Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

I would laugh out loud for real if P.T. was hidden in Mother Base and you had to do a few things to trigger the ability to play it as a hidden installer/executable for all "next-gen"/current-gen platforms as a fuck you to Konami from Kojima.

I also didn't know you could explore Mother Base. YES at this. I've been wanting that ability since Peace Walker.

Well, they did put another game into MGS3...

so, now that we know everyone's motherbase will be custom designed
when we switch to controlling solid snake in the last 3rd of the game and have to infiltrate mother base(outer heaven) everyone will have a unique experience because all of our mother bases will be different

Lol. Not only that, but all of your hardwork in building up motherbase with advanced tech and defenses, including the very soldiers you recruit, will be used against you, assuming this is even gonna happen.

yep, exactly

i've been thinking about this all afternoon
at this point, if it doesn't happen i'm gonna be super bummed now

I really hope that you aren't too negatively impacted by failing to address a base raid. Given that my defenses are going to be infiltrated by MGS superfans that know what they're doing, I feel that some losses are going to be inevitable unless I personally show up to stop it.

That's my hope, I'm sure it's possible to fortify a base enough that you don't have to defend it every time you get invaded, guess we'll see in a few weeks.

Probably there still gonna be many presets and areas than can only be costumized. But the trailer implies that you will be free enough to have 'shortcuts' different from your enemy FOB base.

So many of us have the same idea of how this game should end, it seems to me that means Kojima will go a different route. It seems to obvious but so perfect. I hope it happens

You mean relatively bummed, right? This is still the game of the forever with everything else it's doing AND OMG ITS ONLY 27 DAYS AWAY!

I wonder what the system for regulating when you can be invaded are. Like, there's surely something that turns that off if you're in a cutscene or just about to punch Skullface in his face skull.

Something tells me that there will be a functional in-game store for advanced infiltration and defence equipments...

Ueergh, timers for things to get built?
My worst fears were true.
In peace walker you never had to wait x amount of real time to get things built, all you had to do was complete some quick missions and stuff would get built. If you completed missiosn quick the stuff was built quick, now you can't do anything cept pay money to speed things up.
This new real time waiting sounds awful!

This all looks pretty awesome. I've been anticipating that I'd ignore all of this and turn off as many online elements as I could, but this actually looks fun. I especially like the idea of trying to infiltrate someone else's base.

Looks amazing and I can't wait, not sure I like the idea of being able to Fulton out enemy turrets etc.. From the battlefield

Do we know if Konami will support Motherbase/FOB management via iOS/Android app, like in Ground Zeroes?

This is one of the few second screen experience I wouldn't mind having.

It's 18 minutes. 18 fucking minutes.

Go to Afghanistan, fulton two soldiers and a jeep, come back - done. Let's not pretend this takes 3 days to build or something.

This new real time waiting sounds awfull!
I feel like if Peace Walker had real-time building like The Phantom Pain, then it'd be bad, but due to the different scales of both games I don't think having a timer for building stuff is too bad.

In PW, like you said, you can just do a couple quick missions and be done with it. There's not really a lot of room to try out new things, so the missions can go by in just a few minutes.

In TPP: "oh, 30 minutes to build this? Great, I've been meaning of trying out a couple different tactics/tricks on X/Y/Z mission, now's the perfect opportunity to mess around!"

That's just the way I see it anyway.

Is this game delayed? Read something on the net but not sure.

MGO3 is delayed, not MGSV. The narrator even mentions that the game is a month away.

I just noticed something that is sorely missing on the FOB invasion... The intruder isn't stealing sheep...

This is literally the only game I've seen anything of so far that screams next-gen...

...and it's a bloody cross-gen game.

Well played, Kojima. Well played.

This is where you can buy a speed up for 1.99. :(

That moe Paz. PEACE!

Frankly, I'll be too busy doing missions to care.

Not just you.

and that is.. what?

Basically FOBs are extended bases. Your Mother Base has a limit. After a while, you cannot expand anymore, so you make more bases, such as these extended bases to speed up your R&D or anything as you may feel. However, FOBs are online bases so enemies can invade it and steal your resources. You'd have to defend it when intruders show up. You can also invade other people's FOB bases.

You don't need to play online as well, but that would mean no FOB bases.

It starts out with short times, just like free to play games.
And these missiosn for your troops can even affect Snake's solo missions.
Need help on a mission from your troops? Gotta wait a couple of hours first!

You can carry on without doing extensive upgrades. Yes, it sucks that there is a time limit but it's not intrusive to the main missions.

That's Outer Ops, not R&D.

A couple of hours? Shit will be done for your next play session. Seems reasonable to me.

Feel the same way. I will be putting HUDREDS of hours into the game, so what if there are timers. It makes sense you have have R and D and engineers to make it, it's like a small base sim.

Xcom has timers and that is one of the greatest games ever.

Real build times are shitty garbage made for microtransactions. They don't serve any useful purpose for the player.

The first person to take one of my animals I will hunt them down and I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger.....nah it's all good, this awesome!
Most likely I'll hold off on creating FOB's until I really know what I'm doing
This is my number one take away. It was intimidating... But im gonna make sure i'm really good at the game before going for that portion of the game.

I think I'm confused.... So the FOB is NOT mother base?
Do we build Mother Base or just the FOB?

I'm going through the video now and they made it sound like the FOB is it's own thing (the diagram)

I think I'm missing what the difference is from MB and the FOB(s).

We can also have many different FOBs?

You're confusing two different things;

- base building
- Dispatch assignments

Assigning DD troops to missions and having them complete the mission takes time. In Peace Walker this was negated by doing a couple of missions, but given the handheld nature of the game that made sense. In this however the mission timer is in realtime. This is nothing new and is similar to other crew management games like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Black Flag. It's a balancing tool to prevent people from gearing/ranking insanely fast.

You can make satellite bases to Mother Base called FOBs. Those can be invaded.

I imagine 15-20 minutes (which seems to be average wait time for things to get built in MGSV) is the time it usually takes to complete a couple of missions in PW.

It's the same damn thing.

Mother Base is for single player, FOBs are for online.

Yes mother base is the non optional base and is part of the story. FOB are optional bases you can build to expand your resources but doing so opens you to online invasions of those FOBs. And judging by the video you can have three.

Not sure the levels of customization for both.

Yeah I'd probably use an app to do most of the MB/research stuff so all my actual playtime is spent completing missions... if such an app existed :/ And since they haven't talked about it less than one month from release, I'm not holding my breath.
