Thors was great again, that eulogy was amazing.

It furthered what we've seen over the last few weeks, with
Odinson sounding like he's our guy, the dude who died fighting the Beyonders.
The phrasing was vague enough that it could be another of Aaron's red herrings but if it's him, it raises a number of questions about the scope of Doom's reconstruction.
At this point, it's entirely possible that on the other side of this, everyone will remember their 616 lives and that will be that. IIRC, that's pretty much what happened to the New Mutants in Secret Wars II. They died and later on, the Beyonder just brought them back to life.

Im assuming that only works with 616 like variants. So what happens to all the dupes?

Yeah, that's the elephant in the room I keep coming back to when I think about it.
The way I see it, there's only three ways this can end:
- there's a new multiverse where dupes populate the other universes.
- some kind of culling happens and most characters end up with only one "true" version of themselves. Alternatively, a Deus Doom ex Machina occurs where every variant is somehow rolled into one version.
- dupes are running around the new MU and mayhem ensues.

We know that non-616 characters like Old Man Logan or Miles will be part of the new MU so anything can go. Miles isn't a good example though as he's an actual survivor, not a recreation.

Someone on Facebook just asked about a Superman vs Hulk fight, and of course somehow Thor got brought into it.
It made me go back and read Thor and Hyperion's last stand from Time Runs Out. Damn, such an awesome moment.

Battleworld is sticking around after the event, and IIRC dupes were confirmed in that CoC book?
Whoa, I had no idea. This would take care of that, then.

Yes. New Avengers #32 is my favorite issue of the whole run, #33 being right behind for different reasons. Reading NA #32, #33 and Secret Wars #1 back to back works wonders.

Between this and that scene on Hala in Infinity where Thor singlehandedly turns the public perception of the war, Hickman can write a fantastic Thor.

"We drank it all, Brother" still gets me.

That Thor Hyperion bromance was so good.

Goddamn, I am fucking pissed off.

I just spent the last two days reading all of Avengers and New Avengers leading up to SW using the penny deal on Marvel Unlimited. I get to Avengers #41 and all of a sudden, I can't keep going because it hasn't been six months.

WHY THE FUCK WOULD THEY HAVE HE ISSUES UP IF I CANT FUCKING READ THEM!!!!???

I never would've started if I knew I couldn't finish them. Fuck this, I'm gonna look for scans when I get home on my computer.

What? You can still buy them, both on Marvel Digital and on Comixology. The half-year rule of a service where you pay a flat (or in your case, avoid even most of that) for reading everything that's older hasn't been a secret ever.

If your answer to that is shouting "FUCK EVERYONE IMMA GO STEAL SHIT" the problem isn't the service, dude.

This is just the weirdest rant. I feel like I'm missing something important here.

LOL...

Heaven forbid you buy the last few issues you need.

I feel like this is a "you" issue, and not a "they" issue...

I just realized that the Miles on the cover could very well be the original Ultimate U Miles.

Who's excited for Renew your vows #3? I know I am.

Liked Civil War and Spider-Island as well, so this could be a good week.

Forgot about this yesterday

This week's Secret Wars books:

Age of Apocalypse #2
Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #3
Civil War #2
Future Imperfect #4
Giant Size Little Marvel AVX #3
Guardians of Knowhere #2
Infinity Guantlet #3
Ms Marvel #17
Red Skull #2
Siege #2
Spider-Island #2
Ultimate End #3

Looks like everyone will be eating raman for dinner this week.

EDIT: Also, 8 days to Secret Wars #5

Renew Your Vows man, what the shit. Why you gotta do that shit Slott? Why you gotta hit where it hurts? If nothing else, this book is showing why we can't have a Parker family. Imagine someone like Miller writing this shit? I'd cry.

Yep, pricey one for me this week!

Cross posting from the Comics thread

Secret Wars #6 Midtown Variant

What a cocky douchebag
I love it

First time also seeing all those comics, holy moly. Would like to read at least the lead up to Secret Wars. Appreciate how Marvel has split the comics into sections; ones that actually push the Secret Wars plot forward being easy to see.

So Bendis waits until Ultimate End #4 to make sense of the story?
1610-Miles coming in hot!
Still meh. Less messier though.

Civil War #02 is good. I know some are a bit down regarding it, but man I love all the mystery surrounding it. Pete's an asshole btw.
Irresponsable with your powers in the Blue? They take away your powers.

Spider-Island #02 is fun.

Renew your vows #3 is my favourite. Pete in the black is great and
yoooo he fucked up Ock good.

Siege keeps being a great book, with strong characterization, gorgeous spreads of the wall and tying several books together (as every wall exile ends up in Siege).
It's really in my top tier for tie-ins along Thors and Weirdworld. Depending on how it evolves, Captain Britain could end up there too.

Ultimate End wasn't bad, it made way more sense than the previous issues.
Super curious to see how things will turn out with Miles coming in. Old Man Logan's might play a part too.

These Last Days books are depressing, it's like reading SW#1 again and getting kicked in the nuts again and again and again.

So far, I think it's still the best event Marvel has ever done, not that there was that much competition though.

There have been plenty of good events. All the Abnett & Lanning cosmic ones for instance, the Starlin Infinity Events, Michael Korvac, OG Secret Wars I & 2, Operation Galactic Storm, and on and on.

are those really events if no one ever heard of them? (except for secret wars)

the cosmic stuff is basically linked because it was like "okay, no one cares, you can tell one big story".

events are classified by low selling books being faux boosted by crossovers. all the cosmic stuff was just a bunch of low selling books that happened to be telling one big story

this again! get that talk outta here, ben! :P

I didnt like half the stuff on your list though. The Abnett/Lanning books are awesome, Infinity Gauntlet was great at the time, the Korvac Saga is great but it's just an Avengers arc, and I found everything else not very good. I mean, I have fond memories of the original Secret Wars toys but the book itself doesn't get interesting until the last three issues.

I think they've gotten better as I loved Infinity and found Original Sin very solid but most of the stuff I see listed on the Wikipedia page listing Marvel events isn't really my cup of tea. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Publication_history_of_Marvel_Comics_crossover_events

I guess the point is that as a non-event/crossover guy, I'm finding this one really good.

My vision is absolutely clouded by a decade of stuff like House of M, Civil War, Secret Invasion, World War Hulk, Siege, Fear Itself and AvX. I found these ranged from passable at best to awful.

Red Skull spoilers:
There's a chance that both Red Skull and Magneto remember things prior to Battleworld

In Thors #2
Odinson definitely remembers
and in Guardians of Knowhere #1
Gamora knows or has a very strong hunch. Either way, she seems convinced Doom isn't on the up and up.

so pretty much the return of the 616 characters(most notably reed) is most likely putting him under some sort of stress thats making him lose his control over certain characters. i wonder what a full blown richaaaards shouting doom would do
