Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

The FADC Cancels feel like they came from people who really like Guilty Gear.
I don't have a problem with FADC at all, it's just that some character's focus attack and/or dash sucks.

Playing Gouken, I'm pressing FA at least 4-5 times a match.

Playing Guile, yeah, maybe use it to back dash and get out of trouble, hardly ever for an attack.

I dunno why stuff like Backdash/Focus attack wasn't universally awesome tools for ALL characters.

But at least they seem to be learning in SFV. In the goals, they stated they aren't going to nerf strong characters, but buff weaker ones.

Need to look at KOF and VF5 for references, two of the most balanced fighters I've come across, and I don't like them nearly as much as SF

man, I'm really feeling the old timers right now. I mean, it's just too many systems, it's like there's certain groups of characters that use different tools. I still love a good Gief, Blanka, Honda, match, when I get beat, it's just like "man, that was some good poking." Spamming jaguar kicks and me miss timing my low forward so I get hit with three of them in one round? Man, I dunno, I can't attribute that as easily to the other guy kicking my butt lol.

I don't think it was because the roster was so small either, SFV just feels really really good again. back to basics. If I do reinstall SF4, think I'm just gonna use Ryu exclusively and work on spacing, AA, zoning etc...

Shame I missed out on third strike though, for some reason, I only played it casually.

Yeah, lol.

So, after 09, I quit SF4 for like...2-3 years? I came back with AE2012, and I've been struggling with the game. There are things that are just really hard for me to adjust to. Jump arcs, the way block strings work, the lenient reversal timing, movement. Just really hard for me. I have always hated FADC in principle, because I think it shouldn't be able to be done on block. Vortex characters just don't make sense to me (and that's what knocked me out at EVO...vortex Ibuki, lol). I always hated invincible backdashes in SF because they just don't make sense with the moves of SF, imo. I refuse to OS, I refuse to plink, because that's just not fun to me. Even if somebody else is doing it to me, personally, I don't like options being the reason I won over my reads. Even if I started to win more doing those things, it would be boring for me and wouldn't feel right.

So, yeah, just struggled and struggled. I've gotten over it now, mostly, in that I just accept it for what it is even if I'll never like it because there's something to the core of SF that can't be had anywhere else. That's why I kept trying with SF4. Then they show Charlie in SF5, and immediately I'm done trying in SF4, lol. Like that night. Charlie is my favorite SF character ever, and I assumed he would be a charge character, so I just started using Guile in SF4. Few weeks ago I picked up Ryu. That's all I've been using for the past few months. I did better at EVO than I ever have with those characters. haha

I cannot fucking wait for SF5. So, basically just a long winded post to say I know how you feel. :)

FADCs work better as a universal mechanic in GG, though. Charged characters are pretty boned with FADCs, people with bad dashes. They're not a very well thought out mechanic.

Will be interesting seeing the initial complaints about SFV compared to SFIV. I hope there's a decent amount of combo heavy characters though, give me them SFA3 Guy combos, or someone who has a custom combo like super (like Yun)..

Yeah, lol.

Amazing, feels good when someone out there knows how you feel. Happy for you brother, we gonna tear these fools up once SFV starts!

Did you get a chance to play people in the beta? I was hooked after 3 matches. Even Ryu felt really solid and not slow at all. I mean, I just can't wait.

oh and just realize why I fluctuate so much in PP in SF4. Sometimes I can get as high as 4200+ PP, but then I get stuck going back n forth with 3K ranges. it's because when I play traditional footsie/spacing characters like other shotos, traditional grapplers, or the charge guys I have a much better chance of winning, especially against someone my skill level, for some reason, people are still surprised when they play a decent ken lol, they play shabby against me all the time. When I play Ibuki, Twins, Fuete, Adon, my win percentage plummets, particularly the ones I refuse to take to training and study the match up or I don't have a good one on my friends list.

Lol...yeah, just gonna play casually from here on out in endless and just watch SFV videos.

I got a few matches in. Like 5 or 6. I played a few matches at EVO as well. Did get like 30 minutes in training mode. Used mostly Charlie and Cammy. Love the way both of them feel.

