Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

TBH, all they have to do in the private press is just drop a bomb for DLC

For only $15 a month you get "Rock Band Unlimited" which is our new music subscription service that gives you access to our entire catalog of roughly 4,200 songs and future DLC as long as you stay subscribed.

why? you could still buy DLC as you always have, but for those who don't have the money to drop money on 4,000 DLC it would be a god send, not to mention if they add in an online component down the road it would be perfect. Pay $15 a month and you and your buddies could enjoy all the goodness online without worrying who has what. I'd cancel my Spotify for a sub service.

As long as I can still buy it, I don't care what they want to do vis-a-vis a subscription service.

yes, I would never want them to remove the current model where people could still regularly buy their DLC. But this would change everything for those on the fence, because no longer would people be held back by the system they have all the DLC on. They could just subscribe for $15 and continue on like they didn't lose anything.

I think they would of had to license for this at jump street. I think it is so incredibly unlikely that its not really worth dreaming about. If a form of that ever came it would have to be planned for now and it would probably only ever provide a fraction of the DLC and never really all of it. In theory its great for us but I just don't see it being practical for HMX

Yeah, this. I wouldn't hold out hope for it.

I rather spend $15 for DLC a month, then sign up for a subscription.

Have not been following super closely but I have an original RB drum kit and guitar plus and Ion drum kit for ps3. Will all this work on PS4? Just wondering if I should get the band in a box or just the game.

If its wireless with a dongle it will work. If not then no/not yet at least.

I'm fairly new but somehow got hooked to Rock Band. I have none of the old games, but will I be able to purchase out of all of the 4000x songs individually or is there a need (other than price) to get the old games?

"At Night In Dreams" by White Denim

Happy to see this song here, really like White Denim.

Not really happy with the rest of the set list so far though IMO. There seems to be a lot of very recent material from bands that really don't tickle my fancy, not enough classic rock, 80's/90's alternative/grunge/new wave stuff and not enough truly brutal metal. Guitar Hero is getting an Architects song and a few heavier songs.

Now with links for those like me who are usually too lazy to copy and paste to search.

I know, right? It's funny, multiple said they didn't care for them and would remove them from the game/not play them. MUSICAL TASTES ARE FUNNY THINGS. I think the over all set list is super strong (including unannounced stuff), but I know we're not going to please everyone (and probably outright disappoint some, because... MUSIC). But I think we're in a good space.
It's awesome. I assume there's a chance we'll get more Lightning Bolt down the line? I've always dreamed of playing Dracula Mountain or Captain Caveman or Dead Cowboy on RB. Do they even have stems for that stuff?

Also, that 4 Non Blonde's song is THE JAM, DON'T HATE. There was some internal strife about including that on the soundtrack, and I'll have you know I brought it up in every meeting until someone caved. SORRY/NOT SORRY.
Do not apologize. That song is fun as hell lol.

But a subscription-based service ends up being cheaper overall. Say you were a crazy (like I was) and bought all the DLC that came out every week. Well, then you were spending a minimum of $22 a month (four 3-packs at $5.50 each). A $15 monthly subscription is cheaper than that, and you'd be happy to pay that from month to month as long as you were playing, as you'd keep getting access to the new stuff (for cheaper than usual).

Once you've stopped playing, it doesn't matter if you have the DLC or not, because you're not playing anymore. I've got 3000 songs or whatever (bought all the HMX DLC + a bunch of RBN songs + exports), and it's as if I don't have any of it anymore because I never play the game.

I really, really like this series. If I stop playing for a while, I'd like to know I can come back to it from time to time and be able to play the songs I'm interested in. That includes times when this game is long forgotten-about and everyone else is on PS7 Or whatever.

It just has that timeless quality, for me. Yeah, I might not play it every day... But it's there when I have a party or get the itch.

Take, for example, RB3. Had they had a subscription model in place back then, do you think it would still be running? What if you'd wanted to play sometime in the last 2-3 years? You would've most likely been stuck with whatever's on the disc

I think most casual players might find that too expensive to stay subscribed to, and I think for hardcore DLC buyers it would lose money for Harmonix. As a rough estimate, the demographic who buys ~1500 songs would normally generate ~$3k for HMX. If those types of consumers subscribed for $15 a month instead, it'd take over 16 years to generate that same revenue from those people who want nearly everything.

