Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

I'm liking it so far. The only issue I had was with my two monitors not both displaying but that was fixed with a reboot. No issues with the games I've played or anything.

Xbox One game streaming is pretty bad and I have a solid ass network. Couldn't play MCC or Ori without it bugging out, lagging and crashing. What kind of shit do you need to make it work right?

Everything else is great though.

For those on a surface make sure you go into settings and make tablet mode automatic. This means when you attach a keyboard it goes into pc mode for everything and when you remove it all programs become full screen apps, perfect for using it as a tablet.

One thing I've noticed is it chucks you straight into windows, would have been nice if it set up stuff like that and cortana for you instead of waiting for you to find it.

Jesus I was at 75% installation and it restarted. Now I'm stuck at a black screen, does anyone have any suggestions?

This is the issue I had last night, tried two times. The first time I gave it 5-10 minutes and then did a hard reboot, it reverted back to W7 upon boot up. The second time I decided to let it sit overnight and went to bed hoping it just needed more time. I checked it this morning before heading to work and it reverted to W7 on it's own. When I looked at Windows Updates, it showed a failure. I think it took in the realm of 45 minutes to two hours to fail on it's own, I forget when I started the process.

What I noted is that I didn't see W10 download progression in Windows Update like people are posting pics of in here, it just brought up the upgrade window almost right away. I'm thinking that it didn't download the whole thing and that's why it gets to 75% and then doesn't know what to do. Now that it's officially out, I'm hoping I'll be able to naturally download the whole thing when I get home. Let me know if you figure out a solution!

It's possible that the download has been corrupted. Try this.

Try start>regedit>hkey local machine>component>delete or rename pending registry. Restart and try again. Worked for me.

Now it is downloading the update again, but not error anymore.
There is no pending registry there for me.

System reset done, went without a hitch (and yes, it actually reinstalls Windows). Feels much smoother without all my old W7 crap. And holy shit, it even automatically got BT working and junk.

EDIT: All drivers seem to have been automatically installed correctly, nothing isn't working. Although I guess I'll need to install GeForce Experience and all that.

I enabled fast startup. How do I turn it off? Just press start button then shut down? Or will that initiate a proper shutdown and not the hybrid?

I've been running the upgrade for the past few hours. At first I could see the program doing it's thing just fine, so I went off to play my ps3 for a few hours. I glanced over and I find that my monitor is completely blank now, but the PC is still running.

Is this normal? I don't know if the upgrade is finished or not. But shouldn't I have visual confirmation by now?

To be honest I don't like how shallow the "something happened" is. Seems like a kick in the balls from a software engineering perspective.

Tried to do Media Creation upgrade; got to first reboot. Reboot occurred, nothing appeared on monitor. Waited a suitable amount of time, tried a shutdown, booted up again, "Restoring your Previous Version of Windows". I mean, that's better than totally deleting everything at random, but not ideal.

Edit: Never mind, looks like restore is fucked up, logged in to Windows and not getting any desktop allllriiiiight

Currently running Media Creation... I'm scared

Nvidia installer's are all failing. That includes uninstall as well.

Halp.

Go to device manager and on display adapter click scan for hardware changes then restart. That worked for me. If not check windows update and see if Windows is trying to install the new nvidia drivers.

It's not letting me download apps (facebook especially) ?

Also, I enabled fast startup. How do I turn it off? Just press start button then shut down? Or will that initiate a proper shutdown and not the hybrid?

I wonder why some of you guys's systems are having such a hard time with this.

I'm upgrading my third machine as we speak, zero problems.

Hey guys I've got some errands to run and want to update with the installation tool. Once I start it, is it going to need my input for anything or can I just go do my errands and hopefully back to a 10 setup screen?

I ran it this morning on 8.1, left for work, then remote accessed my PC about 2 hours later and it was Windows 10.

Can you upgrade from 8.1 via .iso?

I can't get the upgrade (via Windows Update or the "upgrade now" option in Microsoft's tool) to work, but I have the .iso now.

So the installation files are sitting on my HDD since morning, and the GWX app changed from "you have reserved Windows 10" to this:

Am I stuck until Microsoft's "partners" get around this? This isn't even a pre-built PC.I kinda want to try the "deleting everything inside Download folder" method, but I don't want to risk downloading everything again. Maybe it won't since it's all on Windows~BT folder already?

Edit: I did it anyway, and Windows Update is downloading it all again. Oh well, waiting a few hours is better that not knowing how long at all.

I'm doing the upgrade via media creation tool. Dumb question, but how can I tell if I'm on windows 8 pro or home? My box is just a purple box that says windows 8 and when i go to my system settings it just says windows 8.

I feel like a moron...

Everything else is great though.

I was racing around in Forza with 0 lag. I could see some video compression but not too bad.

I have both my PC and Xbox wired into a 24 port HP Procurve switch.

I also tested it with the downstairs Xbox which is wireless and it still worked great. It is 5ghz to my nighthawk.

hm. got the black screen and then blue screen. did a restart and seem to be fine for now. knew something was up when i tried to go into personalization from the desktop context menu and it wouldn't load.

now stuff is running smoothly for now.. lol

Just wait. There are millions of people getting downloading Windows 10, you will get it.

Control Panel\System and Security\System

Under Windows Edition.

Go to PC info in the settings app or System in the control panel.

Man this OS is a pile of shit.

All the modern apps have stopped working, music, xbox, store, settings. I've tried googling the problem as well as powershell commands but nothing has worked.

I really don't want to format.

I hate the monopoly Microsoft have, if you want decent apps and the ability to play games you have to use Windows. I can't even go back to Windows 8.1 because games will start to use DX12 in the next year or two.
