Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Slow your roll. This is a pre-order bonus. Nobody said you wouldn't be able to buy these on an Xbox One at some point. We've never done that before and we don't intend to start now. For launch though, these are bonus songs for PlayStation Plus members who pre-order.

Still a huge bummer play station players get them for free.

So, songs exclusive to Amazon pre-orders (although not in the UK, it seems), songs exclusive other retailers with 30 tracks, old but still some RBN tracks in there which won't appear at launch otherwise, songs exclusive to pre-order on the PS4 digitally and potentially songs exclusive for pre-orders for the Xbox One as well.

It's a bit of a clusterfuck, but I suppose we can grateful that it's coming out on all platforms at least. Eventually. Because I need The Reflex. Cowboys from Hell is nice too, I guess, although if it's the version I think it is I can at least play some kind of version in the Greatest Hits GH game.

Also, what's the word on the 4 Amazon songs in the UK? Alabama Shakes, etc. Amazon UK makes no note of them and the only place that even seems to have a pre-order bonus from the usual places I check is Game, and that only has the 30 legacy tracks.

We've only announce a digital pre-order for PlayStation 4. Right now.

I hope Xbox One preorders get exclusive songs too then, because this punishes loyal Rock Band players from Xbox 360 because it'd be absurd to switch to PS4 since we can't get our 360 DLC songs back on PS4.

I have no choice but to get RB4 on Xbox One, why should I lose out on songs because of that? :(

gah the playstation exclusives have some songs i would kill for... All that remains, bring me the horizon, of mice and men! Sad day for my xbox one :(

I kind of understand the logistics - the PS3 dongle is still suitable for instrument compatability on PS4, and a similar thing needs to be created for XB1 but from the ground up - but the radio silence on the progress on that front so close to release gives me a bad vibe.

The timed exclusive for PS4 sucks as well, I think 360 had a much larger player base. Let's hope the XB1 gets its own timed preorder exclusive too, and that somewhere down the road there's parity between the different preorder bonuses.

So I have to get it digitally to get those songs?

LAME.

Yeah, kinda crazy that PS4 owners who are members of PS+ can't get these bonus songs unless they already own all the instruments. Digital preorder deals for a game that requires peripherals that haven't been announced to be ever sold separately, lame.

Can we get some Lana Del Rey in our Rockband and Guitar Heros please? I feel Ultraviolence is full of amazing options. I can just imagine rocking out to Cruel World :D

is there a way to vote for what tracks we want?

Ugh.

I'm close to just saying fuck it and giving up my last bit of hope for this game, my disappointment in this game is starting to impact my enjoyment of 3.

I wanted RB4, but not like this.

Always hate to see DLC tied to specific preorders, but as long as they end up available for everybody (relatively soon, preferably), it's not as bad, I guess. I do have to wonder what, if any, preorder "incentives" will be available for the Xbox One digital version. You'd still have to buy the dongle at the very least with that version for it to all work.

Yeah, the worst practices all round are being employed by Harmonix - just how they screwed Europe over with the launch of both RB 1 and 2. I'm not even going to be tempted to pick up the game now, as this sets a precedent I will not support.

30 songs - pre order a physical copy at any retailer.

4 "amazon" songs - pre order at amazon (US only(

10 "ps plus songs" - pre order from Playstation Store (PS+ account only, US only)

I understand you're just doing your job and this is a part of marketing. No worries, I preorder the band bundle so I'd miss out on an Xbox digital order too.

Honestly, part of it is that getting all of the ducks in a row to execute on these things takes time. I can't/won't say anything about something that I don't really have a firm answer on, because things can change up until the last minute. If we're not talking about something, it's not because we're trying to be deceptive or pushing a marketing angle, but we just don't have enough information to pass along. It's coming and coming in fast. Appreciate those who are being patient/understanding, but totally get the anxiety over some stuff. All I can say is that we're working really hard towards getting everything into place for everyone.

kind of sad with this deal ... as a xbox one player i hope they at least make this songs "buyable. Really looking foward any Pantera or BMTH

I understand the move, and it wasn't long that the RB3 pre-order pack hit on the marketplace, but yeah, a lot of this screams "rushing to get things out and done"

It just seems like a launch like this post-EA/RB3 is a lot harder to pull off, and i'm worried the bad PR building is gonna pretty much kill things before they get started again. Though i do disagree with certain things, i get some of them are out of HMX's hand too.

Can you explain what you mean by "rushing to get things out and done" means in relation to the pre-orders? Not sure I get that part and I'm trying to understand.

30 songs - pre order a physical copy at any retailer.

Has this been confirmed? I can't find it on any retailer page besides Gamestop and Amazon.

Is there a nice chart anywhere that lists which store preorders get which which songs yet? I'm sad this actually has to be a thing.

No chart, but just throwing this together... (This is for the U.S. If I missed anything, let me know.)

Preorder songs have only ever been extremely short lived 'exclusives' in RB. They'll probably be on sale for the general public at the same exact time on both PS4 and One outside of the preorder.

The only time a platform has missed out on official Harmonix DLC was 2112 as one song for the Wii, since the console didn't have the ability to load the entire song at once.

Can you explain what you mean by "rushing to get things out and done" means in relation to the pre-orders? Not sure I get that part and I'm trying to understand.

Honestly, I feel that way about the game itself, so many things I'd consider vital to my RB experience (online play, e drum support etc) missing means I won't be buying the game, at this point, the only thing I'm really impressed with in RB4 is a Rock Band 3 hack (which, I'm not knocking, I totally love that you guys made the Harmonies Project part of the game)

It just feels a bit off when these vital features to me are missing and at the sane time, work on stuff like pre order bonuses etc is been taking, I've decided I'm gonna step away from the series soon (decided I'm gonna finish up my 100%s first) for the first time since RB1 came out in Europe.

Don't get me wrong, I love you guys and have since games like Frequency, Amplitude etc and the first GH game on PS2, I'll probably still be part of the RB community etc and always will be, I hope this game turns out to be a success so I can get the game I want in a few months, even if that's through patches etc or new hardware

Just for reference, back when Rock Band 3 was releasing, Gamestop had a pack of 3 songs "exclusive" in the same vein as the Amazon pack or PSN pack here. Rock Band 3 released October 26th, 2010 in the U.S. and those songs were released for general public on November 10th, 2010, two weeks and 1 day later.

So yes, these songs will be available for everyone relatively soon after the game's release.

Fuck this deal, seriously. So many of the songs in this are what I wanted to see in RB4 and because I'm on XB1 I'm losing out. I hate this trend of timed platform exclusive DLC.

I hate platform/retailer exclusive DLC too, so lame. Hopefully it will at least be available as regular DLC shortly after launch...

EDIT: Glad to hear that seems to be the case!

I tried to quell the nastiness in the twitter comments but it is out of control. Why would anyone think that some official HMX DLC would be locked to one platform forever? That's never happened (besides 2112 on Wii due to song length).

I'm going to get the guitar bundle on Amazon but I'd much rather have the game digitally...
Maybe I'll try to coordinate with someone so I can sell the physical copy.

even if its not locked to one platform forever...xbox would probably still have to pay for it, while playstation can get it for free. And that is fucked up. But as hinted at earlier, xbox may get some preorder songs as well...so it will be equally fucked up for both platforms

Good to hear man, I hope you guys have some positive news on instrument backwards compatibility for X1. I can't wait for the game, but not being able to use my ion drumkit would be a huge bummer. It would suck to have to shell out an extra $100 bucks or so to use an inferior kit.

I'm definitely not understanding this but I really hope this isn't along the lines of gripes I used to see when MMO patch notes came out where people would essentially complain that modelers weren't fixing game combat code.

Was thinking about preordering digital til i looked at used instrument prices on amazon. lots of cheap guitars and zero that include the dongle, no cheap drums at all.

The worst that I can recall was "All You Need Is Love" from Rock Band Beatles, Xbox 360 exclusive, came out for PS3 and Wii 6 months later

As it stands now, I think I'd rather just wait to get an Xbone slim and use backwards compatibility to play RB3 and its DLC with the keytar.

No keytar in RB4 means I have no real desire to get it, and no cross-platform DLC import means I don't even own the system I need to utilize RB4 if I were to get it.

Add me to the chorus of people bummed about platform exclusive pre-order DLC on top of retailer exclusive pre-order DLC.

I'm hoping whatever deal is going on for those expires shorty after the game is live. I don't mind paying for them (Cowboys from Hell will be mine.)