Can't wait to see all of the characters. Game feels like something special to me.

Yah I found Nash pretty fun in the beta too, will main him (dem teleport combos)... But I need Guy or Urien in this game to feel truly happy.. I assume because Nash didn't feel to OP (maybe his teleport), don't think he'll be nerfed much before launch.

Yeah, cammy looked really cool as well, I didn't pick up Charlie just because Capcom specifically labeled him as "hard to use" lol...he seems to have a ton of target combos though, I can tell most people aren't using him to even half of his full potential.

Couldn't agree more though. First thing I was thinking when I was winning with Ryu is, "Diago is gonna love this game". The quick back dashing, the normals that hit hard with appropriate animations. The instant get up and roll back, heck even wiggling your stick and seeing the character movement feels better and more fluid. Yeah, they have ton of work ahead of them (Hitboxes need some fixes) but I can't see how this won't shape up to be one of the best SF games in decades.

Funny you should mention this. I main gouken but like to play dudley a lot since he's more aggressive. I've noticed guile players like to complain about focus attack abuse. It's one of Dudleys main footsie tools and without it he'd be an absolutely terrible character. I don't like that they designed some character's to have to rely on this mechanic.

Skilletor, didn't you main Ibuki for a while?

Juri, if she is in, will have Feng Shui Engine as her V-Trigger, I imagine. Isn't that kind of like a custom combo super? I actually don't know how it works...

I think there are already some legitimate complaints about SFV. I think burst damage is way too high, and movement speed could use an increase. One attack into super shouldn't take out 70% of a life bar.

So we have:

Cammy=ass
Chunli=thighs
Juri= toes
Rmika= breastsasis
Karin= upskirt panty shots

I think Capcom knows their fetishes...
Figure out the missing fetish to know Laura's character design.

Yeah, lol.

I was the same way, I quit around AE after playing since vanilla and only now just came back to it and I'm getting wrecked in ways I hate. Vortex isn't as bad anymore but maining guile just doesn't seem to work as well it used to be for me, I used to destroy ryus and makatos now it seems like everything I do gets stuffed in the most oddest of ways. Plus I do think there's too many characters personally in IV, I don't think I can beat half the cast simply because no one plays them. I go up against an A rank dhalsim or blanka it's a wash lol. Plus too many characters seem to have total freedom, kens actually pretty hard for me to fight against since some are gods are kara throwing and others are DP kings! Everything I've seen from SFV seems to at least normalize everything at least.

I have never played 3S. Help me understand?

Well for Dudley, inv backdash in sf4 screws with how he played in 3S(knockdowns,mixups)
His normals are not as good, especially f.hp.

The super art system in 3s also gave Dudley a lot more ex usage which was one of his strengths, where in ultra you need meter for FADC instead.

Plus I hate his voice in ultra :p

His JP voice is fine, but his English VA sounds...fruity compared to the true gentleman voice he got in 3S.

Yeah his voice in 3S was so good, he was more of a cocky gentleman.

"Gutter trash!"

FSE allows you to chain all her normals into attacks. It makes her overhead kinda stupid. It also makes her move faster and makes her dashes dodge some fireballs. She could do some stupid shit with FSE and enough bar.
I feel FSE was a test for V Trigger. If they take from Omega Juri should be awesome in this.

I hated the 3S translations into third especially the twins. Yun feels no where near as satisfying. Neither does Hugo. The fact I can't 7 slap off of stun is so.....ugh.

Is there more? She looks cool.

I now wish that every character's V-Trigger was a permanent boost. Give every character multiple V-Trigger levels so we can go nuts.

It didn't work well in COTA

I agree. I've always hated proximity normals and single button throws.

The only thing I don't like about SF5 is that they didn't go back to SFA2-style single-button throws/holds.. Single-button means kara-throwing isn't a problem.

Yeah, I think she'd pretty high on the tier list in 5 too.

"direction + single button" throw means option-select throw and thus no whiff animation. Generally a bad idea in a game with powerfull throws.
