Fighting Games Weekly |8/10-16| Gods(Beard) Among Us

Arguing is awesome because it lets people get stuff out they normally keep hidden. It exposes what each side is thinking down to a raw emotional level. Lot's of misunderstandings get cleared up from arguments.

You can't change someone's feelings towards something but you can make it clear how they feel about said things.

Or things can descend into ironic shittery while only one side gets heated.

Q and Beckx got it right. Argue for yourself, an argument is just a challenge of your beliefs. Its on you to defend your stance with understanding and sound reasoning. Its not on youn to convince anyone else, you can't make someone think the way you want them to think.

Religions tried for millennia, and some of the worst shit in history happened because some people were convinced that some other people thought wrong.

The problem with this stance is when the people who are arguing with you are arguing in bad faith from the jump. That's a position where you can't win at all, since they can just follow up their crap with more crap just for the purpose of wearing you down.

I'm real bad at dealing with people who assert they are right though, I don't know how to respond other than "this is probably the correct way to look at it."
I'm going to assume part of this was from the conversation with Errol on UNIEL subforums.
Ooh, we should play VF. Maybe I should even try learning Darkstalkers (and I'm about to get assaulted by a wild Rotanibor), but I think it would just body my old man hands.

Well, I'm only learning from VF4Evo right now. Don't have access or money to 5 right now. Not even sure how far I'll take to learning it. At the moment, it's more for understanding a new fighter and seeing if I can pick up new skills from it.

Team Liquid (knuckle Du, Hungry box, etc.) Will sign Smash 4 player Nairo. He finished 3rd this year at EVO.

This is actually a nice surprise. Good to see Smash 4 doing well.

Are we talking about public arguments or private ones?

Extreme Butoden feels like a stricly 2D, more traditional Budokai game with assists. Is fun, but no online (or even download play) really bums me out. is fun, but not enough to drop money for it. And the super slowdowns when doing specials is really, really annoying.

Both it seems like.

But for public arguments like forums you need to argue on the meta level of not convincing your opponent but rather destroying their stance in front of the audience and making their opinion/argument seem unfavorable.

Well that is if your goal is to "kill a bad idea".

Like for instance I would argue that everyone should be playing bb, gg, or uniel.

Bb for thinking

Gg for fuck it I'll do what I want game play

And uniel for extreame tug of war action.

and persona if you like persona

Why doesn't everyone just play everything? I try to at least. You can learn things that can translate to every fighting game. Not everything translates but every fighting game has something to teach.

Well yeah this is sorta what I do. I'll play everything for at least a month

Never. While I don't like SF4, I try to never scoff whenever somebody asks me to play a game that I don't like.

It's tantamount to folks saying shit like "lol [insert non capcom fighter here]" whenever folks in their scene ask them to play something that's not SF4. I just say "It's not my game" and leave it at that.
I do that because that same person does that when I play my game and then expects me to go over to their side, it's hypocrisy .

Exactly. Destroy the bad idea infront of your peers therefore the person who argues the bad ideas is ignored and is socially dealt with.

They have the delusion that if they only do 1 game they can get competitive. I think far too many times people neglect the connections in your brain that diversify when playing many different games. Also I think SF4 being math up fighter has really fucked some people.

I learn very fast, and typically get 1k matches in

Even so, for a new fighter, nobody even knows how to play the game for like the first year or so. If you only played the first month and didn't touch the game again afterwards, can you really count it?
I know this sounds dumb

I play arc sys games those are like a year old by the time I play them.

And in general yeah shit changes but I can still get a good feel for the way the games are.

The arcsys stuff makes sense, but when I go back and watch old marvel or sf4 footage or something, it's ridiculous-looking, haha.

That type of stuff just wears me down tbh. Like, I should've just let him have his thing, I mean others even pointed out the absurdity of it lol. I'm dumb for engaging, I've been trying not to engage as much lately. GAF and in private are the main places I talk about FGs these days.
