Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

I want to build the extra shit and I'd like to my friends to invade me and vice versa. That's not a lot to ask for is it? Why is it one way and no other way?

If you get rewards/experience for successfully defending your base, I could see that being exploited if you and friends just go back and forth attacking without really attacking just to get the defend points, or whatever. Not saying YOU would do that but, you know, the figurative "you".

Personally I always considered the endgame techs from peace walker to be effectively non-canon (IE the Stealth Gun). Same deal here.

Same.

The thing with the wormhole is that it seems to be the way that an enemy arrives on your FOB (there a 'Wormhole' marked on your map at what seems like the location to enemy player arrived on the base). It was that goofiness that seemed weird to me.

Isn't that just a spawning mechanic equivalent...?

Looks like the last game I will ever need. Took 2 days off work, first time since Diablo 3 (and that was a mistake). Special edition PS4 preordered from NCSX too.

6.6 GB version of the Gamescom demo. Torrent only of course :)

But it isn't acknowledged as a spawning mechanic. It's a wormhole.

A soldier from a rival organisation, who is killing/capturing your actual troops and stealing your actual resources, arrived on your base via a wormhole. It's just "what?".

It's just weird, where I imagine you could say that they parachuted onto the base. Or maybe they climbed up the side of the strut after swimming there (Raiden style). Or some other explanation that isn't teleportation.

Again, it just struck me as needlessly goofy. These wars between player FOB's being facilitated by wormhole technology. It isn't the end of the world or anything. Just something I felt a "what?" reaction to. But I don't have all of the facts; maybe it is considered in the game to be trans-dimensional combat between alternative universe versions of Mother Base.

Video games.

that show floor video is awesome. not too spoilery either.
and goddam d-walker is so nice in that vid. it has a knife/machete, head lights, and dual wielding sub machine guns. I wonder how long it takes to develop it.

Man I totally agree with you. You're not alone. This feels like a completely different game.
Aside from the open world structure and more fluid controls, how is the core single player gameplay completely different from past games?

MGS (well at least 3 & 4) were always really open ended. Action and stealth were both viable ways of completing objectives. Let's not pretend those games didnt feature over the top action. MGS4 had you fighting a giant mech while controlling another giant mech and MGS3 had an action-packed motorcycle chase

This is a world that has super advanced cyborg/bionic tech, a weather machine, cloaking devices, giant mechs, supernatural soldiers and ghosts. Why do wormholes stand out?

The amount of detail and stuff in this game is unprecedented holy shit. It seems unbelievable.

that's a Kojima productions staple if you ask me. if Konami ever plans on making another Metal Gear console game without them there's no way it will have this level of attention to detail. its barely ever replicated. Can you think of another game that goes this deep with detail?

Rockstar's games but that's about it. Your car radio getting static-y due to cell phone interference when you get a call, the dynamic weather in RDR, etc.

I guess I'm still not understanding a few things regarding FOBs.

Staff/supplies/equipment at FOBs are originally transferred there from MB that you have obtained from earlier playing, right? And then it can be expanded upon either by transferring more from MB that was obtained through single player or by invading another FOB? In this case, when invading other FOBs, can you then transfer those resources back to MB to enhance your single player or are they then "restricted" to only being available at your FOBs?

Just trying to find out what would be stopping me from setting up a basic FOB with limited resources, then just invading a ton of random locations and stealing what I can and then immediately transferring them to MB to mitigate risk of losing anything of value at my own FOB. Is there any kind of cooldown or penalties (outside of retaliation) that would stop me from invading bases non-stop?

Eh. Video games have rules about their internal universe.

They do, but its still a work of fiction and this is a separate mode from the single player game.

I understand what you mean, it does feel goofy, I just don't care and find it funny, like many other funny thing Kojima has put into MGS.

MGS1 Wolf pee + box comes to mind right now. Or all the freaky super powered bad guys the series has.

Since I don't want to burn myself out on Metal Gear before TPP in less than a month, but still want to brush up on the story I'm watching the games in movie form on youtube. MGS1 down (4 hours), MGS2 next (5).

Cool, could you link them? Much appreciated.

ps. love your avatar :P

Does it matter? Spawning mechanics are rarely addressed in games, at least not many. There you go: consider it a diegetic, semantic solution to the problem of spawning. At the end of the day, it's shorthand, man, like, remember rations...? ;D

I dunno, man. I find getting hung up on the 'reality' of the tech in a game like Metal Gear a bit like pissing in the wind. It's a game that not only has a very long list of prominent in-game fictional elements that defy the known laws of physics, but also goes out of its way to remind the player that they are playing a video game. That's just me though. If this were something akin to Splinter Cell or Arma3, I'd see your point, but this is a phallocentric, military, sci-fi, anime soap-opera at heart, not a hyper realistic war sim. Have some fun with it! :D

I don't think they've revealed any of that information yet. I imagine the limiting factor is going to be that anyone keeping anything of value in their own FOB is probably going to have it pretty heavily guarded. Maybe you actually have to 'succeed' in your invasion to keep all the stuff you've Fulton'd? That'd keep you from just sneaking into a base, stealing a few gun turrets and good soldiers then leaving immediately.

mos definitely Rockstar. They take their time and churn out the best open world games. MGSV won't match the open world of GTA, but that's obviously not what MGS is about. God we need a new RDR game so bad!

It would be so awesome if all animals you Fulton to the base became friendly towards you and acted as guard animals. Imagine an invader landing and bears and tigers immediately charged and attacked them.
