Rise of the Tomb Raider Syria Demo

Wow, this looked imcredible. Why didn't they show this at Gamescom or E3...

Too 'slow' for us the ADD audience who get bored if we don't see an explosion every 20 secs.

Hence they instead show her killing people instead. Not the only game that gets shown on stage at trade shows that has to be made with that audience in mind.

No impressed at all, just adventure stuff and exploring Tombs, boring.
Was Bloodrage one of the people clamp ring for more tombs? Because if not, this statement is dumb.

I'm really exctied for this game. It would actually be a nice bonus if you preorder this you get Tomb Raider 2013 xbox 360 version as a download. I think they would compliment each other very nicely. Perhaps some people missed the first one.

I think that these set pieces and constant near death experiences really lose their impact if they occur every 30 seconds. Plus her hair looks like she's constantly underwater.

CD meetings must have went like "uncharted amplified TO THE EXTREME!".

Agreed. Seemed like every step she takes, the ground is crumbling out from beneath her..lol. Moderation is the key, especially when the player least expects it to happen.

I must say that the game looks absolutely stunning. Hopefully CD will allow the players to take in the scenery and enjoy the beautiful art direction of the tombs ansd temples at their own leisure rather than throwing QT events for every step Lara makes..lol.

The hair looks 'try hard'. Game itself looked like Uncharted. That's cool I guess. Hope UC4 doesn't have any exp notifications though. That broke all the immersion....

Fair enough, imo it's not the type of game that lends itself well through multiple playthroughs, I did it twice too, once on pc and again on PS4 but I wouldn't have but for the remastered version. Same as Uncharted.

Do we know if there's multiplayer again in this? Tried to do a few rounds in the first title but there were so few people I gave up on it.
Maybe they should think about some type of horde mode for this cause competitive multiplayer doesn't seem to be a thing for TR.

It would be much better if they had a proper game plus mode like Arkham games with tougher varied enemies, different tasks that take some skill etc. That would help with replayability. But a lot of those things probably depend on TR not being so on rails in the open areas.

I tried the multiplayer last time as well, it wasn't great, dust storm, die, respawn, lag, die, dust storm, XP, unlocks. No thanks. Not sure about the sequel, haven't heard anything yet but I'll avoid unless it gets good praise.

I'm pleasantly surprised with how good this looks. If a healthy amount of the game focuses on exploration/discovery, then I can already see it being better than the mediocre first installment.

The way she says 'canyon just ahead' in the 24th second seems so off. I dont know what is great about this facial animation. QB and UC look so much better right now.
It looks like the actress emoted too much for that particular line and they didn't tone it down. Reminded of the line "We can take these guys" from Infamous SS, where they're on the bridge. IIRC the last game had entirely keyframed facial animation, on characters that were supposed to look realistic, it hasn't aged well, especially the npcs. This is a major improvement and they very obviously put a lot of work into it.

Looks okay. Waiting on reviews and impressions before I decide to buy an X1.

Otherwise I'll buy it used a year later on PS4 to fill any gaps.

Walking slowly in a straight line, I've never done that before!

A new golden age of gaming is upon us.

Terrible demo but i can't say i'm surprised. It was exactly what i was expecting.Scripted platforming, forced walking,QTEs,constant talking and survivor instinct gimmicks. The only good thing was that they toned down the glowing ledges from the previous game.

in other words, video games

Isn't this like every adventure game ever?

Just a game. Talk about picking to pick.

its still a video game

I like how she climbs a mountain like it's nothing....vidya games

Its a game

One of the main reasons Crystal Dynamics said they wanted to make this Reboot was because they said they wanted to get as further away from what they called as "teflon Lara" from the old games. They said their goal was to make a realistic and believable character.
But the irony here is that the character they made has all the limitations a realistic looking,"serious" character can have while also being just as "teflon" as the old one.Which on its own makes the "reboot" pointless for anything other than just being an excuse to try and copy everything that is popular in cinematic games today.

Is it just me or the animation looks bad?

No it's not just you.Lara's running animations in the later part of the demo looked pretty bad.

I'm never going to be able to get behind these games until they do away with all the pomp and circumstance. We don't need to be reminded every instant with grunts and screams that she's pushing herself and/or in pain. Just makes it all so much more obviously fake.

She's REALLY overwritten and it's REALLY overdirected. Whenever we're playing a long, silent sequence of adventuring gameplay, i'm always hooked. The level design as a whole is pretty good.

That shit looks amazing. I can't wait to pick it up on PC. I also feel that her hair looks amazing, I don't see why people are hating.

Her hair is brilliantly animated - the problem is that it's affected by the movements of the car while the rest of hear head/body isnt. Leads to this absolutely horis effect where her cranium is stationary as all her hair flops all over it.

Wasn't really looking at getting this, but probably the best gameplay of this I've seen so far.

What a terrible situation to be in this fall with so many great games coming out! Going to be some tough decisions made, but will definitely have a good backlog of games to pick up in early 2016.

All this technology and your items still appear out of thin air. Lara is like Batman in this damn trailer. The camera literally pans over all her shit sitting in the back of the jeep, which then explodes, and you think, OH SNAP she's gonna be screwed without all her gear. But then the pick immediately appears in her hand when she needs it. The radio miraculously appears on her belt when the plot demands it. She pulls a glow stick literally out of her ass when the tunnel gets dark.

All while her hair looks like it's stuck in a perpetual slow-motion Loreal commercial.

Still want.

Trying too hard to ape Uncharted's style, except in this game you got a double whammy of awful acting and awful writing.

If you can't get something better, at least work with what you got. Select multiple voice recordings and hit dat delete button.

Very liberal use of "exploration" there.
The amount of guidance, one corridor level design, and constant shit happening on screen, you'd think their target demographic was 3 year olds, as far as attention span goes.
Though even Dora the Explorer has more faith in their audience than this.

He joined the others in that other thread that were making fun of all the violence and lack of Tomb Raiding "What happened to Tomb Raider? RIP".

Well the game got more mileage from me thanks to having collectibles and stuff to uncover around the different areas. I usually don't go for them in games but strangely felt compelled to found every little secret the game had.

But yeah I agree with you, they should think about something else and changing the formula or else it will get stale.

Lol, I'm expecing the next headline from Kotaku about some game to be : Everything was fucking.

looks decent.
any one think with all the time they have until the ps4 version is released that they have it at 60fps? or hell even unlocked up to 60fps like the ps4 version of the first reboot.

I clicked a random part of the video and have to say it looks so much like Uncharted 4 it's crazy. Go to 6:22 in the video (that's where I clicked) and watch her traverse the area. If Drake was the character instead of Lara i'd say it's UC4. Not sure if this is good or bad.
