Rise of the Tomb Raider Syria Demo

I clicked a random part of the video and have to say it looks so much like Uncharted 4 it's crazy. Go to 6:22 in the video (that's where I clicked) and watch her traverse the area. If Drake was the character instead of Lara i'd say it's UC4. Not sure if this is good or bad.

I thought the environment looks very Uncharted 3ish.

Trying too hard to ape Uncharted's style, except in this game you got a double whammy of awful acting and awful writing.

If you can't get something better, at least work with what you got. Select multiple voice recordings and hit dat delete button.

Word.

Made all the worse by the fact that the gameplay design is solid - if still too Uncharted-like broadly

I'm never going to be able to get behind these games until they do away with all the pomp and circumstance. We don't need to be reminded every instant with grunts and screams that she's pushing herself and/or in pain. Just makes it all so much more obviously fake.
She's REALLY overwritten and it's REALLY overdirected.
I think it's great, i love all the grunting and gruesome deaths

Looks fantastic, not surprising since 2013 was also fantastic. There you have it, Tombs to explore and seem a lot bigger than the optional ones from the first one.

There's a bit of terrain pop-in at the start but the low sandy low contrast and video compression cover it up well.

It looks like the actress emoted too much for that particular line and they didn't tone it down. Reminded of the line "We can take these guys" from Infamous SS, where they're on the bridge. IIRC the last game had entirely keyframed facial animation, on characters that were supposed to look realistic, it hasn't aged well, especially the npcs. This is a major improvement and they very obviously put a lot of work into it.

That looks better than the facial animation in Quantum Break.

Graphically amazing, no doubt. But I want to see some open gameplay now, everything we're seeing consists of gameplay-cutscene-gameplay-cutscene-gameplay-cutscene-cutscene-cutscene, all in 10 minutes! I know they're trying to make it dramatic but still. I hope this and the other stuff we've seen is not representitive of the full game. Nice to get bits and pieces like that, but some full on exploring and gunplay would be nice.

Damn this is easily the best footage so far and finally gives a glimpse of some actual tomb raiding.

I kind of wish I hadn't watched it though as it seems somewhat spoilerish.

Yup, looks like (new) Tomb Raider all right.

Why don't they give her a backpack? It'd be a nice throwback, & would actually make sense in this game, given she's going out prepared for adventuring. I guess it might cause clipping with those lovely hair physics though.

Anyone else think Lara was more attractive here?

She looked more generic. ROTTR Lara looks better, IMO. I think they pretty much nailed it. You also see that ROTTR Lara's face looks a bit more like the actress who plays her, which contributes to her face seeming more authentic and more like a real person.

Looks awesome. Can't wait to get started with it, I just wish there was a gap between this and Fallout 4 - but too many fun games to play isn't really a bad thing.

Bullshot, bullshot, bullshot. Probably PC footage but still poor.
Pretty sure this is xb1 footage, but i'm sure the devs would consider it a compliment that you think it's fake, (nothing here looks out of the realm of possibility for xb1).
That looks better than the facial animation in Quantum Break.
It looks as good. The devs of both games did a splendid job at capturing the performance of the actors. We really haven't seen any footage of a conversation in QB, just reactions to the current predicament. They're using MOVA.

Great footage, looks so good. I'm actually gonna get a this before I get Fallout. Saving that for the end of the year otherwise I wouldn't play anything else.

It's really weird that some people think what's shown here isn't within the realm of possibility of the Xbox One.

I mean, I know that the PS4 is more powerful etc. etc. but I played through Arkham Knight, Sunset Overdrive, and many other stunning-looking games on my Xbone and they all look incredible (if just more aliased because of the lower resolution). Forza Horizon 2, Wolfenstein The New Order, CoD Advanced Warfare, and many others are also seriously impressive.

I feel like some people think the Xbox One is like a last-generation system or something, while in truth it's capable of pretty much everything the PS4 is just at a lower resolution.

But I'm just a MS employee shill so carry on I guess?

The way she says 'canyon just ahead' in the 24th second seems so off. I dont know what is great about this facial animation. QB and UC look so much better right now.

