If Alex makes it in, it will make it very easy to tell if it's pre SF3:TS or after. If his skin is light then it's before, if it's Red and Blue it's after.

Yep, I want so that if Juli or Maki gets in I want to her punk ass to look into my Chun-Li's eyes and know how much she ain't shit.

My favorite was always Gief. He just looked even more pissed

I think Ono talked about adding battle damage to characters in-game during the design of SFIV but they ended up being worried about the ESRB rating. I would think damaged portraits would fall along a similar line. Although I remember reading something about SFV possibly getting an M rating anyway, so who knows? Probably too late at this point to add damage to the characters either way.

I feel like they were gonna add mid-match battle damage, the ESRB deemed the game to be rated M because of said battle damage, & Ono removed it so SFV could maintain a T rating. I have no evidence for this, it's just a gut feeling.

Trust that gut feeling.

This would actually make sense -it's a thing in MK, not so much in other games.

Hm, now that you mentioned it, I'm not sure if this has been discussed or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if Gill was Alex from some sort of time travel experiment, sort of like what is going on with Necalli. I mean the last game was called Fight for the Future for a reason and considering Alex is considered to be the main protagoinist in the III series.

They share extremely similar appearance.

I was always wondered about the ending why Alex becomes like the son offspring of Gill/Christ/ending in the ending, but I think it's starting to connect.

There hasn't been anything so far to indicate a M rating. Seems like regular street fighter so far.
There was a post on the official Street Fighter Facebook page mentioning that Street Fighter V was rated M around the time of E3 2015. It showed up as the promoted post of the page for a while.

O.O

If they really removed it for that reason instead of trying to tweak it so that the damage wouldn't warrant that M-rating, then that would suck imo.

I've always wished they'd show some wear and tear on the characters (mostly in a humorous way, not a gory MK style one mind you), so to read it might actually have been planned at some point but not come to fruition because of the ESRB? Man, that stinks!

Once again, I have literally zero evidence for that post (nor do I have any inside information on the matter). It's just an educated guess based on what we already know. That being said, it wouldn't be the first time a game was impacted by the ESRB in hopes of gaining a particular rating. Smash 3DS had to remove the Tharja trophy to maintain its E10+ rating.

You mean Alex.

Sure, I realize we're all just speculating for the most part. Still, would have been cool if they had kept it in, if the character damage existed at some point that is, which could have been the case.

Gill is future Alex confirmed

Fight for the Future!

Heck, why not go with this theory indeed!

Also, on a completely unrelated sidenote: can someone explain to me why I see my avatar as that sheep from the New Zealand Waterfall stage on my ipad while it is meant to (still) be the swimming Gon that I'm seeing on my mac (and used to see on my ipad as well)? It's freaking me out a bit! (I don't think my account is hacked because I still see my Gon avatar there, so could a mod actually be signaling me by making this sheep appear?) Edit: it solved itself somehow.

Meh, fighting games don't need battle damaged anything. Mortal Kombat looks the worse for it (even if it makes sense for it.).

Have you tried clearing your cache on Safari on your iPad? I see Gon btw.

While we're waiting for more news, I keep looking at the half of the roster we have and finding it odd we don't have a single street fighter 3 character yet. I know we can never know, really, but I do wonder why. You'd think they'd have shown at least 1 by now.

Why would battle damage necessitate an M rating when in T-rated Uncharted you kill human beings with a gun and there are blood effects?

Does a beat up person's face (a fighter no less, who has consented to combat and survives the encounter) count as more violent than a body count in the hundreds?

I wish post round attacks would make it in. It was always cool seeing a bit of personality from people. Sometimes they would spare you and just let you slump to defeat, or maybe if you've gotten under their skin they would nail you one last time after the round was over. It was a simple thing, but it had a lot of feeling attached to it at times.

The Japanese REALLY hate those in the arcades. It's like throwing in SF2 levels of hate. SF and VF both removed them for that reason.

In terms of ESRB ratings, I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, you could make a decent argument that the scene in Indiana Jones when the guy waves his sword around and Indy just shoots him could be considered less gratuitous than a Rocky movie where you see close-ups of skin rippling after a brutal punch to the face.

yeah..it will be interesting if capcom continues with Alex and his connection to Gill

I think Alex may have some connection to Necalli as well, they share the same V type mark going on in the face and body,
latest
.

But, I don't know, that part may be a coincidence.

This could be a good catch actually! Edit: though now that I think about it, Alex's shoulder/chest markings always appeared more like scars to me, while the red under his eyes seems to be paint. Did we ever learn why he has these scars? Surely not from his suspenders, right?

If you guys permit me one more small side note: do you (or anyone else here) happen to have a hi-res version of the image on the left with all the characters? I've been looking for it for some time as I had planned to have it printed on a t-shirt, but with little luck so far.

As far as I know, it's by Akiman and it was used for a small jigsaw puzzle that came with the Japanese collector's edition of 3rd Strike on PS2. Not sure if this was the only use for it ever though. I have seen it pop up on a mug on Ebay at some point but can't find that anymore either.
