Just transitioned last night. Great stuff and smooth sailing except GPU is malfunctioning. Any actual fix for Nvidia cards? The drivers Nvidia released and the windows update pack that everyone was recommending on google did nothing. Shit still don't work.

Is there a fix out there for the start menu opening and closing itself along with the cursor flailing across the screen? Goes away with a restart. I haven't noticed any pattern of when it happens.

I need some help. I just bought a DVI to HDMI cable so I could set up a second monitor.

Monitor 1 - HDMI from GPU to screen
Monitor 2 - DVI from GPU to HDMI screen

I am only getting audio from the second monitor. If there anyway to set either monitor 1 as the only sound enabled screen, or so sound comes from whatever monitor is playing something?

Edit: So firstly the little drop down arrow in the task bar wasn't letting me change the audio output but now it is.

Okay, I have a very weird phenomenon after one of the latest updates: all my UWP apps disappeard, including tiles on the start menu.

But they still "exist" in a way because I still get notifications, e.g., from Mail. I just can't open the app.

Anything I could do? Googling didn't really come up with something useful.

Are the apps straight up unusable? Doesn't start at all?

A shortcut for Microsoft Edge broke for me after updating, but I just replaced it with a new one.

They don't even show up in the start menu. Except for the store and the Xbox app for some weird reason. And as I said, there also are no tiles in said start menu.

Funny thing is, I *can* start some of the apps through the store, but they don't even show up on the task bar. They run just fine, but that's about it.

And they look like that in the Task Manager:

The first is NexGen Reader, "VideoUI" is the preinstalled movie app.

I have a tablet that Im using in a car, and although in the bios I have it set to "State After G3: s0 State" but it doesn't work. It just stays charging but not turned on.

When I drive everyday its not a big deal because the battery doesnt die that quickly, but if I go an extended time without driving it does and I didnt want to have to engineer a physical button to turn it on. So Im really hoping I can make it work via software.

Suggestions?

Tried using the Powershell command to reinstall apps?

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"

That did the trick (with an additional } at the end), thank you very much!

All my tiles are apparently gone, though, but at least I can re-add them.

I swear since the anniversary update Windows 10 has decided to give even less shits about the minuscule bandwidth that's available to me.

Here's my process list in task manager organised by network activity:

tIcwIjt.png

(Yeah I know, 1.8Mbps is a joke, but it's what I have to live with)

Common sub-services that appear on the top of that svchost list are Microsoft Account Sign-In Assistant, Update Orchestrator Service for Windows Update, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Windows Update, and Group Policy Editor.

I've no idea if that sub-list is also ordered in terms of bandwidth consumed or not, I assume it is. Somebody throw me a bone here, because Windows Update is doing nothing, I checked myself. it's up to date. In 'advanced options' everything is off, and in 'choose how updates are delivered' I've set it to 'Off', as I thought maybe other devices on the network could be contacting it. For good measure I turned the settings off on the other machines too. I also turned OneDrive off.

Then I decided to look up this Background Intelligent Transfer Service (or BITS for short) that appears at the top of that SVCHost Process list.

Looked up a guide here where it reads:

If you have a Pro edition of Windows, you can use Group Policy even if you're not on a domain. Run gpedit.msc to open the Local Group Policy Editor. Expand the following containers in the left pane: Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Network → Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). Double-click the setting called Limit the maximum network bandwidth for BITS background transfers. In the dialog that appears, you can set one maximum rate for "working hours" (on a schedule you define) and a different maximum for other times. If you want to set the maximum to a certain value all the time, just make the two rates the same and clear the Use all available unused bandwith box, like this:

00jwv.png

So I did this (setting it to something reasonable for my connection that would still allow me to operate but let the OS do whatever it needed to do), and it achieved nothing. SVCHost was still using 1.8Mbps constantly. I read up about it a bit more, and heard anecdotes of other people noticing that Windows 10 actively ignores that BITS limiter.

The only thing that actually ended up working for whatever reason, was when I rebooted my machine, and even that doesn't work all the time, infact I tried it just now and SVCHost just carried on using 1.8Mbps after I logged back on. But what kind of a solution is that anyway, having to rely on resetting the machine for it to only sometimes work? I want to know what is using that bandwidth and limit it or restrict it to certain hours, none of which seems possible. Webpages load at a crawl whenever Windows 10 decides to do this, and I at least want to know why, and I don't think that's asking too much of any half respectable OS.

Using Win10 annyversery for sometime and also I liked the Edge browser, updated and had to restart and now on opening up Edge all my bookmarks/favs have been deleted, it's like Edge has been reset or something

It seems to be a common thing as well

Okay, this shit has been bugging me for a long time. Hopefully someone knows the solution, I've tried a few but finally have given up.