Is it me or is the VA in the opening cutscene particularly awful? Game is gorgeous tho.
Oh good other people else noticed it. The facial animation looked really weird to me. Like she was really trying extra hard to pronounce the words.

Running animation looked a bit off too. Otherwise though, footage was certainly more intriguing than other stuff I've seen.

Definitely looks like a tomb raider game. I think my only issue is the graphics. Watching this on the S6 is obviously no issue but the graphics were muted to me. I don't know, there was these low res areas and I know it wasn't because a drop in quality from the network. It just wasn't like WOW! to me.

However it still looks good. I'm just, idk... Trying to figure out here what was done in part that the Xbox One allowed them to focus on? So far, for both trailers, I have yet to see this sacrifice or this time that MS helped them achieve that made them build the game the way they wanted too. It looks just like the true sequel to the original title which looks like it could have been done multiplat.

I'll stop here. I still like what I see and can't wait to play it :D

Game looks gorgeous and I'm so looking forward to pick it up next year. The hair simulation looks out of place though but I think that tech generally has a long way to go, be it TressFX or Hairworks (which looks amazing on some Witcher 3 monsters for example, but looks meh for human hair imo, just as TressFX).

I really enjoyed the setting and atmosphere. But they need to tone down the pseudo-gameplay moments where Lara walks down a narrow pathway and falls down and barely survives. It's gotten old. Very old. Less cinema, more adventure and exploration, please.

Except its not. Uncharted 4 looks to have had tremendous focus on its gameplay and level design compared to its predecessors. Both set pieces and moment to moment combat offers plenty of combat options, verticality and sandbox arenas. This TR is focused more on Lara moaning every 2-3 minutes for some reason with QTE fights. The gameplay looks subpar. The other demo seemed encouraging but if I have to put up with these kind of poorly designed set pieces and QTE's and lara moans every few minutes to get to the sandbox stuff then it is a shame.

Someone should tell CD that they dont know how to design set pieces so they should stop trying.

This.

The TR reboot was absolutely awful with the constant moaning and shit happening to Lara every 3 steps - at the end of the game I felt like every single bone in her body should've been broken. She was thrown around like a lifeless puppet, the game was meant to show her as an inexperienced and quite fragile, but turned her into a killing machine that puts Rambo to shame. The survival aspect of the game was superficial at best, served more as a storyline background, than actual gameplay element. All in all it was a decent enough (6/10) game, but I didn't get why it received such a praise at all.

What I've seen so far doesn't look optimistic in the slightest with Lara pulling ridiculous double headshots with her bow, the same moaning fest, forced experience system and pseudo-puzzles with highlighted objects meant for halfwits. Uncharted 4 looks way more focused on what it is and does it way better than the new Tomb Raiders.

The character is obviously trying to emote but it just looks odd, a combination of the eyes and improper lip sync that make Lara look more mannequin than human.

They should make it so that there are more than one way to solve a puzzle, right now it's way too straight forward.

Well the setting looked awesome but hopefully you can actually explore it. It looked overall completely linear there. And did they seriously have to light up the fucking wall at the 8:56 mark? Come on.

This is the best the game has looked. I love environments like this in games when the sun is beaming. The lighting usually always looks really good, just like in this.

The animation still doesn't look good to me. It's not smooth or natural at all. Her constant talking is fine (I hate silent protags, for the most part), but the grunting, yelling, moaning and whatnot seem far too exaggerated.

Edit: The water looks really terrible too. It only looked good in the cutscene at the end.

Game is looking and will end up being good. I really wish they stopped doing set pieces though, they're not memorable nor good. I always get the feeling of .. uhh another set piece in the last game and in Uncharted it's usually holy shit things are getting more interesting. Stick to your strengths. I'd also like less focus on action and more focus on stealth. That segment that she walks through the snow that has some nice stealth looked delicious for example. Add more puzzles, and make them more intracate

+ more focus on puzzles, work on design
+ more focus on stealth
+ Make characters people I give a single shit about
- less set pieces, you're not good at them
- Less Drake/Rambo shoot fest, make it feel like a different game

This would make an epic sequel for me.

There's absolutely nothing improper about the lip sync. If they were to release footage of the actor's performance for this part all of the movement would likely be one to one.
