Jets QB Geno Smith out 6-10 weeks with broken jaw, "sucker-punched" by teammate

Fitzpatrick's is not good, but he's not any worse than Geno Smith, maybe he has more short term hope. His best years were 3 - 5 years ago and a lot has changed in that time.

For the Jets to go 10 - 6, they'd have to basically win every game that they "should" win and then also win every game that's a toss up.

It's tough to argue that they'll beat Dallas, New England, Indy, and Philly. I could see them spitting New England, but it's not really probable. They could beat those teams, but it's tough to argue. FOr them to go 10 - 6, they have to beat every team they "should" beat... Cleveland, Washington, Oakland, Jacksonville, Houston, NY Giants, and Tennessee. They'd have to split or sweep either New England, Miami, or the Bills, while still beating every team they "should" beat. I think that's a tough proposition, though not impossible, just not very probable.

While this is not the way Jet fans wanted this to happen but the result (Geno Smith not playing) is probably the best thing Jet fans have heard in years.

Feel bad for Geno but this is fantastic news for Jet fans. Now their coach can't make the mistake of starting Geno.

Doubt Mike Vick will be welcome back to the Jets. He was worse than Geno last year and was no good for the organization.

Fitzpatrick is fucking garbage. He's the worst back-up to have. Because he's horrible, but not horrible enough to make you truly suck and get a good draft pick out of it.

He was okay with the Texans last year, no? 17 tds, 8 ints, 63% completion percentage.

Fitz always has good stats. But you have to look at the stats in context.

Take away the Tennessee game which was a complete and total aberration and he has a QBR lower than 85 and an 11-8 TD/INT ratio. His YPA is garbage, he doesn't throw a good long ball at all because he has no arm, he's not overly accurate or poised in the pocket, he can run but he's not mobile.

He's a bad QB.

Agreed, but they don't have much in the way of options. It's not like Geno was predicted to take this team anywhere anyway so the falloff from Geno to Fitz shouldn't be too dramatic. heck, it might be an improvement.
 
Smith is the worst starting QB in the NFL, yeah it's funny he was injured after getting his ass kicked by his (now ex) teammate but overall this probably increases the Jets' chances of being competitive this season.
 
Sounds like Geno needs to keep his mouth shut. The guy who punched him sounded like a mild mannered guy. Also he was punched by a Titans player sometime last season.

Jets don't wanna be competitive this season. If you're gonna be bad or average, just suck. Get a new QB. Don't just be average.

Nothing good comes from being average.

Here's an idea of how bad the Jets QBs have been. Even if you take that game away Fitz will still be the best QB the Jets have had in the last 10 years.

I'd take Farve with his spaghetti shoulder, Pennington, and 09'-10' Sanchez over him.

Chad Pennington was a GREAT QB. Just destroyed by injuries.

IK is clearly, clearly at fault here if this is true. Has nothing to do with the locker room or respect or anything just a man acting like a child over 0.01% of his total salary this year that he just gave up to sucker punch a man.

Let's not be naive here now. All you people saying that he threw away his career, this is the NFL where people who have been arrested multiple times have made teams. If he's good enough he'll be on a team this season.
 
IK could have lasted a couple more years then get a job being an asst. Coach in college or the NFL, and work himself up the ladder. Any job assoicated with Football is gone now.
