RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 is available now on iOS

ios was always better for gaming anyway.
less models easier to make it run better
it is as simple as that.

for emulating? that's an whole other story :P

Loads of great-looking 3D games run very well on my Nexus 5. Some people make the effort, some don't.

The real surprise here is how did Frontier manage to get the name and game rights.

They made an agreement in 2013 to have the rights of RCT3 and the name RollerCoaster Tycoon 3.
Its probably when Atari was desperate because it was going under and needed money fast, seems they arent making a cent from the sales of RCT3 on steam, gog and itunes appstore lol

They dont have the rights to the RollerCoaster Tycoon series though, thats still part of zombiatari.

it says what it will and won't work with:

Compatibility: Requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 3 Wi-Fi + Cellular, and iPod touch (6th generation). This app is optimized for iPhone 5s.

At this point, that argument is nonsense. From my understanding, Android will scale whatever the crap you throw at it, assuming you target Android 4.1 and upwards. Plus there's very few SoC's at this point: Tegra, Snapdragon and Exynos.

Pirated downloads isn't the same as a lost sale. Arguably, those people would have never purchased the game to begin with.

That's like saying "we shouldn't put our game on Steam because it'll be pirated on PC."

Don't remember the website but they did a benchmark from some game. and the iphone 6 was the most stable in running it. And we all now that the specs of the 6 are not near android flagships.

Anyone try this on iPad Mini 2 yet?

Definitely checking this out, but I've never played this kind of sim/builder game. Well, I've played Prison Architect, but that's about it. What makes RCT3 good, challenging, etc.?

I've not played the PC version in about 7 years, but from the short time I've played, it seems a pretty solid port. Lots of ride customisation, entrance/exit, colours/types, music choices, you can't add your own from what I can see. Lots of in depth data and what not on rides, stalls, shops etc.

I only have 5 rides and a few stalls and shops but it's running beautifully on my 6 plus. You can zoom in to each individual customer and then waaaay out to view your entire Park, no half arsed zoom like some games use. You can of course take a ride on any of your attractions.

Like I said, Ive not played the PC version for 7 years, possibly more, but it seems to have a lot more customisations than I can remember. Really impressed so far.

if i remember you could walk in fps mode in your park how ?

Yet another game that won't run on iPad 3, I wish they'd hurry up and announce new iPads, I'm not buying mid generation

yeah that is kinda sad oh well i had fun with my ipad 3
but it was no better than the 2 tbh

I'm curious, why does this game get a number of hates? I'm a big fan of RCT2 but is it justifiable to buy this version, especially on my Mac Steam?

Game seems to work lovely and smoothly on my ipad air 2. Yeah the graphics are pretty basic, but I'm still impressed with the amount of stuff happening on screen. The controls can be a bit slow and fiddly at first, but I soon got used to them after about half an hour. It's really baffling to me though that you can't just simply drag your finger over the screen to lay down a path.

Oh man. 6 user here, and it's freaking glorious. Just as time consuming as I remember RCT1&2. This is my first time playing 3. This is what I expected when the last RCT mobile came out...

Game runs great, plays great, and is just as awesome as you remember. Buy it.

Some questions for people who have the game (even better if you played a lot of the original):

-Its terraforming still possible? I dont mean only the square versions, but also the "realistic" one the original had to create mountains and valleys? And what about water, can you create lakes and go underneath the water with the cam?

-how does making an advance building work, one with tall walls and roofs?

-Its there any of the needed updates the expansions brought (but you didnt need to buy the expansions as they were given for free with patch updates). I mean things like undeground tunnels and waterfalls.

-Does the game only have the vanilla themes? What about the rides, any rides from the expansions?

-Can you still create firework shows with the complex firework studio the game had?

- (one of the most important) Have they change the peep AI to be more simple like in RCT1 and 2. The problem of RCT3 is that they tried a too advanced AI for the time that made groups of peeps (families for example) to have too much weight in the way the AI thought. Thats what made the queues so empty sometimes for example, because you needed to atend the needs of the whole group before they go on rides. The fixed some of this (but not all) with some patches along the way.
If tyey made a simpler AI for the mobile versions that would mean it would be better to people that only liked RCT1 and RCT2. The best thing about RCT3 was sandbox mode, and that was thanks to the incredible expansions and mods that were released. The strenghts of the mobile version need to lie in other aspects (the single player campaign) as it doesnt have the help of expansions and mods.

Boooo-bastarding-urns!

Years I wait for a proper RCT game on iOS, and it won't work on either my iPad 2 OR iPhone 5c! Not happy, not happy at all.

Some secs really optimise their code to support other, older devices, but I'm not sure Frontier will... Gutted, as that is one of my all time favourite genres. :(

Downloading to my Air 2 now - this might be a terribly unproductive day.

Edit: the tutorial "mode" is just links to youtube videos. Lol.

Runs and plays awesome on the iPad Air 2. Concur with previous poster that it chews through the battery. Definitely worth the 4.99.

You can drag your finger along the screen when laying, or editing patrol areas for staff members. You can't do it for creating footpaths though, which is odd.

An update is already live for the app fixing "minor bugs". Good to know that Frontier is keeping an eye on it and I hope we'll see the expansions on iOS!

I think what used the mouse for hold and select (staffing areas) transferred over, and that which wasn't originally designed for a mouse (pathway creation) didn't.

It's quite clearly a port but it's a pretty decent port of a great game, and that's plenty good enough for me.

After about two hours at full speed time it was a little choppy on my Air 2 when zoomed in trying to create pathways and stuff but it didn't crash until I tried to quit back to title.
