 on Rock Band (and really my big library is on Wii; I just bought RB3 and some songs on 360 because I thought I would get the instruments there in time before RHCP was pulled...and so far I only have two USB mics), so I'm starting from scratch, and since I only have GH3 guitars for Wii, even if I got GH:L on Wii U I'd still be getting another guitar.

Right now the only pull GH has is that it's on a console I currently own and a single Gaslight Anthem song. Both have songs that are cool, but nothing I would want to jam out on plastic instruments for. In the end it comes to setlist, and until they both reveal the full list and three weeks worth of DLC, I'm not deciding on either.

Hint for Harmonix/Activision: First to secure Springsteen is the first to get my money

Going to get both at launch!

Super excited about both games, especially since both of them have Paramore (my favoritest band in the universe). And from their new album, too!

Really excited about everything Guitar Hero Live is doing (the FMV stuf, the new guitar, GH TV). Rock Band 4 has had a big share of disappointing news (the big one being that they're dropping support for keyboard and pro guitar), but harmonies on everything is awesome.

So right now, I'm more excited about Guitar Hero Live, even though I will definitely love Rock Band 4 more and be playing it long after I put down Live.

Guitar Hero Live for me. I love FMV and the new guitar looks cool. Also it's my peeps what made DJ Hero.

I was tired of Rock Band even before RB3 and from what I understand they haven't changed much.

I have to say I'm legit surprised at how positive the reaction to this has been given how underplayed harmonies have been in my party/competitive community experience. I always figured it was one of the neglected features of RB3 but people really seem hyped for the legacy stuff.

They're different enough now that if you're a huge fan of rhythm games, I don't see why you wouldn't check out both. RB4 is back to basics but with a ton of backwards support. GH Live has a nice novelty factor, if it appeals to you. Both are feeling a bit lean on content compared to previous outings.

It'd be nice if they both sold well, otherwise I fear someone is going belly up.

Rock Band 4 is a no-brainer.

1) It supports my 100s of already purchased songs.
2) Harmonix has been better with post launch support and DLC.
3) Harmonix represents quality over quantity.
4) It's got full band support. I only really care about drums.

to be honest...........both,

Despite no backwards compatibility, guitar hero live will get a lot of content through the TV feature. There is already a lot of post core/hardcore support that I haven't seen in a mainstream rock band.

However I have hundreds of songs and love to play the drums so I will be getting rock band as well!

RB4 is what I expect and want, and of course have a big DLC investment in.

that new Guitar Hero seems like a weird novelty, like DDR or Rocksmith

Well, this is for me personally. At my parties, people sing along regardless if they have a mic or not. I just enjoy having the option to choose to sing along to whatever part is going on at the time.

And I know the guy who made the Harmonies for the legacy stuff! He's a super cool dude, and it's awesome knowing his hard work has made it in the real game.

Guitar Hero for me, new button layout is a new game.

Rock Band looks great but I did that a few years ago and it hasn't changed, it's basically just a HD remake as far as I'm concerned.

Chords for a rhythm game are really interesting, Guitar Hero has evolved it's core game play and Rock Band is stuck in the past.

I want to get both eventually. I prefer Rock Band, but I'd like to have a go at that new Guitar Hero controller. Seems fun.

Huh, I hadn't noticed it had dropped to $100 on my pre-order. Welp, for CAD$69, I'm keeping my pre-order haha.

I use them all the time, but yeah, didn't think they were that liked at large. Just surprising to see the reception.

I'm really looking forward to playing them.

Yeah, they had a pricing error on the PS4 for $100. Then a few days later they had all versions for $100. Now it's back up to $129 though. Everyone that got an order in for that during E3 got pretty lucky.

I hope both do well, because I never really wanted this genre to go away (though it definitely needed to cool its jets). That being said, I'm very curious to see sales for both, and find out whether or not the public at large cares any more.

Rock Band 4. I've spent loads of money into DLC, so being able to use that alone clinches it for me. Furthermore, when my friends come over, Rock Band is the go-to game to play. Won't be able to do that with Guitar Hero: Live.

I'm not terribly interested in relearning a new plastic guitar, but if the price is right further down the line, I might pick up GHL. But until then, RB4.

RB4 looks like the better game.

I appreciate that Guitar Hero Live is at least trying to change things up a bit though. RB4 feels more like a reminder of why I got bored of the genre than anything else.

GH Live for sure, their song selection seem to fit my taste much better.

Also, RB4 looks like a very safe sequel. Looks very boring to me, played GH3 and RB: Beatles and that was enough for me.

Probably RB4 but I am leaning towards none. I only really like singing and the drums and that is going to set me back too much. I should have kept my old instruments but I figured these games as a genre were dead and any sort of backwards compatibility with my library and plastic instruments was a sure fire no go. Maybe I will pick up a bundle when retailers are tired of having to have huge boxes taking up space and discount the shit out of them.

Rock Band for all of the existing DLC, even though I don't own much of it. I do appreciate what Guitar Hero is doing differently though. Maybe after the music game market crashes again and I can get it for 20 dollars.

I bought an Xbox One yesterday mainly for Rock Band 4. The library of songs is unmatched, and I already own nearly 1000. Also the new custom solos are a BLAST. I played so much RB4 at E3.

This I'd me pretty much, except the fmv thing. The dj hero people have my trust. And I'm ready for something more than HD same old rhythm game, so I'm glad the guitar hero controller is mixing things up.