I'm using a USB Mic (Blue Snowball). I use Ventrilo to communicate with my friends while playing Dota (and other games on steam etc.). My mic will work fine when I start the computer, I open Recording Devices (in volume mixer??) and see the sound bars moving indicating that indeed my voice is being transmitted to the mic.

Once I launch a game (Dota) the mic will no longer respond to my voice (the bars in recording are no longer moving). The mic no longer is picking up my voice (or any noise).

The fix for this, is wait for the game to launch and then change the codex from DVD quality to CD quality and back and forth depending on whichever it is on. Press Accept / Okay and then after about 20 seconds I'm good to go... until I launch the game again.

Very annoying, I mean, I'm dealing with it with this "fix" but its obviously a pain in the ass.

Also, its not just launching games, it will also stop responding if I plug in a controller. Same fix.

If you have insight pls halp.

I'm having an odd issue with some icons (both shortcuts and .exes).

Some of them are completely blank (even the .exes) like Firefox.exe, MSIAfterburner.exe and some others. I've tried re-installing them but they still have the blank .exe and subsequently a blank shortcut.

Suggestions anyone?

Not a biggie but I'm very curious since it's a fresh install of Windows, and considering they stay this way even after a re-install.

This is probably a problem with the insider build I'm currently using but for the last week, upon powering on, my PC always gets caught in an update loop for like half an hour where the update will eventually fail? Any solutions?

I checked to see if there is a new insider build and there isn't so should I just roll back to the previous build I was using?

I think this is the best place to post this, apologies if it's not.

I'm having a bit of trouble with being able to edit file properties after Windows 10 updated the other day. It only seems to have affected my .mp3 and .mkv files but I can't edit their properties through file explorer at all. The folders they are saved in are checked as read-only but when I uncheck them, they become read-only again when I re-open to ensure it saved. The .mp3 files also have a security warning in their properties that reads "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer." Unblocking them changes nothing either.

I've looked up solutions but none that I've found seem to work. I followed some instructions to go through the registry editor and disable the blocking of downloaded files but the pathway listed in the guide wasn't even there. I can still edit them using Mp3tag so it's not the biggest issue ever but I'd prefer to sort this out now if possible.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm using W10 Version 1607 and Build 14393.351 if that's any help also.

How do you disable bloody CompatTelRunner from constantly scanning your hard drive?
Just how?
I disabled telemetry in the settings panel.
I deleted task scheduler that fired off that piece of shit.
I enabled registry entries that disable this.
I took ownership of the bloody thing and made in unexecutable for both SYSTEM and TrustedInstaller.
It still runs constantly, scanning my drive. All the bloody time.
Please help!

My mtohers laptop wont stop rebboting over and over. I'm thinking of installing a a new hard drive. ia lready have one. How do I get Windows 10 on there for free? She already had Windows 10 on this computer and I just want to swap drives.Surely she doesnt have to purchase Windows 10 when she already had it on this computer once before.

Man me too although it doesn't actually run all the time. Just when I am not particularly wanting it to run.

It seems like every time I start loading up any game to play, windows starts scanning my drive and stuff it's annoying.

You can download a Windows 10 ISO direct from MS with their "Windows 10 Media Creation Tool" and make a bootable USB to clean install Windows. The Windows license will activate after you go online (after installing).

Long story short i've been having the 100% disk usage issue for ages so been avoiding to update. I just did and everything installed fine and its going smoothly.

I went to FINALLY download Halo 5 Forge from the store but it won't let me.. It says "this requires 14393.98 or higher".

When I look my computer says its completely upto date? So how do I go about getting this? Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I haven't been using Windows for long. I followed a link to the Microsoft Update Catalog site but am unsure what I need to do next.

Thanks!

If you go to Settings - System - About it'll tell you the build number you're currently on. If it's definitely below 14393.98 go here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 . There should be an update now button that'll sort you out.

Yeah thanks I figured that out. My problem was i've been avoiding the latest updates since my problem so I tried to "reset this computer" but it failed so I had to completely fresh install from USB which is why I went all the way back to 1511. I just forgot all about that.

Hoping someone can help me with this.

Just got a new laptop for a slightly early Christmas present, and am trying to change the desktop slideshow settings. I want to allow the slideshow on battery power, but when I switch it on and exit the system settings and go back in, it always disables itself. I've gone into Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Desktop Background Settings > Slideshow > On Battery and switched it from Paused to Available. So I go back into the system settings and once again switch on "Allow slideshow when on battery power", exit the system settings and go back in, and it still disables itself. I've even tried restarting the computer and following the steps again, and it still won't work. Is this a glitch? Is there any way to fix it? Should I contact Microsoft?

EDIT: Figured it out. It's not the setting that's glitched, it's the toggle display that's glitched. It's on even though it says it isn't. Weird.

Alright I am in need of some assistance here. My system crashes sort of frequently and after a bit of digging this is what came up, and I have no idea where to start. Mostly because I have no idea how to read the minidump files that are being created. But my crash code is always IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL
