Rise of the Tomb Raider Syria Demo

I was so sure they'll get banned for that comment, the last thing I expected was a mod having sense of humor about it lol.

It's amazing how many people loved pushing forward on their sticks and pressing A with no sense of player agency in the first game. It's surprising so many people were even looking forward to this.

So much salt and concern trolling in this thread.

The only one here who is salty is you. If criticism hurts you so much you should avoid threads in GAF.

Thing is, they needed around 4M+ people pushing forward and pressing A to get even in the last game, by Eidos own admission. Did that many people love pushing forward and pressing A enough to pay 60 € for the privilege of doing it again? I doubt it. I hope not. This reboot is terrible and it deserves to die. Here, have some more salt.

Yes, let's go back to this:

this is so much better and really puts the nail in the coffin that the new tomb raider is laughable.

THIS puzzle looks really hard though... damn son, are those steps?

What is your point, a newer game has better graphics? Because that is all it has better.

Looks like someone is going to be bummed when this does well enough to get a third game.

I can live with changeable outfits. I think the immersion killer for me so far is the XP notifications :P

For me it's that HUGE loading/saving spinning TR icon in the lower right corner. Every time it pops up (literally every few seconds) my eyes jump down there. I hope to god they make it smaller (like in the middle part of the video... preferably even smaller). GTA5 did it right.

Literally all that "gameplay" consisted of going down a linear path occasionally pressing a button while the game transitioned from cutscene to cutscene. Ah yes and lets not forget the HEY LOOK STUFF IS FALLING AROUND AND UNDER YOU cliche being done to death again. Also random XP popping up for no real reason just to give the player a false sense of accomplishment. You walked forward after the cutscene ended. Here's some XP! Not impressed.

Are you really trying to use graphical fidelity in a discussion about gameplay focus? Funny thing is all those areas you've showed actually do have more complex puzzle design and/or traps than anything in the reboot.

LOL at all the salt.
I need some more fries for all the threads i see salt in.

I dunno about that. A lot of it is legitimate criticism because many were hoping that this installment would stray away more from Uncharted focus on the things that made Tomb Raider 2013 enjoyable (but Uncharted doesn't have the QTE's in cut scenes). I'm actually playing the PC version of it and I see why people everyone enjoys the gameplay a lot. The exploration is a nice addition as well (I always try to check everything on the island).

If they focus on nailing down the voice acting, story, and dialogue, I'm sure the game would be more memorable. On the gameplay side of things, it would benefit them to never have QTE's used in the way that I've seen in TR 2013 so far. I hate how random they have come up too, lol. There's been no good use of them in those action cutscenes. Truly terrible, lol. I don't mind button prompts for opening up doors/loot though. Don't know what CD is doing for this game, but borrowing a bunch of the survival elements from TLoU would make for a potentially brilliant game.

Wait...what are these card packs?
The Holy Fire: Causes enemies killed with melee to burst into flames, damaging and igniting other enemies nearby.

Juggernaut: Gives Lara additional armor with each kill for a limited time

Master Hunter: Lara deals double damage on animals and yields double the resources when hunting

Bullet Resistance: Gives Lara extra damage resistance to gunfire

It's not that. Having played Osiris, you have to wonder why they didn't bring in the team to made those puzzles. They would have made great intermission between the shooting/gruesome executions.

With all that said, this game looks very impressive. I think this and Scalebound make the best case for Xbox One graphically.

Huh, I hadn't heard of them before either.

It sounds like cheat codes/unlockable variants?

Are they multiplayer based or do you think they are in the single player?

The Holy Fire card which causes enemies killed with melee to burst into flames, damaging and igniting other enemies nearby.

Juggernaut foil card, which gives Lara additional armor with each kill for a limited time

Master Hunter foil card, which deals double damage on animals and yields double the resources when hunting

Bullet Resistance foil card, which gives Lara extra damage resistance to gunfire

Haha, I can read. I am just wondering what place they have in the overall game.

When did GAF get so negative? Yeah, opinions and all, but some folks just seem to crap on everything. I jumped around the trailer just to see what was what, and I thought it looked really good. The original isn't perfect (the story and acting in particular won't win any awards), but it was still a lot of fun and was one of the few games I 100%'d last year. Definitely looking forward to this one.

Oooooh, OK

In Rise of the Tomb Raider you’ll earn cards by completing specific challenges, or discover them in hidden pockets of the environment. Once activated in extra game modes, these cards become modifiers, letting you customize your play experience in a wide variety of ways.

Some cards are a bit cheeky, some increase difficultly, and some give you special advantages. Some cards can be used more than once, while some cards are consumable and must be earned again. These cards will offer hundreds of ways to customize your Rise of the Tomb Raider experience and rank higher on the global leaderboards (LOL)

We still haven't heard if multiplayer is even in the game, so I have to assume these cards will be unlockable single player "cheat codes", maybe?

That would be kinda cool.

Incredible looking level design, really nice change of pace from everything in the first game and what's been shown so far.

The game itself looks average at best but I'll probably get it on sale for a weekend distraction, why not?

Also, she looks like YET another different woman, again. They really need to pick an actual face and hairstyle for her and just keep it.

I'd say the level design of this demo is about as bad as you can get. You move down a straight path with zero deviation, with zero skill required to maneuver through the environment as it crumbles and explodes around you. It's the very definition of being flashy yet has no substance at all.

six minutes in: this is one looong cut scene.

If you have played Uncharted or Tomb Raider you would know theyre very cinematic games. Both of which offers great gameplay. There is many cinimatic games, but these two are the most similar. QTE, walking around talking to self, platforming, shooting, linear, etc

Though i do sense a lot of comments are being pushed with a console agenda, Uncharted and Tomb Raider is generally very well liked games though for a reason. Yes they may show off scripted trailers as they tend to be good show pieces, but they also are fun games.

Comparing a game they have played vs one they have not.
it's okay i expect this amount of defense for someone shitting on a new game with MS's inclusion. lol

got played son

Oh you are a fanboy with a persecution complex. Thank you for making it clear.

UC4 demo's focus on player agency. This does not.

'Extra game modes?' I wonder if these are like the AR challenges in Batman.

So basically like skulls in Halo?

They bootlegged Uncharted so hard, it's rather embarrassing that's nowhere near as charming as their "inspiration". It's like they did a find-and-replace one all the witty writing, and replaced it with "edgy"
, then they did a find-and-replace on all gameplay, and replaced with 'cinematic'...

Oh your just shitposting. Carry on then.

This also applies to the comment above me.

not shitposting, just calling out someone who is comparing outdated game-mechanics and want it in something new. So this is how it should be according to tombraider3; "let me look at the ceiling so i dont bump my head when i jump and fail to reach the ledge. that's so rewarding and should be the norm for this new 'tomb' which is laughable. " did i get that right? Sounds really ridiculous to me.

that's all their is to it. people making a big fuss over it. lol

No just stating the obvious in every thread that includes an ms title. i guess im a fanboy for calling people out? awesome. next ill be called a apologist. lol

You are a joke. Not even a funny one, either.

We have seen gameplay of Lara in stealth gameplay, shooting etc

What Uncharted and Tomb Raider both does is very linear, scripted, QTE, platforms breaking, barely grabbing the ledge etc Its been done for years. Honestly if youre to criticize Tomb Raider for it, then youre doing the same to Uncharted because it does every one of those things excessively.

Theyre cinimatic action oriented games with gunplay and platforming thrown in

This doesn't represent the entire game though...

Have you played TR 2013?

Do you know how many people I've seen get banned for exactly the same thing that you're doing right now? Please cut the persecution complex shit out and stop being close minded. I've seen games for all consoles get criticized whether genuine criticism or not.

Uncharted does it way better in my opinion. I don't see why every one is so disappointed in this right now, after the last Tomb Raider. They showed off set pieces when demoing that game and it turned out that it was more open then most people thought.

I've kinda made peace with the fact that this new version of Tomb Raider won't be like the old ones. It's a bit of a bummer but I still had fun with the reboot and I'll probably enjoy this as well. Can't wait for November.

Have you played TR 2013?

Tomb Raider 2013 was amazing and is echoed throughout the industry. Personally i thought the gameplay was better in Tomb Raider 2013 than Uncharted(both good though), but the stories were very different so depending on what you like more. Tomb Raider which is a dark story or Uncharted which is a lighthearted story.

I expect Rise of the Tomb Raider to be just as good as the original.

As i said, i expect a lot of it is pushed with an agenda of platform. If it wasnt timed exclusive i doubt you would get the same responses in all honesty.

Regardless both Uncharted and Tomb Raider was excellent last generation and i do expect that will continue into this generation. Which one you like more, i could understand you saying either or. Both amazing games no doubt about it.