I don't see a subscription service ever happening for Rock Band because of licensing issues and because I'm not sure it would be advantageous for Harmonix.

The hardcore players would still buy the DLC regardless but core players would end up subscribing the months they end up using it rather then intimidated by the 4200 songs with all the money they would have to drop at once. This way they play what they want, cancel whenever. Few months later come back, resin again or just buy the songs they want finally.

Either way those who have bought tons of DLC will continue to do so. But those who would never even bother may check out the service and even subscribe giving them a plethora of songs to play with.

4 Non Blondes – What’s Up?
The Black Keys – Fever
Disturbed – Prayer
Duck & Cover – Knock Em Down
Eddie Japan – Albert
Fall Out Boy – Centuries
Halestorm – I Miss The Misery
Heart – Kick It Out
Heaven’s Basement – I Am Electric
Lightning Bolt – Dream Genie
Rick Derringer – Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo
Rush – A Passage To Bangkok
Scorpions – No One Like You
Slydigs – Light The Fuse
Soul Remnants – Dead Black (Heart of Ice)
System of a Down – Spiders
White Denim – At Night In Dreams

I should've known they'd try to squeeze Lightning Bolt into this series somehow.
ugggh Disturbed.

Alright all songs added, now to add some consistency to the already amazing playlist. Post a 3 pack from the same band for the Spotify playlist.

Those who had RBN will remember this band and they definitely did not get enough to tracks. Insanely complicated guitar tracks, fun complicated drums and clean vocals truly made them stand out. They only had two songs released for rock band. Here's my 3 from the band "I Am Abomination"

Iam Abomination - Invisible Titans

I am Abomination - Since 1776

I am Abomination - To Rebuild

"A Certain Romance" or we all gonna rally
My man. So psyched in anticipation of what the track could be. I'd love for something/anything from their first three albums, but I feel like it's most likely another song from AM (which would still be awesome). I'm going to be disappointed if it turns out to be Brianstorm though... just because it was already in Guitar Hero 5.

Thought about this for awhile as there's a lot of bands out there that have or haven't been in Rock Band that deserve to have more songs. Ultimately I went with a big name that I would love to have in Rock Band. (Also, I'm cheating a little by throwing in those intros.)

"Eruption" segue into "You Really Got Me" by Van Halen
"Little Guitars (With Intro)" by Van Halen
"Hot For Teacher" by Van Halen

Obviously a band like Van Halen has tons of songs I'd like to see in Rock Band, so this was a hard choice narrowing it down to three. This would be my personal preference of songs, though.

you do know Van Halen had its own guitar hero game, right?

Yes. And I've played it and the $0 I spent on it was more than it was worth, in my opinion.

Like I said, personal preference to see those on Rock Band, just like the people wanting to see Metallica or different Aerosmith, despite them having their own Guitar Hero game.

Yeah, I love Van Halen, and I got the game for free, too, but it's probably the worst Guitar Hero game I've played.

And it was awful to play on any instrument that wasn't drums.

A Certain Romance would be awesome. If it's from AM, I'm hoping for Fireside. Do I Wanna Know wouldn't be much fun, I don't think. Most of that album wouldn't be that much fun since we already got R U Mine.

I just can't wait to play Kings and Queens by 30STM again.....one of the just most......uplifting drum songs I have ever played....its so beautiful.

When You Lose I Lose As Well - Poison the Well (Post-hardcore/Metalcore)

Saint Veronika - Billy Talent (Alternative Rock)

Outnumbered - The Devil Wears Prada (Metalcore)

Neon Jesus - Dead and Divine (Post-hardcore/Metalcore)

The Ringleader & Nonus the Hobo - The Venetia Fair (Post-hardcore/Alternative Rock)

Youth Cats - Secret and Whisper (Post-hardcore/Alternative Rock)

Clarity - Protest the Hero (Progressive Metal/Mathcore)

Amends - The Ongoing Concept (Metalcore/Post-hardcore)

Begin - Haste the Day (Metalcore)

Developments - Hands Like Houses (Alternative Rock/Post-hardcore)

I want so many more, but this will do for now.
