Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Holy shit, I'm not lying when I'm saying this is one of the best things I've ever watched when it comes to gaming. My jaw was somewhere on the floor during the whole FOB portion!

And here I was sad that MGO3 is only launching in October! Not anymore!

If it takes up certain personnel for each piece of R&D, meaning researching/building everything is sequential then 20-40 minutes for everything will add up very quickly.

I think it fits well with the majors changes to the SP story. It's not just a linear sequence of events but very much like Ground Zeroes from what we have seen. It may take some time but it looks like there will be lots of content to play while it happens, instead of just not playing and waiting for it to happen.

Extensive detailing of gameplay systems while avoiding story spoilers and examples of possible encounters. This is how you sell me on a game.

Basically my only worries at this point are:

1. Build times and resource grinding. Peace Walker was terrible about this, making me replay the awful mech fights over and over for zeke parts, among other things. Build times could also be inflated for microtransaction or playtime reasons as well, considering konami.

2. Story worries. While I liked Big Boss's character arc, the Boss AI in peace walker was so absolutely stupid that I'm terrified we might get something on that level again.

Both of those problems aren't really something that will be addressed before release anyway, and I'll have to wait for player impressions. Still, the game looks great gameplay wise, and while I'm still salty about health regen, it looks like a lovely way to close out the series.

Why would you want to do that? It's stormy weather outside, heavy winds. Both injured severely. The success rate for fultoning both Chico and Paz out safely are extremely low ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I don't really ever want to do that, because I think the Fulton mechanic strips away entirely the tension for what MGS stood for: infiltration and extraction missions. But, any soldier calling the sprinkling drizzle conditions in Cuba during GZ as too low to operate should be discharged. I wouldn't want them recruited in my private army at all.

I hope there's a somekind of matchmaking system in place that prevents high level players from invading newbie FOBs.

Since FOB can be created only when the MB is maxed out [and that can't be early in the game], there will not be many newbies. Everyone will know not only the basics but also many advanced tactics.

That looked incredible! I can already imagine the tension when someone invades and starts stealing the stuff I stole from the enemies.

Looks like Kojima is going out with a bang. It will be interesting to see what his replacement does.
Something tells me it's all downhill from here.

Hopefully we get some info about development time soon, seems like there will be a ton of equipment to unlock so I agree it could definitely take a very long time to get everything.

to be honest, the wait timers don't seem like a huge deal and aren't dissimilar to how they worked in peace walker. in fact they're probably better, as you had to go complete missions to get the PW timers to tick down, while these will count down in minutes regardless of what you're doing.

It's more about visibility than anything in that situation.

I think that's what they are going for. MGO is designed to add life to the game with a MP component. Everything we are seeing looks like they want people playing this for the foreseeable future and not just until they beat the main story missions. I would expect getting everything you possibly can for the base to take maybe a year of play.

DD growing as you play is great too:alludes to
game taking place over years

Guys, I just realised something...

If the game
takes places over a number of years
would that mean that...
DD dies of old age?

If that happens... Oh Kojima, you bastard.

The first person to take one of my animals I will hunt them down and I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger.....nah it's all good, this awesome!
Most likely I'll hold off on creating FOB's until I really know what I'm doing

Anyone notice the 35 minute build time for the R&D platform?

I don't think there is anything to worry about here.

Peace Walker had build times, but they were mission based IIRC. Complete 1+ missions for research/construction to complete. For MGSV the missions are huge in scale, as opposed to the bitesize ones in PW. It would make sense for the timing mechanism to be altered. Things should take time and, frankly, 35 minutes for a R+D facility sounds reasonable. You shouldn't be having one pop up at your convenience.

Peace Walker, the true most important game of the series.

That teleport jehuty fist, that stealth camo, that support being able to change weather conditions to fuck with the enemy.

This game.

Also, if things were built instantly, then we wouldn't be having construction boxes falling on Big Boss now would we?

This is only thing that bothers me. It does like it could be balanced around microtransactions in order to speed things up. Other than that, the game looks mind blowing.

I'm glad that the item development is based on time rather than missions being played like in Peace Walker. It should help make it feel like less of a grind since I can turn the game off and still develop items.

Everything about that presentation was AMAZING! I seriously can't wrap my head around all the options at your disposal.

Motherbase is turning out to be everthing I hoped for and more.

No matter what happens in FOB [my stuff being stolen], my Motherbase will remain protected.

And FOB can be created only when MB is maxed out, so I will by then fully learn all the gameplay systems and my manufacturing facilities will be safe.

And the second you FOB is up I will be there to rob you. :P

This is like Metal Gear universe. Basically this is custom bases users create that others can invade. Combine that with all the abilities available to the player and the possibilitues are insane.

I am giddy right now.

Whoa, can't wait to sink my teeth into this one. Gameplay looks absolutely on-point as far as Mother Base and the invasions go. My excitement is through the roof after finally seeing this thing in action.

Mhm. An FOB is basically the ultimate MGS challenge-You're invading a base with no intel on it, trying to sneak your way while causing damage. It's like MGS1 but on crack with an enemy player trying to counter you.

Same, I can see myself sinking like 200+ hours into this easily

The build time was 35 minutes. That's nothing. You go and play a mission and then it'll be built. I think that's the point is as long as you weave your play of the regular missions in with mother base development like you're supposed to, these timers won't be an issue at all.

This Forward Operating Base system will make the game replayable ad infinitum, given the customization of each players' base and how expansive each may be. I mean, I FLIPPED when I saw that you can enter INTERIORS!!!!!!!!!!! OH, MY GOD. Like, what. When he was sneaking around what looked like a botanical garden at the end, I mean, sweet Jesus, I don't know if I will ever scratch the surface of this game's insanity.
