Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

no offense but can we have a separate thread dedicated to RB4 wish list setlists or something? i keep coming here thinking new information has been dropped only to see countless posts of songs/bands people want in the game. i thought that whole "post songs you want and i'll add it to a spotify playlist" thing was over? it will just create more disappointment when song x by band y isn't in the game and kinda takes this thread down the rabbit hole. or am i just being a grumpy old man telling the kids to get off my lawn?

Well, at least it is a break from the complaining about no online play.

But I feel kind of the same way. I have been having trouble coming back in here because of the constant stream of negativity and all the wishlist stuff. Granted, I did contribute to the wishlist stuff myself, so I don't have much of a right to complain there.

Yeah, there needs to be a separate song wishlist thread! Now that we know Breakneck speed is in, we still need the vital info on Xbone dongles: How many we need, how much, can we preorder? We need .... information!

I'll make a Wishlist thread in the community section so you guys can stop complaining despite all you contributing XD. But....I feel ya, see something bumped only to be a list of 3 songs and get mad hoping its general discussion or new info.

Just think though, the thread does garner more exposure being bumped by folks.

I'll make the thread later guys, for now hold off your requests till a later point in time.

Please link it when you do!

I just read you can't buy separate instruments at launch.

That's super disappointing for somebody who only wants to play drums.

Possible solution: coordinate with someone local who, at launch, wants a 2nd guitar and maybe needs an extra mic for harmonies. Split those off a bundle.

This is what I did w/ a friend of mine who only wanted drums on Rock Band 1, heh.

Just received a new short survey from Harmonix about RB4. I hope they get deluged with people letting them know that they aren't preordering until there's a game only/wireless dongle option.

these are the questions they ask if you hit "I haven't preordered the game"

As for 5 songs I'd like to see...

Mark Ronson Ft. Lily Allen - "Oh My God" (Kaiser Chiefs Cover)
Arcade Fire - "Month Of May"
My Chemical Romance - "The End/Dead"
Nine Inch Nails - "Only"
Brand New - "Mene"

So, I've actually given a listen to the track list so far and I actually really rather like it. I could go into detail about every song, but I'll just list the highlights, the surprises and the duds.

Highlights

"Toys in the Attic" - Aerosmith - At first I wondered why this song when there are other, more famous songs out there by the band, but listening to it again it's actually really rather good for everything. I plan to dig out GHA, remember why I loved everything about it besides Joe Perry's fretboard and play this to get me up for it.

"Kick It Out" - Heart - I do still want Crazy on You and Magic Man. But this song is still amazing. Heart's first two albums were really something special.

"Lazaretto" - Jack White - I bought all the White Stripes packs and the Raconteurs pack the moment I heard this song once it was announced. Was a fan of those bands, but never got the packs before. But this, damn, I love this. I really, really do. It sold me on the setlist already, and the first batch was really good.

"My God is the Sun" - Queens of the Stone Age - Love it. Love it, love it, love it. Smooth Sailing plz.

"A Passage to Bangkok" - Rush - My first thought after seeing this announced was "Why not Headlong Flight?" But after a while, that stopped being the point. I love Rush, anything is good, particularly more from 2112.

"At Night in Dreams" - White Denim - Psychadelic and sounds fun as hell on guitar. Really, a lot of the soundtrack sounds good, but this one stood out to me.

Surprises

"Hail to the King" - Avenged Sevenfold - I'm not really an A7X fan. Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country and Almost Easy I rather like. Shepard of Fire I don't mind, and I bought it more because it was new RB3 DLC than anything. Afterlife came with Track Pack 2 and I absolutely despise it. So Far Away is boring and whiny, and the rest I don't care about (though there's one there that I really hate, forgot the name). So I didn't know what to expect going into this song. It's not so bad. Definitely better than Shepard of Fire, could be rather fun.

"Halls of Valhalla" - Judas Priest - I'd never properly listened to Judas Priest, despite how much I liked Screaming for Vengeance. Would've preferred the studio version of British Steel for RB too, but that's neither here not there. Anyway, wasn't sure what to expect from modern Judas Priest, but it's really, really good.

"Dream Genie" - Lightning Bolt - It's noise rock. What the fuck is this shit? And why is it so good? Sounds like it'll be fun to play on guitar and bass. Were it not for the vocals it'd be the obligatory "final tier on everything" song.

"Birth in Reverse" - St. Vincent - I listened to it at first and thought it was okay, something that I'd listen to later. But...I found myself listening it again and again, more than anything I actually knew and liked from the soundtrack beforehand. It's really stood out to me.

