Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Just preordered the game from Amazon and took the following Wednesday off of work. I haven't played a video game since Bloodborne, but I'm planning to binge once again. :)

Same here, I'm coming back from holiday on the Sunday before release (the game should be delivered to me on the Saturday) but I'm not going back to work till the Wednesday ;).

I only ever got up to like the 3rd boss of Bloodborne though lol.

Can I set it so only friends can invade my base? I don't want every idiot invading me. Having an option that only lets people invade when you're actually on your base would be nice as well. I lke the idea of it but I don't want to have to worry about it every time I go on a mission.

I think that's part of the fun though. It's possible for people to invade your base even if you're not playing the game (if I understood correctly).

You can simply not built the other base so no one will invade you. Of course this mean no extra resource to you but i'm pretty sure you're not one of that guy who want the cake but not get fat

Seeing all the things you can do in this game..... I truly believe that Kojima ran with the money that Konami allowed him to use and treated it like a blank check. Everything is so detailed that I'm pretty sure, this might be the most expensive game pretty much ever. I would love to know the number but this is pretty overkill for a MGS game. While it looks fun, you can literally hear the money jingling when the tutorial guy is talking.

He wasn't frontin when he said this will be his last and greatest one. I see you Kojima... I see you..

Nvidia blog on the PC version

The important part:
Because so much of this game’s action depends on stealth, graphics are a key part of the gameplay. Shadows, light and terrain have to be rendered perfectly. That’s a huge challenge in a game where the hero is free to find his own way from one point to another. Our engineers are signed up to work closely with Konami to get the graphics just right and to add special effects.

Given the blog's emphasis on shadoing and lighting I imagine the game will take advantage of Nvidia Gamework's "Shadow Works": which adds hbao+ and Percentage Closer soft shadows (basically umbra penumbra shadows). The game has rather bad AO by default, so this is definitely going to be a welcome change if they make it. But who knows, it may be something else.

Important to note is that both those effects I mentioned above work on all hardware (AMD).

edit: making new thread

I want to build the extra shit and I'd like to my friends to invade me and vice versa. That's not a lot to ask for is it? Why is it one way and no other way?

I don't think destiny is losing the title of most expensive game, this one was rumored around 80 million I think.

Because that would be abused to hell and back. The point of the FOB is to get extra resources and income that your base alone won't get. I hope you can have your friends inspect your base at least.

This looked amazing. With all the crazy gadgets you can make for your player character (and presumably for your FOBs) there are so many possibilities for the invasion gameplay.

Also, lol at stinky Snake with flies around him if you neglect to take showers.

That's from the gamescom demo? Haven't gotten around to taking a look at it yet. If we can flood one of our FOBs with bears, change the paint scheme to match the fur colour to help them blend in..oh man.

You could also play offline if you don't want to deal with infiltrations, just treat them like Souls invasions.

You don't HAVE to build FOB's. They are entirely optional.

If you want possible invasions, build em, if not, don't.

Alternatively, simply go offline while playing.

Watch Dogs has it where you can disable invading. But you dont get access to the rewards of invading, online play, etc. And if you do invade and decide to turn it off later, you lose the rewards. What I do is just sign out of PSN. No invading, invaders. At the same time I get to keep any rewards I got. I dont know if this will be the same but for ppl concerned it should be an easy fix.

Whole invasions bit aside, has anyone noticed how badass the other Diamond Dogs look?

Playing as soldiers with better stats than Big Boss was actually one of my favorite parts in Peace Walker. Seeing them look badass here has me even more hyped!

This and the MB stuff is one reason why I didnt want to play PW. I wanted all this to be fresh for me. I am extremely hyped for this game...lol Even if I was like ...huh...at the fulton. I understand its from a game I didnt play in the series.

One play style could be to sit at MB and really be Big Boss, let others go out and do the dirty work. You only hop out there when absolutely necessary.

That's pretty much what I did in PW as soon as I started getting soldiers with stats better than BB.

Everything that wasn't Snake-only I did with them and I'm probably gonna do the same thing here as well.

Will this game have missions where you can go guns blazing and get an S ranking? Because all those weapons and war machinery go to waste if I am always encouraged in every single mission to go for a 0 alarms, 0 kills run.

Pretty sure you can, as they said in the demo you can call on friends for help during an invasion and since the mechanic is already there to visit a friends base, it would be strange if you can't just go there to chill out. But afaik there is no confirmation on this (apart from the help from a friend during invasions)

Found this: For starters, you'll be able to run a truly massive operation, if you're patient enough to acquire all the necessary resources. While Mother Base will only be a single, off-shore platform at the onset of the game, Kojima Productions says players will be able to add as many additional platforms to the complex as they can afford. Each will be fully customizable, explorable from top to bottom, and the team even says you'll be able to visit your friends' Mother Bases when Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain hits stores next year.

So you can visit the motherbase but probably can't visit the rest of the platforms, unless things changed, who knows!

This will quench my thirst for mgo for a little. Running around base with my best friend and causing havoc will be fun.

So if the invader fails, does that mean he is leaving empty handed or will he be keeping things he stole until he got caught.

He should keep the stolen items even if he fails IMO.

I think there should be a timer on each piece stolen imo. Otherwise, like someone pointed out earlier, it would be easy to just get stuff with little effort. Invade, get a few things you want/need, the minute the defenses find you, leave or give up. Voila, free stuff.

I can also see a bartering market of sorts, happening in game. Maybe even a thieves clan that goes around filling prerequisite orders for certain hard to get non/craftable, weapons/items in game, that are on peoples bases.

With players, where there's a will, there's a way.

Dang, Blim, wish I had more than PS4 at the moment.

Does the animal section mean I can't have a Mother Base full of goats as I was hoping? I'm sure I remember seeing a video with a goat in normal Mother Base

If I had a FOB full of bears nobody would dare try to invade me...

You don't get a rank for side ops so you could go guns blazing in those.

There's also non lethal snipers and assault rifles which shoot rubber bullets.

There are soooo many questions here that are easily answered by watching the gameplay video...
Yeeees, you can choose not to build FOBs and play offline that way.

That never made sense to me. Could they challenge Jack for the title of BOSS?
That would be cool, randomized boss fight against a new recruit who wants to be Boss
I understand perks and specialties can be different so you need to use a Botanist to get the best plants.

Its been said its like a "zoo" where all your animals go so I don't think animals will be running around anymore that was last years demo.

I talked about the possibilty of people getting their asses kicked by goats or rams. Not sure if animals have aggression AI on Mother Bases though. Would be hilarious.

Ahh, yeah, post above/below mine reiterates what was shown in video about the zoo. Forgot about that part.

So then how do I defend it? Lol. I have to rely on the security AI that I have?

That FOB is some Dark Souls invading shit, sounds like fun. But wouldn't it get annoying if you were invaded all the time?

You can choose not to respond and have your security teams deal with it. This way you can continue the mission. You are never forced to abort the mission to defend a FOB.

The invader has a much higher chance of accomplishing the mission though.

If Peace Walker is anything to go by you'll have so much staff and gear at some point that it really doesn't matter if someone invades and fultons some crew and gear.
