Upgrade to Windows 10?

Tried the reset option for a clean install and it took forever. After it finished, it gave me a blue screen of death with: INNACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Had to use my trustu laptop to create a bootable win 10 install to perform a clean install. Besides that inconvenience, it's working like a charm, better than the previews.

So I finally got to install Windows 10, It never gave me a choice to do a Full fresh install. Everything updated perfectly no hiccups at all. I wanted a FRESH install tho, I still have to update my Laptop and i was hoping for a fresh install on that one since the windows on that laptop is soooo messed up that it really is in need of a fresh install.

Is there a reason why i did not get to chose a fresh install. On my desktop all my settings were there once update was finished, i didnt even need to log onto neogaf my account was already open .... Is there a way to make it a FRESH install.

Couldn't see a more appropriate thread: How come I'm not seeing the connect option on the Xbox W10 App?

The Xbox app probably needs updating. The current version is 7.7.21024

Anyone else with custom-built PC's getting something like this:

Do I need to clear my Software Distribution folder and force the update, or should I wait?

The check it does seems to think I'm ready... so I dunno what the holdup is.

I've given up on the "Install via upgrade" gonna try the download from MS site

The streaming from Xbox to PC isn't 1080p even on high is it. Did they ever say it would be 1080p in the future?

Only downside of the feature for me but still very very impressive.

Anyone check their resource usage? I'm having weird issues where task manager is showing 100% CPU usage though things like RealTemp and such are showing no such thing. Task manager will have a different program running 60+% CPU on me every second from nvidia, teamspeak, edge, task manager itself, razer synapse, and it never ends. I tried to do clean booting but nothing is seemingly resolving this. Played a few games with it pegged out and both the games and other services ran fine.

I'm wondering if there's just an error with task manager's reporting?

I've had the same problem this whole time. Not sure what to do about it.

Is there any way to force an update now? I'm still not getting a notification through Windows Update. I manually went into Windows Update and don't see it listed. I even did Check for Updates Now and it still isn't listed.

Also I'm curious if users with custom built systems are experiencing more issues that those with stock or store bought.

Custom built PC here. Did the USB installer (and just ran from my hard drive, didn't even have to load onto a USB stick). Install went smoothly, and other than my desktop image being a little pixelated (which is a problem with previous windows versions), there are no problems I can find.

Can people with Windows 10 confirm this with me....

When you click on the START button, go a little up into SETTINGS. Once there go to the ACTIVATION Tab.

Can you guys actualy activate your windows? It's not working for me. I have a valid windows 7 copy, i still have my Win 7 key. During installation i was not asked to enter it, which i think is normal but my copy of windows 10 doesnt seem to be activated....

1. Install all required, recommended, and optional updates (ensure they succeed)
2. Delete all the contents of the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
3. Run this command as administrator: wuauclt.exe /updatenow
4. Run windows update (it should start installing Windows 10).

This worked like a charm for me last night. If you get an error repeat steps 2-4 until it succeeds.

Usb problems up the fucking wazoo after upgrading to W10. Suddenly my usual usb ports for keyboard and mouse don't work. Also, i miss my windows 7 aero themes BAD. It was free and i still feel regret. Thinking of switching back tbh..

I had to try a few times before it worked. Wait a while and try later.
My guess is that their activation servers are under heavy load right now.

Have been messing around for a few hours now.
- The Xbox thing is terrible. Had to deactivate the DVR function to stop horrible stuttering, but I had to log in to the service in order to do that, and logins were slow as hell.
- Can't activate my copy. Hope that it is just server issues because I have been confirmed for an upgrade and everything.
- The Setting vs Control Panel way of just randomly having discreet or overlapping settings all over the place is quite frankly worse than it's ever been. I'm really dreading having to do phone support down the line when my company starts using this OS more because they have moved a bunch of standard settings to different places and there is no way to predict where you'll find a given setting.

Everything else seems fine though. And the upgrade process was really painless for me. I'm also looking forward to checking out more advanced stuff with Powershell down the line. And do anyone know when we can expect full fledged DX12 games?

I feel like Windows 10 is some exclusive club I'm not being let into because I'm wearing flip-flops or something.

I've had the $WINDOWS.~BT folder since 8:23 this morning, but it's only 20 KB in size. I've tried the whole delete items from SoftwareDistribution downloads folder and updating wuauclt.exe (or whatever) in command prompt, but it just doesn't take. Windows 10 icon is gone from the taskbar, too.

I was wondering this because i want to do the FRESH install. The product key (cd key) seem to have changed because they show me the last part of the cd key and its very different of my windows 7 key....

It's automatically activated for me. Not sure if you need to use your MS account to register the windows though.

Those who didn't get their windows 10 activated did you sign into a Microsoft account before and after the installation?

If not try signing in on Windows 10.

So if i upgrade from Windows 7 is it a simple straightforward process?

What I mean is will everything still work without instilling new drivers, software etc?

Like iTunes, graphics drivers, Usenet programs, Chrome cookies.

Is like to upgrade but I'm worried stuff won't work, particularly my NAS setups and shares.

Is it stable?

I got it working about an hour ago, but that was after several attempts, each with some time in between. I also was never asked for a key during installation, it just worked.

So probably just too many people trying to activate, don't really know. Maybe I got lucky that time it finally worked.

Nope it dosnt say, but i kept hitting the ACTIVATE button like the other person said and it FINALY did activate :) Kinda silly that your Windows 10 copy isnt even activated, and i just STUMBLED on that settings thing by chance. Now to figure out what my new cd key is for windows 10 so i can actualy do a fresh install.

Fyi Firefox is broken in Windows 10 if you did the about:config tweaks for enabling vsync. Disabling those tweaks fixes it.

Windows 10 is interesting. Gonna have to get used to it.

Yeah, servers are definitely getting hammered. It's the reason they opted for a slow roll-out.

I don't think i ever even had a account on windows 7, if by account you mean my Email account with microsoft, i have one yes but i never used accounts stuff with windows 7...

Personally I think this has improved a lot over Windows 8. Pretty much everything a typical user will ever need is now in the Settings app. Unless I'm forgetting something I can't think of any reason why they'd need to access the Control Panel.