Duds

"Centuries" - Fall Out Boy - Things started out so well for Fall Out Boy in Rock Band. Dead On Arrival is a brilliant bit of that emo/punk/pop genre. This Ain't a Scene is good, despite the awkward censoring, Dance, Dance I love and even though I hated Sugar, We're Going Down when I was in my teenage years I do respect it for what it is now. The other stuff like I Don't Care isn't that bad, but this song...It's just awful. It sounds so fake, produced, a formulaic hit that was made to play in football stadiums while waiting for things to happen. Plus it's such a departure from their early stuff which, while not always a bad thing, was in this case. It's like if you had a whole batch of good songs and picked this. It's like if there was a Maroon 5 song and Payphone was picked because it's modern rather than Harder to Breathe which is good.

And if a Maroon 5 song is in the game and it's Payphone is in the game as opposed to Harder to Breathe then congrats on Rock Band 4 having a worse setlist then Skrillex Hero Live.

---

There are other songs here and there that I liked but haven't clicked quite so well. At least not yet. Others aren't so bad but just really aren't my taste, such as the Soul Remnants song. And others I also really like, but I kind of wish were replaced with other songs. No One Like You is a great song, but I really want The Sails of Charon instead. It was on Gran Turismo 5 and it just stuck with me since then. Shame that it's not on Spotify though.

So far, the setlist might hasn't reached the high highs of Rock Band 3 (25 or 6 to 4, Free Bird, In the Meantime, Jerry Was a Race Car Driver, etc.) but on average it's really, really much better than RB3 so I'm looking forward to it, as well as the other, yet to be announced songs. Really, the only thing from it that I don't like is Centuries, and I really, really, really don't like it. RB1 is still king, but it always will be.

edit: removed requests until community thread is posted.

I did the survey earlier. I hope we see more track updates soon. I've been holding off on preordering because I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of tracks I won't enjoy.

Got that survey, but just to note for Harmonix if reading this, I wanted to select, 'I'm waiting to pre-order until a full set with digital code option is available', but that was not a survey choice.

The new RB4 mic has a lot of improvements. It feels like a professional mic.

just pick up a good USB shure mic

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PPPWIE/?tag=neogaf0e-20

sure, its $200 but its going to blow any mic you ever get with a video game out of the water.....plus it can be used for other recording applications as well.

if you are feeling really cheap.....just pick up a Audio Technica mic, they are pretty great too and only $60

Microphones that don't use the standard USB microphone driver will not work natively in Rock Band unfortunately (at least in all other Rock Band games). I actually just bought that Audio Technica mic and tried to use it in RB3 with its built-in USB, it didn't work of course.

My plan was to use an XLR to 1/4" adapter to plug it into my Rocksmith guitar cable, since Rock Band sees it as a USB mic. That didn't work either. RB3 picked up audio apparently, since the pitch was going up and down when I tested it, but apparently it outputs at such a low volume, it can't actually be heard.

Now I'm going to try to do a mod that uses an old Rock Band mic cable to connect it to the console. https://youtu.be/dGqO2ENlgpA

oh wow, good info......I have so many damn mics

does the AT2020 or blue yeti work?

edit: sounds like you need to get a cloud lifter or something to boost the signal......my XLR adapter actually bumps the sound by 50Db to have it output at a high enough volume to get a clear tone without having to manually up it in audacity. It basically acts as a preamp as most XLR mics do not output loud enough for most applications initially.

If you pick the "more details" option, you get another multi-select question with "No Online", "No Create-a-Character", "Instrument Compatibility" among some other options.

Wait, there's no Create-A-Character in the game? If true, that honestly irks me WAY more than no online.

same especially since the career stuff talked about thinks like unlockable clothing.

no online, not a big deal, but if you go back to earlier in the thread you can find me talking about how important a character creator is for me...

but I recall it being confirmed and can find that as well
“One of the things that we decided to go after was character creation, which was actually on the table as something we weren’t going to do,” she said, “but it turns out a bunch of fans wanted it, and we wanted to create it as well.”

if they have now not included it I will likely cancel my preorder and wait for the just disk version to get sub $30.

You have to be able to create characters! Seriously, If this is true.....

You can't cut such a basic thing. What's the point of an RPG mode otherwise?

Somebody got some splainin' to do!

Yeah, and that somebody is XShagrath, who misinformed everyone.

Because here's what the page actually says:

I fall in the "haven't pre-ordered yet but would prefer a bundle that comes with a digital code + XBox 360->XBox One dongle" group. But I know that probably won't exist so I filled out the survey saying that I hadn't pre-ordered yet because I'm waiting for a stand-alone digital version of the game to pre-order and then will hopefully be able to buy the dongle separately and have it on launch day so all my instruments work. Make it happen Harmonix/MadCatz because if you don't I will be stuck with the RB4 game but no instruments to play with except some old mics.

Totally expect a denial, but I wonder if the new guitars will work on the PS3...

the new cymbals won't even work on the old rock band 2 drum set. I can't think of any reason to think that the new instruments would work on the older games. It just wouldn't be a good allocation of resources to make the new instruments work for a 5 year old game on a dying platform.
